Najah Ferrell (30) missing from Avon, IN since 3/15/19

Police are now releasing vehicle details in the search for a missing Avon mother.

Police are hoping someone has spotted 30-year-old Najah Ferrell's black 2018 Nissan Altima with dark tinted windows. It has an Indiana plate number of XOM936.

Her family spoke with Eyewitness News about wanting her found.

"She's not here. She's not here and I want her. She's coming home. She's coming home. She has to. Her boys are so close to her," said Paula Gholson, crying.

Gholson is a mother wracked with anguish after her daughter disappeared last week without a trace.

"It's like she vanished. So we're concerned because Najah wouldn't leave her kids for a moment," Gholson explained.

Najah Ferrell has been missing for a week on Friday.

She was last seen by her fiance, her two sons and three foster children at their Avon home around 3 a.m. last Friday.

Najah was scheduled for her first day of work a few hours later at a local Panera at 5 a.m., but never made it there.

Later that same day, she was supposed to pick up her foster kids from school, but didn't show up there, either.

"I knew then...I said something is wrong, 'cause that's not Najah," Gholson remembered, adding her daughter's car, phone, and purse are missing too.

Najah's fiance was the last one to see her before she was to head out to work, but Gholson said she doesn't believe he actually saw her daughter leave the house that morning.

"She got up for work and told him to get the kids out, 'cause she had to go in and he said that's the last time he saw her," Gholson explained.

There are new developments in the search for missing Avon mother Najah Ferrell. Police believe they are on the right track with the latest developments including locating her missing car.

The breakthroughs came in a couple of ways.

Around 1:30am Tuesday a metro officer on Indy's northwest side located Ferrell's 2018 Nissan Altima in the parking lot at Studio Movie Grill. The car was in a parking spot in the out-lot of the property not far from the McDonald’s restaurant. Investigator want to hear from anyone who works or shops in that area who may have witnessed someone driving the Nissan. Detectives are checking all of the nearby businesses to see if security cameras may have captured video that would help.

Avon police also located some of Ferrell’s personal belongings along I-65 near Lafayette Road. The area is full of brush, trees and woods which may offer more clues in the case.

Tuesday afternoon, the lead detective working to find Najah, got help from one of the pilots for Indiana State Police. They flew over several northwest side areas to search for clues from the air. Investigators wanted to check the area from the air before spring time brings more vegetation.

Human remains found in a pond in Crown Point are believed to belong to missing Avon mom Najah Ferrell, the Avon Police Department has announced on Twitter.

Officers for the department are en route to the scene after being notified about the remains by the Crown Point police department, says Brian Nugent, Avon's deputy chief of investigations.

The department is in contact with Ferrell's family.

So it looks like it's not an accidental drowning.

On Monday, fishermen at a pond off I-65 and 109th Avenue in Crown Point discovered human remains. After the discovery, Crown Point police launched a thorough search of the pond and surrounding areas that continued into Tuesday.

The department had assistance from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the local fire department who began searching the pond and surrounding areas using underwater sonar, divers and a drone.

The remains were not officially confirmed to be Ferrell's as a positive identification cannot be made until the results of a DNA test are known and released to the Avon Police Department.

Police have not named a person of interest or suspect. But Brian Nugent, deputy chief of investigations for the Avon Police Department, says police believe "somebody knows something" and pleaded with anyone who has information to "come forward."

The foot was linked to Najah Ferrell, a mother from Avon who vanished on March 15, according to Fox affiliate WXIN. Her family said she was a no-show at work and failed to pick up her children after school.

Investigators later reportedly found items belonging to Ferrell and her car in two separate locations in Indianapolis.

Authorities discovered a tattoo on the foot that “was able to be matched up and found to be consistent with” a tattoo Ferrell was known to have had, the deputy chief said.

He said that two members of Ferrell’s family confirmed to investigators that the tattoo found on the foot matched the missing woman’s, and added that forensic pathologists “believe that the person we have preliminary identified as Najah Ferrell is deceased.”

“We do believe at this point that foul play is involved,” Nugent told reporters, adding that the probe into what happened to the woman is a “death investigation” rather than a “homicide investigation.”

Police returned to a northwest Indiana pond Thursday to search for more clues about a missing Avon mother. Conservation officers wrapped up part of their search just before noon on the pond.
But the search for Najah Ferrell is not over.

Despite learning from the coroner that Ferrell is likely deceased, investigators are determined to find the 30-year-old mother's body. Thursday morning, Crown Point police got help from the Department of Natural Resources searching the pond just off I-65 and 109th Street.
She disappeared March 15 and was last seen by her fiance and two sons. Eleven days later, an IMPD officer found Ferrell's car in the parking lot of Studio Movie Grill on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

Avon police recovered some of her personal belongs thrown off I-65 near Lafayette Road in Indianapolis. Now, nearly three weeks later and 125 miles away, their search for more evidence is also just off I-65.

Crown Point police searched the area by air with a drone. Eyewitness News has learned that in days to come, searches will take place in other nearby ponds with their sonar technology.

Avon police have confirmed human remains found in a Crown Point pond in April to be from missing Avon mother Najah Ferrell.

A call came in April 8 from a fisherman who pulled a severed foot out of the small pond. A tattoo is what led police to connect the remins to Ferrell.

Deputy Chief Brian Nugent with the Avon Police Department said Wednesday night that DNA analysis confirmed the remains belong to Ferrell.

Nugent said the investigation remains ongoing.

Investigators said foul play is suspected in the death of Ferrell.
