Macie Hill (8) was run over by another vehicle while participating in a 4th of July parade

"An 8-year-old girl participating in the Kaysville Independence Day parade was hit by a vehicle, bringing the parade to an end, authorities said.
Macie Hill, of Layton, was taken to a hospital in critical condition after the accident occurred at 175 S. Main in Kaysville, [UT]. Main Street in Kaysville remained closed for several hours while police investigated what happened. They said it was initially unclear whether Macie fell off the float and was hit, or if she was walking alongside it when she was hit. Macie was part of the Patriot Cheer All Stars cheerleading team in West Kaysville. Some of the participants had been riding on a flat-bed trailer pulled by a yellow Hummer, while others were following behind and dancing alongside the vehicle as it slowly traveled the parade route north along Main Street in Kaysville."

    What a horrible tragedy.

I mean no disrespect, but why does the family need a GoFundMe, which has now raised well over $100k?

One of my bestfriend’s daughters took her life a couple years back, shooting herself in the head. Was life flighted to the hospital and died (taken off life support) the next day. I was spending time with mom 3 weeks later when a bill came…addressed to the deceased daughter and bill in her name for over $100,000 for the helicopter alone.

That is so sad, I am sorry.

I know bills come in, but if one has good insurance, the costs are either partially or completely covered. For example, our son-in-law was life flighted to a hospital, as he had COVID and was to be placed on ECMO. He was in the hospital for almost a month before passing away; all the while on ECMO. My bonus daughter received bills upwards of $2 million dollars. Thankfully he had good insurance and she only had to pay a couple of hundred dollars after the dust settled with the bills.

I say all this, and go back to my original question, as this little girl's father is a doctor, an ophthalmologist. Unlike people who really need the GoFundMe funds, I doubt this family needs the now $111k raised thus far.

With all due respect and sympathies to the girls family. This is another case of the rich getting richer. Go fund me is a fantastic resource for those who need it in times of tragedy. Considering the fathers profession, they are not in need of funds. Having raised that kind of money so far, they will have paid nothing out of pocket for their daughters final expenses. Yet there are those who struggle or are unable to pay for a basic funeral, let alone any of the other final expenses. They should take that money and donate it.

Im wondering how a vehicle struck her when the roads are usually blocked off and no cars can come through. Was the car traveling behind the float?

I'm pretty sure the Hummer that ran over her was right behind her float vehicle. They aren't sure if she was walking alongside the float or fell off.

Ok that makes sense. Must have been a horrible scene.

    R.i.p. to this little girl.
I can't believe the amount of deaths and accidents this 4th of July.
