(CNN) ? Grief and sorrow know no borders, but Sunday's Ethiopian Airline crash is truly an international tragedy.
When the Nairobi, Kenya-bound plane went down shortly after taking off from Addis Ababa, it killed 157 people, seven of them crew members and one a security official, an airline spokeswoman said. The passengers were from 35 nations, the airline says.
"Among the most affected, as you may expect, is Kenya, which had about 32 passengers on board," said James Macharia, Kenya's transport minister.
There were also several UN staff on board, according to an official, who said it's believed that some of the staff members were freelance interpreters. The specifics are unclear because UN staff members don't always travel with their UN passports.
Though it's not clear why UN employees were on the plane, the UN Environment Assembly is scheduled to begin Monday in Nairobi.
Here are the nationalities of the passengers and security official, according to the airline, which has not yet reported the crew members' home countries:
Kenya -- 32
Canada -- 18
Ethiopia -- 9
China -- 8
Italy -- 8
USA -- 8
France -- 7
UK -- 7
Egypt -- 6
Germany -- 5
India -- 4
Slovakia -- 4
Slovakian lawmaker Anton Hrnko said on Facebook that his wife, Blanka, son Martin and daughter Michala were among the victims.
Austria -- 3
Russia -- 3
The Russian Embassy in Ethiopia tweeted the names of three Russian citizens who were on the plane: Ekaterina Polyakova, Aleksandr Polyakov and Sergey Vyalikov.
Sweden -- 3
Israel -- 2
Morocco -- 2
Poland -- 2
Spain -- 2
Belgium -- 1
Djibouti -- 1
Indonesia -- 1
Ireland -- 1
Mozambique -- 1
Norway -- 1
Rwanda -- 1
Saudi Arabia-- 1
Sudan -- 1
Somalia -- 1
Serbia -- 1
Togo -- 1
Uganda -- 1

Boeing 737 Max 8 planes grounded after Ethiopian crash
What pisses me off is that Boeing 'told the FAA to ground the planes out of an abundance of caution'. Um, no, that's not the way it works. That's the tail wagging the dog. Sadly, the FAA is full of Boeing ex-execs and vice versa. The FAA is pussy-footing around Boeing and letting them call the shots, instead of doing their goddamn job. These planes should have been grounded days ago.

Ethiopia snubs FAA, sends ‘black boxes’ from crashed Boeing 737 Max to France

The on board control system caused it to crash? That's scary. I hope that they can't be hacked. I could see some evil person causing planes to crash.
I'm still a bit skeptical about the aerodynamics of the plane in general. They used the same old 737 and put bigger engines on it. They had to move the engines in order to keep them from scraping the ground since they were bigger. This caused the plane to react different under certain aerodynamic situations, so they put in an 'in the background' control system and didn't really train the pilots on it. The pilots know about it know, but the plane still behaves oddly. I have a dear friend that flies it, and I wish he didn't have to.

Texas judge orders Boeing to be arraigned on charge in Max crashes
A federal judge has ordered Boeing Co. to be arraigned on a felony charge stemming from crashes of two 737 Max jets, a ruling that threatens to unravel an agreement Boeing negotiated to avoid prosecution.
The ruling by a judge in Texas came after relatives of some of the victims said the government violated their rights by reaching a settlement with Boeing without first notifying the families.
I am very pleased with this outcome. Boeing obviously isn't because they are now trying to rewrite the cause of the crash. I think this is a direct result of the judge's order.

US board says Boeing Max likely hit a bird before 2019 crash
Yes, remember Sully? But that's not what is going on here. They designed the plane with a new part that worked differently from other 737's, and didn't tell the pilots. When the new part activated, the pilots didn't know how to get out of the situation because they had no idea it had existed. Boeing pulled a sleight of hand with the FAA and DOT to get it certified without any training for the pilots. It was a bunch of bullshit.
Talk about evil....
