    Apparently locals are sharing 2 names as the guilty parties. Whether they're the right guys or not they better hope police find them first

    The comments are in here, including some by witnesses who may have seen the truck before & after the troop was hit

    From Bewitching's link:
    Madalyn is extremely lucky and is continuing to fight. She has already gone through open heart surgery, has 2 broken legs (needing multiple surgeries to try to fix), a displaced pelvis, a broken cheek bone, a broken wrist, a broken arm, cuts in her kidney and spleen and many other cuts/bruises. It was noticed there is a small amount of bleeding in the brain which is going to make the stay in the hospital a little longer. Unfortunately she won't be able to stay in the hospital too long because she needs to get back to doing what she loves...riding horses, dancing, singing, gymnastics and putting a smile on everyone's face.
    This poor girl has been through a lot and has a long way to go, but has a good attitude.

    Fuck this driver. It's one thing to swerve to miss hitting a dog, and going off rode and hitting someone accidently, but this fucker huffed and drove. He should have huffed and stayed at his damn house.

    Yeah, & they were local ffs. They both had homes nearby. I dont understand why you'd be doing that shit knowing you'd have to drive a vehicle afterwards

    Fucking hell. Wonder if it's true or the passenger's just trying to present himself in the best possible light - it's a pointless attempt if he is considering what they both did afterwards

    The suspect fought for the steering wheel before killing 3 Girl Scouts and a mom, prosecutor says
    By Jay Croft, CNN

    Updated 0400 GMT (1200 HKT) November 7, 2018

    (CNN)A 21-year-old driver struggled with his passenger over the steering wheel before driving his truck into a group of Girl Scouts, killing three and one of their mothers, prosecutors in Wisconsin said.

    The passenger told authorities he tried to correct the vehicle Saturday when he noticed Colten Treu crossing the center line near Lake Hallie, Chippewa County District Attorney Wade Newell said Monday.

    Colten Treu

    Treu was "somewhat out of it," the passenger said, and grabbed the wheel back, drove off the roadway and struck the group, Newell said.

    A fourth girl, 10, was injured as the group was participating in a highway cleanup project. She was in stable condition Monday at a hospital.

    Police have identified the victims as:

    ? Jayna S. Kelley, 9, of Lake Hallie;

    ? Autumn A. Helgeson, 10, of Lake Hallie;

    ? Haylee J. Hickle, 10, of Lafayette;

    ? Sara Jo Schneider, 32, Haylee's mother.

    Treu appeared before a judge via video Tuesday afternoon for an initial appearances on 11 counts, including four counts of homicide and four counts of hit and run causing death. He is scheduled to be in court again December 11. He is being held on $250,000 bond.

    The criminal complaint says that he told police he and his passenger -- who has not been charged -- were sniffing a computer keyboard cleaner he had bought at Walmart. He told police he saw the people in the ditch picking up trash wearing highly visible reflective vests. He said he lost control of the vehicle and fishtailed after the passenger grabbed the wheel, the complaint says.

    Treu and the passenger told police they had been "huffing," or intentionally inhaling chemical fumes, police have said.

    The fatal incident was similar to one in September, when Treu crashed his car and police found methamphetamine and THC in it, Newell said in court.

    After Saturday's fatal wreck, Treu went home and had someone else park the vehicle in the garage, the complaint says.

    He took another car out to a party with friends, Newell said.

    Court documents say a deputy followed a trail of fluid from the scene of the crash to a home that Treu shares with the other man in the truck.

    Treu has not yet been assigned a public defender. Temporary representation was with him for his court appearance again Tuesday, and CNN has reached out to the attorney for comment.

    Treu was found guilty of "operating with a prohibited blood alcohol concentration" in November 2014 in Chippewa County, the complaint says. On October 2 this year, he was released on bond on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine.

    On Tuesday he was charged with felony bail jumping for not complying with the terms of the bond.
    He faces a maximum sentence of 40 years for each count of homicide and up to 25 years for the hit-and-run charges.

    Huffing air duster can sometimes cause very realistic hallucinations, as well as loss of consciousness with random momentary black outs.

    Seems like the two guys’ stories are being presented slightly different.

    Passenger in vehicle that struck, killed 3 Girl Scouts and a mom in Chippewa County convicted of felony

    https://madison.com/news/local/crime...related-bottom

    The passenger in a vehicle that struck and killed three Girl Scouts and a mother in November 2018 was convicted Monday of a felony for his role in the crash.

    John E. Stender, 24, 817 2nd Ave., Eau Claire, pleaded no contest to harboring/aiding a felon-falsifying information in Chippewa County Court. A misdemeanor charge of intentionally abusing a hazardous substance was read-in and dismissed.

    Stender was a passenger in a truck driven by Colten Treu, who struck the Scouts as they were cleaning debris near Highway P in the village of Lake Hallie. Treu and Stender then drove to their house, where they hid the truck in a garage. Treu was sentenced in March 2020 to serve 54 years in prison.

    Judge James Isaacson set a sentencing date for July 26. Isaacson ordered a pre-sentence investigation, and defense attorney Harry Hertel informed Isaacson he will seek an alternative PSI. The crime is a felony G in Wisconsin and carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, plus five years of extended supervision, and a $25,000 fine.

    Stender remains free on a signature bond. Chippewa County District Attorney Wade Newell did not request for bond to be revoked after the hearing, even though Stender is now a convicted felon.

    "Generally, whenever someone enters a plea voluntarily, we don't revoke bond," Newell said after the hearing concluded. "It has its risks and rewards. It's part of getting someone to voluntarily plea."

    At a hearing March 25, Isaacson ruled that all victim impact statements and comments from the family and friends of those injured and killed in the crash will be considered when he sentences Stender. However, Hertel contends the victims of that crime are the police who were looking for the vehicle, not the victims of the crash or their families and friends.

    According to the criminal complaint, Treu and Stender had purchased an aerosol can at the Lake Hallie Walmart on Nov. 3, 2018, and were driving back to Treu’s home at 1060 Joseph St., Chippewa Falls. Both men had “huffed” from the aerosol can during the drive.

    The crash happened as Treu was driving northbound on Highway P, just south of the Highway 29 overpass. Treu’s vehicle veered off the west side of the road and struck the group of Girl Scouts as they were removing litter.

    During his sentencing hearing, Treu claimed Stender caused the crash. Treu said he yelled at Stender, saying “What are you doing?” when Stender grabbed the wheel.

    Treu said he overcorrected the vehicle and wound up going in the ditch, where he struck the Girl Scouts.

    In interviews with law enforcement, Stender admitted he grabbed the wheel of the car, causing Treu to yell at him. Stender recalled seeing one person being struck by the vehicle; he hit his head and lost consciousness. He woke up just before they arrived at Treu’s home.

    After striking the five people — one Girl Scout who was hit survived the crash — Treu drove his vehicle back to his home rather than staying at the scene. He then hid the pickup in a garage. Stender did not immediately assist law enforcement or return to the scene, leading to the charge of assisting or harboring a felon.

    Newell filed the charges against Stender just days after Treu’s sentencing concluded.

    The four people killed in the crash were Autumn Helgeson and Jayna S. Kelley, 9, both of Lake Hallie, Haylee J. Hickle, 10, and her mother, Sara Jo Schneider, 32, both of the town of Lafayette.
