Police: Prescott grandmother's (77) body was left in home a year longer than initially believed after killing

A 77-year-old Prescott grandmother believed to have been slain by her daughter and granddaughter was killed a year earlier than initially believed and her body left in her home for more that two years while her relatives cashed her monthly checks, authorities said Tuesday.

Last week, Prescott police said 46-year-old Tara Aven and 24-year-old Briar Aven confessed to killing Sandra Aven in late 2017 and cashing monthly checks in her name ever since. Tara Aven is Sandra's daughter, Briar her granddaughter, police said.

On Tuesday, police confirmed the woman's body officially was identified

Investigators also uncovered information that led them to believe that the murder actually happened in fall 2016 and not 2017 as initially thought, Prescott police said.

They also determined that Aven's cause of death was blunt force trauma, police said.

Aven's body was found on April 9 after a concerned resident reported to police that he hadn't seen her in "quite some time."

Officers began their investigation and found Briar Aven, who said her grandmother was "out of town and unavailable," police said.

Briar Aven and her mother lived next door to the elderly woman, police said.

Investigators found "several inconsistencies" in stories offered by both women, police said.

The women then confessed to the killing and said they had been cashing the woman's checks, police said.

Both women were booked in Yavapai County Jail on multiple charges.

Looks like she was trying to sell everything off after the murder. I think I did this right.

R.I.P., Sandra. What a horrible daughter & granddaughter you had. Hope their scary-looking-selves are locked away for a very long time!
