Sorry for the double post, but this. It's bizarre that so many people just assume California is this ultra blue, crazy socialistic idiots that just do Yoga and want world peace and to save the poor. There's HUGE corporations running out of here including one of the BIGGEST (Disney). CARPETED with rich folks for literally miles and miles. The idea that we're "True Blue For Always" is a FALLACY. GA turned Blue, we could easily end up Red one of these days. We WERE Red not long ago. If we learn anything from the Shitshow of the past four years, it's to STOP assuming shit.

Trump rebuffed efforts to call in National Guard, aides intervened for 'sake of the country'
Yep. That happened. Maybe he should have scheduled a photo op with a bible somewhere near them. Then maybe this wouldn't have happened. There's a reason he didn't "Join Them" to march to the Capitol like he said in his speech. It's because he lit that fire then sat and watched in his bunker.

US Congress has formally validated Joe Biden's presidential election victory on a day that saw a time-honoured ceremony become a nightmare of unprecedented political terror.
    Key points:
Mr Biden defeated Mr Trump by 306-232 electoral votes
Mr Trump said there would be an "orderly transition", acknowledging defeat for the first time
His response to the violence in Capitol Hill was criticised by members of his administration

The House and Senate certified the Democrat's electoral college win early on Thursday local time, after a violent throng of pro-Trump rioters spent hours running rampant through the Capitol.

Vice-President Mike Pence, in declaring the final vote totals behind Mr Biden's victory, said this "shall be deemed a sufficient declaration of the persons elected president and vice-president of the United States".

After claiming he would "never concede" during a rally hours earlier, President Donald Trump admitted defeat in the November 3 election for the first time, following the vote count.

The outcome had never been in doubt, but had been interrupted by rioters who forced their way past metal security barricades, broke windows and scaled walls to fight their way into the Capitol building.

A woman was fatally shot, windows were bashed and the mob forced shaken members of Congress and aides to flee the building, shielded by Capitol Police.

The rampage began shortly after Mr Trump repeated his unfounded claims of election fraud to thousands of rallying demonstrators he'd invited to Washington.

Thirteen Republican senators and dozens of GOP representatives had planned to force debate and votes on perhaps six different states' votes.

The assault on the Capitol made some Republicans squeamish about trying to overturn Mr Biden's win, and challenges were lodged only against Arizona and Pennsylvania. Both efforts lost overwhelmingly.

Mr Biden defeated Mr Trump by 306-232 electoral votes and will be inaugurated January 20.

LIVE UPDATES: Read our blog for the latest in US politics as the fallout from the election continues
Mr Biden has announced Merrick Garland as his pick for attorney-general, saying the federal appeals court judge and three others he has selected for senior Justice Department positions will "restore the independence" of the agency and faith in the rule of law.

The four lawyers are to be introduced by Biden at an event on Thursday afternoon local time in Wilmington, Delaware.

Judge Garland held senior positions at the Justice Department decades ago, including as a supervisor of the prosecution of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.

His nomination will force Senate Republicans to contend with someone they spurned four years ago — refusing even to hold hearings when former president Barack Obama nominated him for the Supreme Court.

Trump says there will be an 'orderly transition'
Mr Trump said there would be an "orderly transition on January 20th".

"Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th," Mr Trump said in a statement posted to Twitter by aides.

His personal account was locked by the social media company for posting messages that appeared to justify the assault on the seat of the nation's democracy.

He added: "While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it's only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!"

US President Donald Trump stands in front of American flags.
In an earlier video, Mr Trump praised the protesters as "special" people and said he understood their pain.(Reuters: Jim Bourg)
Mr Trump on Wednesday had encouraged his supporters to march on the Capitol to protest politicians' actions, and later appeared to excuse the violent occupation of the Capitol by the mob.

Authorities said four people died during the violence.

"These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long," Mr Trump wrote in a message that was later deleted by Twitter. He added, "Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!"

In an earlier video, he had praised the protesters as "special" people and said he understood their pain.

Social media giants ban Trump posts
Twitter later locked his account for the first time as it demanded he remove the tweets and threatened "permanent suspension".

Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat followed suit.

Mr Trump's response to the violence underscored his long obsession with trying to overturn the results of the election.

He has spent the final days of his presidency angrily stewing and lashing out at Republicans for perceived disloyalty while refusing to acknowledge his loss or concede.

A White House official said most of Mr Trump's attention was consumed by his ire at Vice-President Mike Pence, who had announced he would not overturn the will of voters in the congressional electoral count.

    Impending mass resignations
In a sign of growing frustration, a number of White House aides were discussing a potential mass resignation, according to people familiar with the conversation, although some harboured concerns about what Mr Trump might do in his final two weeks in office if they were not there to serve as guardrails when so few remain.

Stephanie Grisham, the first lady's chief of staff and a former White House press secretary, submitted her resignation, but declined to say what prompted her move.

Deputy national security adviser Matt Pottinger, White House social secretary Rickie Niceta and deputy press secretary Sarah Matthews also resigned, according to officials.

More departures were expected in the coming days, as other aides indicated they were staying to help smooth the transition to Mr Biden's administration.

This is all trump's fault. I hope every trump supporter knows people died for him and he doesn't give a fuck.

And it's pissing me off when I see people comparing this shit to BLM protests. Ugh.

Proud boys are also embrace misogyny.

Antifa-a political protest movement comprising autonomous groups affiliated by their militant opposition to fascism and other forms of extreme right-wing ideology. (from the google dictionary). They really gained fame for going toe to toe with the Neo Nazis in Charlottesville. According to Trump basically anyone that isn't with him is Antifa. :eyeroll:

QAnon-believe that the left and Hollywood are a bunch of lizard aliens who run a child pedophile ring. They believe that the Deep State is trying to take down Trump, and that a member of the Deep State (Q) posts cryptic messages on 4Chan and similar message boards to give them clues about what they need to do and what is going on. They believe pretty much all the conspiracy theories out there. They are the ones that doctored/posted the Christmas Day RV video to make it look like it was a missile and had nothing to do with the RV. Not. Crazy. At. All.

Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas faced calls for his resignation Wednesday as Texas Democrats said his leading role in efforts to block the certification of President-elect Joe Biden's electoral victory empowered the pro-Donald Trump rioters who breached the Capitol and disrupted the certification process.

Texas Democrats U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro and his brother Juli?n Castro, a former presidential candidate, tweeted that Cruz, also a former presidential candidate, should step down.

"He has conducted himself shamelessly, and I think he has done this because he believes it's the only way, the only chance that he has to win the Republican nomination for president," Joaquin Castro said from the Capitol in a virtual interview with The Texas Tribune on Wednesday.

Congress convened Wednesday to formally certify the November election results, which have been called safe and secure by state governments and by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Trump for months has falsely insisted that he won the election - and has turned to Cruz to make his case.

READ MORE: Congress validates Biden's presidential victory; 4 dead after Trump mob storms US Capitol

Here are his full remarks verbatim on the Senate floor moments before the riot occurred.

"A bit more recognition that we are gathered at a time when democracy is in crisis. Recent polling shows that 39% of Americans believe the election that just occurred, quote, was rigged. You may not agree with that assessment, but it is nonetheless a reality for nearly half of the country. I would note it is not just Republicans who believe that. Thirty-one percent of independents agree with that statement. Seventeen percent of Democrats believe the election was rigged.

Even if you do not share that conviction, it is the responsibility, I believe, of this office, to acknowledge that is a profound threat to this country and the legitimacy of any administrations that will come in the future. I want to take a moment to speak to my Democratic colleagues. I understand. Your guy is winning right now. If Democrats vote as a block, Joe Biden will almost certainly be certified as the next president of the United States.

I want to speak to the Republicans who are considering voting against these objections. I understand your concerns, but I urge you to pause and think what does it say to the nearly half the country that believes this election was rigged if we vote not even to consider the claims of illegality and fraud in this election. And I believe there is a better way. The leaders just spoke about setting aside the election. Let me be clear, I am not arguing for setting aside the results of this election. All of us are faced with two choices, both of which are lousy. One choice is vote against the objection. And tens of millions of Americans will see a vote against the objection as a statement that voter fraud doesn't matter, isn't real, and shouldn't be taken seriously."
Cruz agreed last year to argue Texas' long-shot lawsuit alleging voter fraud before the Supreme Court. But justices rejected the case.

On Wednesday, Cruz led GOP lawmakers' dispute to certify Arizona's electoral votes. Trump encouraged his supporters to attend rallies in Washington on Wednesday and gave a speech again falsely claiming he'd been reelected before throngs of his backers later breached security and entered the Capitol, where police fatally shot a woman, according to The Washington Post.
Cruz quickly denounced the rioters' actions.

"Those storming the Capitol need to stop NOW," Cruz wrote on Twitter, adding that violence is "ALWAYS wrong" and that "those engaged in violence are hurting the cause they say they support."
But in Cruz's hometown of Houston, leaders were not happy with him. Mayor Sylvester Turner wrote on Twitter that, "Texans should hold Sen. Ted Cruz accountable for this fiasco."

Houston Chief of Police Art Acevedo echoed that sentiment.

"Shame on you @tedcruz, @GOPLeader, and all who fed the false narrative about our election, which has led to what we are witnessing in our Nation's Capitol," Acevedo wrote on Twitter. "You fanned the flames of mistrust and history will hold you accountable for the ensuing chaos. Outrageous!"

The state's Democratic party says it is calling on Cruz's resignation for "acting in bad faith and subsequently inciting treasonous and seditious acts among conspiracy theorists and domestic terrorists."

Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:

"The American people have spoken, and Joe Biden will be the next president. That is how democracy works. Countless election challenges by Trump and his allies have failed. Democrats, Republicans and independents alike have agreed that our democracy must come before any party, and the United States Congress will soon take the next step of formally ratifying the will of the American people and certifying the election results."

SEE ALSO: Texas lawmakers react to protesters storming US Capitol

Hinojosa said the events at Capitol Hill were a shock but not a surprise and that Cruz's actions "have undermined our democracy, inspired treasonous, seditious acts, and brought shame to Texas. The tragic results of his actions will reverberate for generations. By leading the objection to the Electoral College certification, all the while knowing the devastating consequences, he has demonstrated he is not fit to serve in the U.S. Senate."

The senator's office declined to answer questions about calls for Cruz's resignation.
As the pandemonium persisted throughout the afternoon in Washington, Cruz's campaign sent out fundraising text and email messages to his supporters.

"I'm leading the fight to reject electors from key states unless there is an emergency audit of the election results," the message read. "Will you stand with me?"

An aide to Cruz said the messages were sent "from a firm" and not approved by Cruz to be sent.

"In no way shape or form would he ever have approved this to go out right now," the aide said in a statement. "He is dismayed by what's happening in the Capitol and called on those storming the Capitol to stop the violence."

Left-leaning group Progress Texas also urged Cruz to drop his challenge of the Electoral College vote Wednesday.

"Cruz's act of political theater has brought domestic terrorism to our nation's capitol, which is why he needs to drop the challenge immediately," executive director Ed Espinoza said in a statement.

Early Thursday morning, Cruz released a statement on the Electoral College certification process, which you can read below.

"The attack at the Capitol was a despicable act of terrorism and a shocking assault on our democratic system. The Department of Justice should vigorously prosecute everyone who was involved in these brazen acts of violence. I thank the brave men and women of the U.S. Capitol Police and all other law enforcement agencies who responded to restore peace.

"Now, we must come together and put this anger and division behind us. We must stand side-by-side as Americans. We must continue to defend our Constitution and the rule of law.

"That's why my colleagues and I called for an electoral commission to give Americans confidence in this past election and in elections going forward. Millions of Americans who have peacefully expressed their deep concerns regarding election integrity deserve to have their voices heard. It was the right thing to do. I very much wish Congress had not set aside these concerns, but I respect the position each of my colleagues took. Debate in the two houses of Congress is the proper way to resolve our political differences, not through violent attacks.

"Now, Congress must fulfill our constitutional responsibility to complete the Electoral College certification process. We must, and I am confident we will, have a peaceful and orderly transition of power, pursuant to the Constitution."

Ugh, getting into a debate on FB with my housekeeper (or ex-housekeeper, she just doesn't know it yet - and no, not for these reasons). She posted that she was really disappointed this morning to hear news that Biden is president. I couldn't help myself. I posted that the most disappointing thing should be what happened at the capitol yesterday. And of course, she immediately said she didn't understand how people were okay with the destruction and rioting at BLM protests were shocked and upset by what happened at the capitol. Seriously? I tried saying they don't even compare. Breaking a window at a CVS is NOT the same as what happened at the capitol. That BLM protesters were fighting for the killing and MURDERS of innocent people.....these idiots at the capitol were just mad their precious trump didn't win. Yeah, totally the same thing.

Ugh. I usually don't engage on FB but her post really pissed me off.

. Barack Obama has joined fellow former presidents George W Bush and Bill Clinton in condemnation of the violence on Capitol Hill, directly calling out Donald Trump for inciting the actions of the rioters.

He wrote: “History will rightly remember today’s violence at the Capitol, incited by a sitting president who has continued to baselessly lie about the outcome of a lawful election, as a moment of great dishonour and shame for our nation.”

“But we’d be kidding ourselves if we treated it as a total surprise,” Mr Obama added.

Taking aim at the Republican Party and he accused the party and its accompanying media ecosystem of being unwilling to tell their followers the truth regarding the election and that President-elect Joe Biden will be inaugurated on 20 January.

“Their fantasy narrative has spiralled further and further from reality, and it builds upon years of sown resentments,” Mr Obama wrote. “Now we’re seeing the consequences, whipped into a violent crescendo.”

He continued: “Right now, Republican leaders have a choice made clear in the desecrated chambers of democracy. They can continue down this road and keep stoking the raging fires. Or they can choose reality and take the first steps toward extinguishing the flames. They can choose America.”

The former president said he was heartened to see so many members of the president’s part speak up forcefully today, adding their voices to the example of state and local election officials who refused to be intimidated by Mr Trump.

Earlier President Bush decried the riots by Trump's supporters, comparing it to how “election results are disputed in a banana republic”.

Mr Bush described the riots as "scenes of mayhem" and called it a "sickening and heartbreaking sight".

"I am appalled by the reckless behaviour of some political leaders since the election and by the lack of respect shown today for our institutions, our traditions, and our law enforcement," he said.

He indirectly referred to Mr Trump saying that people’s passions had been “inflamed by falsehoods and false hopes”.

President Clinton said the riots were fueled by “more than four years of poison politics spreading deliberate misinformation, sowing distrust in our system, and pitting Americans against one another.”

He continued: “The match was lit by Donald Trump and his most ardent enablers, including many in Congress, to overturn the results of an election he lost.”

The former presidents were joined in their condemnation by senior figures from both sides of the aisle, including Vice President Mike Pence as he reconvened the Senate

The Ex presidents come forward on the Trump riots at the Capitol.

Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao on Thursday became the first Trump Cabinet member to resign because of Wednesday's storming of the Capitol.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos joined her hours later, according to a resignation letter obtained by ABC News.

In a tweet to agency staff, Chao said she was "deeply troubled" by what she called an "entirely avoidable event as supporters of the President stormed the Capitol Building after a rally he addressed," adding that it was something "I simply cannot set aside."

Chao is married to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell who about the same time issued a statement citing "those who incited" the rioters.

"The ultimate blame for yesterday lies with the unhinged criminals who broke down doors, trampled our nation's flag, fought with law enforcement, and tried to disrupt our democracy, and with those who incited them. But this fact does not and will not preclude our addressing the shocking failures in the Capitol's security posture and protocols," he said.

In her resignation letter, addressed to President Donald Trump, DeVos cited the president's role in Wednesday's "unconscionable" attack on the Capitol.

"We should be highlighting and celebrating your Administration's many accomplishments on behalf of the American people," she wrote. "Instead, we are left to clean up the mess caused by violent protesters overrunning the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to undermine the people's business."

"There is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had on the situation, and it is the inflection point for me," she added.

The resignation is effective Friday, according to the letter.

DeVos, who has long been criticized by teachers' unions, received a blunt goodbye from the American Federation of Teachers.

"Good riddance," the union said in a statement.

A Treasury Department official confirmed to ABC News that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin intends to fulfill his duties through the end of the president's term.

Mnuchin, one of Trump's most loyal and one of the few remaining original Cabinet secretaries, is currently traveling abroad.

At a joint news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Mnuchin said, "The violence that occurred last night was completely unacceptable. These actions must stop. Our democratic institutions have been strong for a very long period of time. Our democracy will prevail, and our institutions will remain strong. Now is the time for our nation to come together as one and respect the democratic process in the United States."

Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller issued a new statement Thursday condemning the violence at the Capitol and saying he will remain on the job through Jan. 20.

He called the rioting "reprehensible and contrary to the tenets of the United States Constitution." He said that because of the service of the D.C. National Guard, and federal and local law enforcement, "the attempts of those who tried to stop our government from functioning failed.

"I strongly condemn these acts of violence against our democracy," he added. "I, and the people I lead in the Department of Defense, continue to perform our duties in accordance with our oath of office, and will execute the time-honored peaceful transition of power to President-elect Biden on January 20."

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue told reporters in Georgia he has not been in touch with any other Cabinet members about possibly invoking the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office and doesn't plan to do so, indicating, but not specifically saying, he will not resign.

"I'm saddened by the events that I saw, very sad. That's not what I know of as America we transition power in our democracy usually in a very way so I'm very saddened by what I saw and I'm very discouraged by the people that were there that felt compelled to breach the Capitol and do the things that they did. That's not representing who Americans are it's certainly not representing who Georgians are."

Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette said he will be "fully focused" for the next 13 days and is committed to a smooth transition of power.

EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler sent his staff a message Thursday morning saying he was "completely disgusted" by the Capitol attack on Wednesday, but made no mention or allusion to the role of the president.

He also said he intends to stay on the job until Jan. 20.

"The demonstrators who infiltrated the Capitol have defiled the seat of American democracy," he said. "To those that engage in the acts of violence and disruption, you do not represent our country. To those that broke the law, you will pay."
I wonder how Trumpers feel now that Trump has hung them out to dry?! Also, I read on CNN that he's looking into self-pardoning (but not sure if that was before or after the riots).

I'm just going to say it. If this had been a BLM event, WAY more people would've been shot by police.

Yep. I know my posts on the previous page are TL:DR, but several politicians are saying the same thing, including Biden.

They had the chance to avoid this when they impeached him. They still had the chance to avoid this for the past 2 months while he publicly riled up this mob with lies and conspiracy theories by invoking the 25th. NOW, they STILL won't invoke the 25th after he literally staged an attack on our Nation's Capitol. Wtf is wrong with them?

Do they really think he isn't going to use these next two weeks to create something even worse than what happened Wednesday? He's got dictators on the phone giving him step by step instructions on what to do next for all we know. Even Stevie Wonder could see this coming.

ETA: A friend of mine put it best

Just to put things in perspective:

During the Civil War, 620,000 solidiers died (360,000 Union troops) to keep the Confederate flag from flying in the US Capitol building.

On 9/11, 40 Americans died to prevent terrorists from flying United Flight #93 into the US Capitol, and destroying the building.

Yesterday we saw a President incite a mob that allowed the Confederate flag to fly inside the US Capitol, and terrorists to ransack the Capitol.

No. Two wrongs don't make a right. Stop spouting that you want to kill people or you're going to get a ban. What they are doing is WRONG, but no one person should be judge, jury and executioner of another human being (unless they are defending their life or another person's life at that very moment), this is what theses extremists do.

This is what people did after 9/11...and murdered innocent Muslims and Sikhs and other people with brown skin...all in the name of 'fighting terrorism'.

We do not need any revenge mobs or vigilantes.

I meant that as a commentary for a long term solution needs to be released at some point in the Biden Administration that can fit within the US Constitution. Its not a troll statement.I know for a fact that just removing the right with summary execution will not work in the long term Its going to make the USA worse than the Hutu's Vs.Tutsi's in Rwanda 25 years ago. Its just my commentary is myself trying to understand what is the next move going to be that Biden Supporters like myself can agree with.

Vice President Mike Pence is expected to attend Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration later this month after overseeing Wednesday’s chaotic certification of the president-elect’s Electoral College win.

Three sources close to Pence said he would likely make an appearance at the Jan. 20 event in a show of support for the peaceful transition of power. The decision to attend, they said, became easier after President Donald Trump publicly criticized Pence leading up to, and following, his refusal to stop the certification.

It was a much more difficult decision days ago, but less difficult now,” said a person close to Pence.

Devin O’Malley, a spokesman for the Vice President, said Pence and the second lady "have not yet made a decision on their attendance.”

Trump, meanwhile, has declined to say whether he plans to attend his successor’s swearing-in at the U.S. Capitol but has told staff he doesn’t expect to be there, according to a former Trump aide who remains close to the White House.

Instead, White House aides are discussing the president and first lady leaving for their South Florida resort Mar-a-Lago the day before the inauguration so that they are not in Washington when Biden takes the oath of office, according to a Trump friend.
Trump could even leave that morning and have a rally upon his arrival in Palm Beach, said a former senior administration official. The president had previously considered counter-programming Biden’s inauguration with a 2024 campaign announcement, though aides no longer expect him to make such an announcement in the immediate future, if ever. Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and top aide, and Bill Stepien, Trump’s 2020 campaign manager, have advised Trump not to announce on Jan. 20 and to take his time to decide what to do, according to two people familiar with the discussions.

Trump wants to leave Washington before Biden is sworn in, in part because he wants to fly to Florida on Air Force One, the highly customized Boeing aircraft that carries the president, those officials said. If he leaves after Biden takes his oath of office, he would have to ask Biden to allow him to use a plane for his departure, as is customary. Technically, that plane would not be called Air Force One.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Biden’s inauguration is expected to be a largely virtual affair with limited in-person ceremonies. The inaugural committee tasked with planning the event previously implored people not to travel to Washington for the inauguration — a warning that is likely to be amplified following an unprecedented breach of the Capitol complex by pro-Trump protesters on Wednesday.

The rioting by Trump’s supporters — who succeeded in temporarily halting the certification vote after storming the halls of Congress and forcing the evacuation of its members — attracted widespread condemnation on Wednesday, including from Pence and his allies.

Two people familiar with the matter said the president did not speak to Pence on Wednesday—declining to check in on the vice president, or his wife Karen and daughter Charlotte, after they were escorted to a secure location inside the Capitol amid the chaos.

“We condemn the violence that took place here in the strongest possible terms… To those who wreaked havoc in our Capitol today: you did not win. Violence never wins,” Pence said in remarks he wrote himself as Congress reconvened late Wednesday night to resume the certification process.

I'm not a Pence fan, but I'd rather see him at the helm until the inauguration.
Mark my words, Trump’s going to try to do something on the 20th to take attention away from Biden. Trump hates not being in the spotlight.

I hadn't thought about it until I started watching "Designated Survivor," but right now, we have a very unstable person with launch codes to a nuclear weapon. Trump could start World War 3 before he leaves office.

Agreed. I don't like Pence but he's a lesser evil right now.

I think Trump stopped taking his meds and now he's legally retarded. Not to say he wasn't an idiot before, but something in his brain perma broke.
Did he even apologize to the families of the people who died? Did he apologize for inciting a riot? Is he even trying to deny he encouraged this whole thing at all?

This makes him look so bad...not that he cares. I try to stay out of politics, and I usually don't "rag" (ok that's a lie) on Trump, but I'm pissed he's riling all these low IQ, angry, impulsive people to do this shit because he can't deal with losing. Get him out of office, STAT. FUCK him. I'm a tad mad, can you tell?
