AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) - An Austin man has died after police say his daughter's boyfriend brutally assaulted him over the weekend.

According to a police report, Eric Garcia asked his daughter's boyfriend, 24-year-old Jamie Apodaca, to leave his home after he heard him calling her derogatory names.

The report says Apodaca had lived at the family home for ten days and had been dating Garcia's daughter for a month.

Witnesses told police Apodaca left the home but returned moments later and started arguing with Garcia.

Apodaca then allegedly hit Garcia several times inside the home, and punched his daughter so hard one of her teeth fell out. Another person inside the home at the time was also injured.

The police report says once outside, Apodaca punched Garcia again, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head on concrete.

Garcia suffered serious injuries, including a skull fracture and a herniated brain.

Garcia's friend Rock Schouman confirmed to CBS Austin that Garcia passed away Thursday night.

Schouman set up a GoFundMe and Facebook donation page to help Garcia's family.

Jamie Apodaca is in Travis County Jail and currently faces several charges, including: Assault Causing Bodily Injury to a Family Member, Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury to a Family Member.
