Wesley Allen Beeler arrested near Capitol with gun, 500+ rounds of ammo: D.C. Police

A gun and over 500 rounds of ammunition were found in the truck of a Virginia man who presented unauthorized credentials at a security checkpoint set up near the U.S. Capitol, police said Saturday.

Wesley Allen Beeler, 31, of Front Royal, Va., was charged in Superior Court of the District of Columbia with carrying an unlicensed pistol and possession of an unregistered firearm and ammunition.

U.S. Capitol Police said that Mr. Beeler was stopped Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at a security checkpoint established in anticipation of the upcoming inauguration of President-elect Joseph R. Biden.

Mr. Beeler presented a “non-government issued credential,” U.S. Capitol Police said in a statement it shared with The Washington Times.

U.S. Capitol Police Officer Roger Dupont recalled in an affidavit filed in court afterward that a colleague then “observed several firearm-related decals” on the rear windshield of Mr. Beeler’s truck.

Among the decals on the back of the truck were ones that said along the lines of “Assault Life” and “If they come for your guns Give ‘Em your bullets first’,” the officer wrote.

Mr. Beeler was then asked if he had anything in the car that could hurt the officers and replied that he was in possession of a handgun, according to the affidavit.

Police detained Mr. Beeler and searched his truck, where they found a loaded Glock 9mm, 509 9mm rounds of hollow point and ball ammunition and twenty-one 12 gauge shotguns shells, the officer wrote.

Mr. Beeler is not registered to carry the pistol in Washington, D.C., police said in a court filing. A lawyer listed as representing Mr. Beeler did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A security perimeter has been established around parts of D.C. including the Capitol, where Mr. Biden is set to be sworn in as the nation’s next president Wednesday.

The threat of extremist groups descending on statehouses across the country in demonstrations Sunday prompted governors to roll out a massive show of force and ramp up security, less than two weeks after a mob overran the nation’s Capitol.

Fencing, boarded-up windows and lines of police and National Guard troops have transformed statehouse grounds ahead of expected demonstrations leading up to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday.

The stepped-up security measures were intended to safeguard seats of government from the type of violence that occurred at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, when a mob supporting President Donald Trump swarmed the building while Congress was certifying the Electoral College vote.

The FBI has warned of the potential for armed protests at the nation’s Capitol and all 50 state capitol buildings beginning this weekend. Some social media messages had targeted Sunday for demonstrations, though it remained unclear how many people might show up.

Security in Washington, D.C., has intensified ahead of the inauguration. Tall fencing surrounds the U.S. Capitol, the National Mall is closed to the general public, and the District of Columbia’s mayor asked people not to visit. Some 25,000 National Guard troops from around the country were due in the city by early in the week. On Sunday, National Guard troops who have already arrived were stationed outside the Capitol with officers from the Customs and Border Protection as well as other federal police.

In the states, some authorities said they had no specific indication that demonstrations would occur, much less turn violent. Yet many state officials vowed to be prepared, just in case. They said they did not want a repeat of the mob’s assault on the Capitol, which left a Capitol Police officer and four others dead. Dozens of other officers were injured.

FBI Los Angeles: No known threats as officials ramp up safety efforts ahead of Inauguration Day
Man with ‘unauthorized’ inauguration credential, more than 500 rounds of ammunition arrested at D.C. checkpoint: Officials
State capitols from Sacramento to Atlanta fenced off, patrolled by troops ahead of protests planned Sunday
More than a third of governors had called out the National Guard to help protect their state capitols and aid local law enforcement officers. Several governors issued states of emergency, and others closed their capitols to the public until after Biden’s inauguration day.

Some state legislatures also canceled sessions or pared back their work for the coming week, citing security precautions. Texas is among the states closing their capitol grounds through the inauguration.

“The Texas Department of Public Safety is aware of armed protests planned at the Texas State Capitol this week and violent extremists who may seek to exploit constitutionally protected events to conduct criminal acts,” said Steve McCraw, the agency’s director.

More than 100 troopers in riot gear were stationed outside the Capitol in Austin earlier this week as lawmakers began a new legislative session. In Richmond, Virginia police braced for possible demonstrations early Sunday, with security fencing erected around the Statehouse.

Even before the violence at the U.S. Capitol, some statehouses had been the target of vandals and angry protesters during the past year.

Last spring, armed protesters entered the Michigan Capitol to object to coronavirus-related lockdowns and were confronted by police. People angered over the death of George Floyd, who died after a Minneapolis police officer pressed a knee into his neck for several minutes, vandalized capitols in several states, including Colorado, Ohio, Texas and Wisconsin.

And just last month, crowds in Oregon forced their way into the state Capitol in Salem to protest its closure to the public during a special legislative session on coronavirus measures.

Anticipating the potential for violence in the coming week, the building’s first floor windows were boarded up and the National Guard has been deployed. The Legislature was scheduled to begin its 2021 session on Tuesday, but much of its initial work has been delayed for at least two days because of warnings about potential violence.

’The state Capitol has become a fortress,” said Oregon Senate President Peter Courtney, a Democrat. “I never thought I’d see that; it breaks my heart.”

I just have a really bad feeling about this inauguration. Biden needs to make this the 'JP marriage at the court house" kind of inauguration. I know it will be a little disappointing for him compared to past inaugurations, but at least he will be alive.

This. When Obama was elected I was fairly sure he'd be assassinated by one or many of these crazies. Thank doG I was wrong, but I've got that old, bad feeling again. But, there are many reasons to have a very low key "Zoom" style inauguration, hit the ground running and save the country from it's self. Joe understands it's not about him. It's about getting the actual "best people" in place and handing them a bucket and a mop and letting them get to work...

That's what I'm saying. Biden needs to only have the people that will make this swearing in official. He can televise it for everyone that wants to watch. We don't need Lady Gaga or J. Ho.

Oh and my husband has an uncle that's works behind the scenes for CNN. He used to be a cameraman, but now, I think he's the one that makes sure the camera feed works properly when it's being transmitted to all of our tvs.
    He bought riot gear.
He's going to be at the inaguration and he bought riot gear.
I hope he's just being overly cautious.

Here is a person to look at a person who escaped White Supremacy. He is a former member that is now fighting against the very people he once supported. I guess it takes a certain person to find a strategy on how to escape a cult like the White Supremacy/Trump Cult and hard for others to blow the whistle they once supported.

If one is really looking for reconciliation that would have to wait either after Biden reaches office or the Trump's are long gone and in Prison or after Trump's heirs are gone.

woman who was caught at a Washington, D.C. inauguration checkpoint on Saturday told authorities that she was a member of the cabinet, according to a report. Linda McGovern, 63, was charged for impersonating a law enforcement officer, fleeing a law enforcement officer, and failure to obey.

“Magovern displayed “a round metallic object later identified as a Military Police Challenge Coin,” and said she was part of law enforcement, according to a police report. After initially complying when asked to park her car, Magovern drove off when then asked to provide her license,” according to a police report obtained by NBC News.

Avowed Trump supporter arrested near Capitol for carrying gun

A 22-year-old Virginia man whose Facebook page features a photo from the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol was arrested near the Capitol complex on Sunday, carrying three high-capacity magazines, 37 rounds of unregistered ammunition and a Glock 22 firearm.

The arrest of Guy Berry of Gordonsville, Va., was reported by D.C. police and confirmed by his aunt, who said she was his primary caregiver when he was a child and who asked not to be named to protect her privacy.

The aunt said she saw Berry on Jan. 6 and knows he was not at the Capitol that day, when a mob of supporters of President Trump forced their way into the building to try to stop the certification of his election defeat.

But she said her nephew often voiced pro-Trump sentiments and “always carries his gun.” Asked why, she said, “Just because he can.”

“He’s one of those open-carry people,” the aunt said, adding that she and her nephew disagreed over both politics and his decision to carry a firearm.

“I keep telling him Black men can’t walk around with guns on his hip, but he doesn’t believe me,” she said. She said she received a voice-mail message from him early Sunday saying he had been arrested, but had not yet spoken with him.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Groups of pro-Trump protesters were greeted by armed patrols outside of the Texas State Capitol on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

The group Saturday remained small and the Sunday event drew more people, but a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson said the protests have remained peaceful.

Groups present on Sunday who spoke to KXAN said they came to Austin from different parts of the state and planned the Jan. 17 protest in October — before the election happened — as a rally to express support for First and Second Amendment rights.

The gathering comes as all 50 state capitols are being watched for possible unrest leading up to the Inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

The possibility of violence comes off the heels of the U.S. Capitol riots in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6 — widely considered to be incited by President Donald Trump.

On Friday, the Texas Department of Public Safety announced the Capitol would close through Wednesday, after the Inauguration.

Texas DPS says it will have extra personnel and resources at the Capitol and is working with the FBI and the Austin Police Department in monitoring events.

The Capitol was closed after armed protesters showed up on Tuesday as state lawmakers returned for the first day of the legislative session.

Markie Martin, a NewsNation correspondent, reported receiving a courtesy letter from her hotel in downtown Austin on Saturday morning. The letter warned guests to “use caution when leaving the hotel and regularly check the local news and official city sources.”

Meanwhile, KXAN reporter Alyssa Goard is at the Texas Capitol on Sunday, where she reports seeing a few armed protesters, some wearing patches associated with the Boogaloo group — who the Anti Defamation League describes as an anti-government extremist group.

Many demonstrators wanted to make clear that they don’t agree with the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol more than a week ago.

“Unfortunately last week in Washington D.C. there were some things that happened that we absolutely disagree with, we condemned the actions of those who breached the Capitol and it seemed like, this event got lumped in or was being paralleled with what happened in D.C., that’s not the case at all,” said Kris Hunter, who was present at the Capitol Sunday. “We are mostly libertarians, we don’t care about Republican or Democratic politics.”

Hunter added that this event was part of a similar event organized at capitols across the country.
As people from that event left, they said they don’t plan to have any other events at the Capitol in the week to come.

A DPS spokesman said no arrests had been made as of Sunday afternoon. Most protesters have cleared the area.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) — Near the State Capitol, National Guard troops are on standby for potential unrest as Inauguration Day nears.

“Hoping it’s not going to happen. I’m hoping that there will be peace,” said local resident Zhanna.

Airbnb is also hoping for the same. The company announced it would cancel any Sacramento reservations linked to hate groups ahead of Wednesday.

If we confirm that guests are associated with a violent hate group or otherwise not allowed on our platform for violating certain community policies prohibiting violence or engaging in criminal activity, we will cancel those reservations and ban them from Airbnb.

    AIRBNB
It’s a decision that Zhanna agrees with.

“It’s a good idea. If it’s expected that there will be some heat then I hope everyone will be down to prevent it,” Zhanna told FOX40.

Colleen Adams, another local resident, agrees with Airbnb’s stance.

“Of course. Cancel the reservations that are booked for hate groups. Yeah, absolutely,” Adams said.

It is not known if any reservations have been canceled yet in Sacramento, but Airbnb says it has canceled reservations and removed accounts belonging to confirmed Proud Boys, a far right group that was connected to the U.S. Capitol riot.

Airbnb says it implemented the policy back in 2017 ahead of the white supremacists rally in Charlottesville.

For Adams, she appreciates the extra measures being taken, especially by law enforcement. But she wishes the resources were uses in others areas instead.

“I think it’s sad that all of this is happening because of a few people,” Adams said.

Airbnb also announced, if appropriate, it would share information with local law enforcement.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Amtrak is issuing a travel advisory in Washington D.C. ahead of the Presidential Inauguration.

Amtrak will continue to operate service as scheduled, except for some services in Virginia.

There will be no Northeast Regional service south of Washington D.C., including all Virginia stations on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 19 and 20. The Carolinian will only operate between Raleigh and Charlotte.

Amtrak says they are taking extra steps to ensure the safety of employees and customers in Washington and across the nation after the violent attacks on the U.S. Capitol.

Detours, as well as pedestrian and traffic patterns, have been put in place around Washington Union Station, which will require more time for people to get to the station.

For vehicle traffic patterns around Washington Union Station, click here.

For more information regarding Metro service plans and station closures during the inauguration, click here.

“After last week’s violent attack on the U.S. Capitol, we are taking extra steps to continue ensuring the safety of our employees and customers in Washington DC and across our network as we prepare for the Inauguration,” Amtrak officials said.

In addition to limiting ticket sales and requiring masks to be worn at all times, officials are increasing police enforcement to ensure strong compliance, remove noncomplying customers and ban those that don’t follow our policies.

This includes deploying additional Amtrak Police officers onboard our trains and in our stations to support our frontline staff, and utilizing additional support from TSA and partner law enforcement agencies.

. RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginians usually take to the steps of the state Capitol, the first Monday after the General Assembly comes together for its annual legislative session, to address their concerns to legislators, on what is known as Lobby Day.

The Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL), a gun-rights group, is planning to attend Lobby Day in the City of Richmond on Monday bringing four caravans from across the commonwealth with them.

The non-profit said they have caravans leaving from Fairfax, Hampton, Emporia and Staunton. VCDL brought over 20,000 people to the event last year.

    https://thehill.com/homenews/adminis...misinformation

The CEO of MyPillow, Mike Lindell, has been threatened with legal action by a voting systems company that says he has been one of the leaders of a "misinformation campaign" by baselessly claiming widespread voter fraud in the wake of the 2020 presidential election.

Dominion Voting Systems, a company targeted by President Trump and his allies, wrote to Lindell, a friend of Trump, telling the CEO that he "positioned [himself] as a prominent leader of the ongoing misinformation campaign,” according to The New York Times.

“Litigation regarding these issues is imminent,” the letter reportedly said.

Several other figures in Trump's legal orbit have been hit with similar warnings from Dominion, including conservative lawyer Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani, Trump's personal attorney, who have made repeated false claims about widespread electoral fraud and a "rigged" election against Trump.

Earlier this month, Dominion filed a $1.3 billion lawsuit against Powell for her claims the company rigged the election by manipulating votes.

"The recent attacks on the democratic process are not singular or isolated events," Dominion CEO John Poulos said at that time. "They are the result of a deliberate and malicious campaign of lies over many months. Sidney Powell and others created and disseminated these lies, assisted and amplified by a range of media platforms."

Update on the leader of MyPillow being the target of a Boycott

MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, who has repeated false claims that President Donald Trump did not lose the election, said retailers including Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl’s are removing his company’s products from their stores.

Trump’s supporters on social media platforms are now calling for boycotts of the retailers, while other consumers are urging people to not purchase MyPillow products.

“I just got off the phone with Bed Bath & Beyond,” Lindell said during an interview Monday evening with the Right Side Broadcasting Network. “They’re dropping MyPillow.”

“Just got off the phone — not five minutes ago. Kohl’s, all these different places. ... These guys don’t understand,” he went on. “They’re scared. Like a Bed Bath & Beyond, they’re scared. They were good partners. In fact, I told them, ‘You guys come back anytime you want.’”

Representatives from Kohl’s and Bed Bath & Beyond did not immediately respond to CNBC’s requests for comment.

A search by CNBC on both of the retailer’s websites Tuesday morning still showed available MyPillow merchandise for sale. MyPillow is also still sold at J.C. Penney, Amazon, Belk and some other major retailers.

Lindell has come under fire for spreading of conspiracy theories. Last year, for example, he promoted a fake cure for Covid. More recently, he has said there was widespread voter fraud during the 2020 election.

According to report by The New York Times, officials at Dominion Voting Systems have now sent Lindell a legal letter that warns of pending litigation over his baseless claims of widespread fraud involving their machines. Lindell was not immediately available to respond to CNBC’s request for comment about the letter.

Last week, Lindell was seen visiting the White House and carrying partially obscured notes that looked to tell Trump to invoke “martial law if necessary.”

Following Lindell’s interview where he referenced Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl’s, users on Twitter are calling for other retailers, like Walmart, to drop MyPillow as well.

The country’s largest retailer recently halted donations from its political action committee to the campaigns of congressional Republicans who opposed certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

Thats Right Mike Lindell is accused of funding Pro-Trump Terrorists.

Two Army National Guard members removed from inauguration duty

Two Army National Guard members were removed from inauguration duty as part of the security vetting process to ensure troops do not have ties to extremist groups, a defense official confirmed to CNN.

It is not clear at this time if the two are connected or what incident triggered their removal.

When asked to comment on the decision, the National Guard responded: "Due to operational security, we do not discuss the process nor the outcome of the vetting process for military members supporting the inauguration," and referred future questions to the Secret Service.

The Associated Press was the first to report the guards had been removed.

Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller said Monday that there is "no intelligence indicating an insider threat" to President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration.

Miller's statement came hours after the head of the DC National Guard said that the FBI is vetting troops involved in securing the US Capitol to prevent any insider threats.

"As is normal for military support to large security events, the Department will vet National Guardsmen who are in Washington, DC. While we have no intelligence indicating an insider threat, we are leaving no stone unturned in securing the capital," Miller wrote. "This type of vetting often takes place by law enforcement for significant security events. However, in this case the scope of military participation is unique."

Miller also thanked the FBI for its assistance in vetting members of the National Guard.

The enhanced screening measures come as thousands of National Guard members are patrolling the streets of the nation's capital ahead of Inauguration Day.

    Now it's up to 12.

    https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/19/polit...uty/index.html

Twelve Army National Guard members have been removed from inauguration duty in Washington, DC, as part of the security vetting process initiated, in part, to ensure troops tasked with securing Wednesday's ceremony in the nation's capital do not have ties to extremist groups, the Chief of the National Guard Bureau said Tuesday.

Two of the individuals were flagged due to "inappropriate" comments and texts, Army Gen. Daniel Hokanson told reporters after a defense official told CNN earlier Tuesday that they were removed over possible links to extremists.

The other 10 Guard members were removed for questionable behavior found in the vetting process, Hokanson said, emphasizing that this does not necessarily mean they have ties to extremists, but simply that they were "identified" and removed from service "out of an abundance of caution."

"I'm not concerned as a large part of our organization, if you look at 25,000, we've had 12 identified and some of those they are just looking into, it may be unrelated to this, but we want to make sure out of an abundance of caution as I stated earlier that we do the right thing until that gets cleared up," he told reporters.

Trump talked out of pardoning kids and Republican lawmakers

N)President Donald Trump received an unsettling warning on his final Saturday night in the White House.

Huddled for a lengthy meeting with his legal advisers, Trump was warned the pardons he once hoped to bestow upon his family and even himself would place him in a legally perilous position, convey the appearance of guilt and potentially make him more vulnerable to reprisals.

So, too, was Trump warned that pardons for Republican lawmakers who had sought them for their role in the Capitol insurrection would anger the very Senate Republicans who will determine his fate in an upcoming impeachment trial.

White House counsel Pat Cipollone and another attorney who represented Trump in his first impeachment trial, Eric Herschmann, offered the grave warnings as Trump, his daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner listened. Other lawyers joined by telephone. They all told Trump he should not pardon himself, his family or any GOP lawmakers in a prospective manner unless he was prepared to list specific crimes.

Cipollone and former Attorney General William Barr both warned Trump earlier this month they did not believe he should pardon himself, multiple sources familiar with the matter told CNN last week. Barr conveyed this position to Trump before resigning last month, sources say.

Trump continued to bring the matter up in the ensuing days, even after officials believed the issue was resolved. But the sobering meeting on Saturday evening at the White House seemed to put the idea to rest.

While Trump often discards advice he doesn't agree with -- particularly coming from Cipollone, with whom he has a fractured relationship -- the message Saturday resonated. The conversation spooked Trump in a way few others have, a person familiar with his reaction told CNN.

Now, Trump will leave office muted and disheartened at being unable to wield the power he has cherished most while president. Boxed in by his own actions that helped spark the riots at the Capitol, Trump finds himself constrained in a way he mostly avoided for his entire tenure.

I want to see those extremists' reactions when Trump doesn't help them out of the hole that he dug.
