    Misogynistic bullshit!

I thought I would make a thread for all the misogynistic stories I see all the time, like the thread we have for the bad politicians, racist crap, and bad cops.

A Florida man accused of groping a woman aboard a Southwest Airlines flight over the weekend later defended his lewd actions to police, saying ?the President of the United States says it?s ok to grab women by their private parts,? according to court documents.

Bruce Michael Alexander, 49, of Tampa, was aboard Flight 5421 from Houston, Texas, to Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Sunday when he grabbed the right breast of a woman seated in the row in front of him, a criminal complaint filed with the US Attorney?s Office for the District of New Mexico states.

The victim told police that she dozed off after boarding and within 20 minutes into the flight, she felt ?a movement on the right side of her sweater,? the complaint says, adding that the woman had initially assumed the touching was an accident.

Roughly 30 minutes later, the victim ?felt fingers slowly grab the back of her arm, squeezing above the elbow, then slowly and ?attentively? grope her right side, again at and around her ribs and ?bra line,?? according to the court document.

The hand, the woman said, ?had thick fingers, were hairy and dirty fingernails.?

After the second groping incident, the victim turned around ?and told the passenger behind her that she didn?t know why he thought it was ok [to touch her] and he needed to stop.?

The woman then asked a Southwest Airlines crew member to reseat her, and she moved to the back of the plane.

When Alexander was later arrested on a federal charge of abusive sexual contact, he referenced President Trump?s infamous ?grab them by the p?y? quote in the back of a police car.

?Later, in the vehicle, Alexander stated that the President of the United States says it?s ok to grab women by their private parts,? the criminal complaint says.

A Dallas-bound Southwest Airlines flight was suddenly diverted Tuesday after a disruptive passenger wanted to ?play footsie? with a woman and started shouting when airline officials asked him to leave her alone, KRQE reported.

Now Justin Riley Brafford faces a simple assault charge in Albuquerque, N.M., according to the station.

Authorities said Brafford sat next to a woman, touched her leg and then began ?playing footsies? with her during the flight, according to the Dallas Morning News. She tried to ignore him and told him to stop, but he tugged at her clothing and began asking her questions, including whether she was going to be staying alone at a hotel, according to the paper.

When she told him she didn?t want to go out with him, officials say he whispered ?don?t [expletive] with me? into her ear, and she asked to move seats, the Dallas Morning News reported.

A flight attendant moved the woman, but Brafford followed her over to her new seat, causing her to cry, according to the Albuquerque Journal. The flight attendant confronted Brafford, who officials said went from ?zero to sixty in nanoseconds? and began screaming and yelling, prompting the pilot to divert the flight, the paper reported.

Brafford told officials he thought the woman had been flirting with him and that they?d had a connection when he touched her leg, according to the paper.

The FBI took Brafford into custody in Albuquerque without incident, according to CBS-DFW.

Man receives 34-month prison sentence for raping woman as she OD'd on drugs

A Washington man was sentenced to just 34 months in prison after admitting he raped a young woman while she overdosed on drugs, then let her die.

Brian Varela, 20, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, rape and unlawful disposal of remains.

He admitted he gave 18-year-old Alyssa Noceda drugs last February, then raped her while she overdosed in his bedroom. He never helped her and even sent photos of her mostly nude body to his friends, mocking her as she lay there dying.

Then he tried to cover up Noceda's death by disposing of her body, but police caught him first.

"He could have done anything, but he chose to play a game and go to sleep," Alyssa's mother, Gina Pierson, said to KOMO-TV.

In court, Varela said, "I'm sorry for my foolish actions. Whatever I get is what I deserve."
A judge sentenced Varela to 34 months in prison Thursday, acknowledging she felt it was inadequate, but state law required her to follow sentencing guidelines. Varela had no criminal history.

"It's a joke. Three years for taking somebody's life. It's a joke," Pierson said. "Usually people who do stuff like this don't get away with a slap on the wrist."

Bull This person needs to face summary execution for what he did and have his organs harvested. We need a real Dexter Morgan or a Pedro Filho to go after him.

UT Austin releases sexts senator allegedly sent student

KXAN has obtained the text message conversation that's put local Republican Sen.Charles Schwertner, R- Georgetown, in hot water.

The University of Texas has not verified the texts are actually from Sen. Schwertner, only that these were the texts a student accusing him of misconduct turned in to Title IX investigators. They were released Tuesday afternoon in response to a public records request.

They show a number that matches the senator's asking a UT Austin graduate student to have sexual intercourse and telling her "this is Charles."

"And I have more proof of life ;)" shows a text message, followed by a picture censored by the University of Texas.

She then responds via text, "Please stop, this is unprofessional."

In the emails to the Title IX investigators, there are also several screenshots of conversations between the student and Schwertner from LinkedIn.

The Georgetown Republican has said he is innocent and his attorneys said in October they had a lie detector test to back up his denial. They said the test results showed he was telling the truth. KXAN has reached out to him and will update this story when he responds.

UT Austin closed its investigation into Schwertner and said "evidence does not support a finding" he was responsible for the texts, according to KXAN media partners at the Texas Tribune.

Magistrate Richard Pithouse referred to judicial watchdog after suggesting alleged rape victim had 'buyer's remorse'

Victoria's judicial watchdog will investigate a Melbourne magistrate over comments he made in court which suggested an alleged rape victim had suffered "buyer's remorse".

    Key points:

Richard Pithouse reportedly said an alleged sex assault victim "put herself in that position"

A petition to refer him to the Judicial Commission has received almost 8,000 signatures

A spokesman for the Attorney-General said his comments were "not in line with community expectations"

The Judicial Commission of Victoria, which probes complaints against magistrates and judges, has received a referral from Attorney-General Jill Hennessy to look into the matter.

"It's clear these comments are not in line with community expectations, and have caused distress to sexual assault survivors," said a spokesman for Ms Hennessy.

"That's why the Attorney-General is referring this matter to the Judicial Commission for further investigation."

During an exchange in court last year, Magistrate Richard Pithouse reportedly told a woman who claims she was raped that she had "put herself in that position" and had suffered "buyer's remorse", according to the Herald Sun.

"There's an old adage ? that you can't profit from your own malfeasance," the magistrate allegedly said.

    Pithouse petition gets momentum

The comments have infuriated some sections of the community, and sparked a petition calling for Magistrate Pithouse to be referred to the Judicial Commission.

The petition has received almost 8,000 signatures.

The Judicial Commission is an independent body and usually investigates excessive delays, inappropriate courtroom conduct and health issues affecting magistrates or judges.

It has the power to dismiss a complaint or refer it on.

In a statement, the commission said it would carefully consider the referral by Ms Hennessy.

"There is no set timeframe for when the investigation will reach its conclusion," it said.

"While the investigation is ongoing, it is not appropriate for the Commission to make any further comment."

Robert W. Patterson, a right-wing commentator turned acting associate commissioner at the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) Office of Strategic and Digital Communications, once railed against married women, homosexuality, and condoms, according to a series of clips gathered by liberal watchdog Media Matters for America.

In a 2011 since-removed Washington Examiner op-ed, Media Matters reports, Patterson wrote that the government “has facilitated the movement of mothers out of the home economy and into the market economy, undermining the family as an economic unit, marriage as a lifelong partnership, and the well-being of children.”
Media Matters also cites a report from The Philadelphia Inquirer, which summarized a piece Patterson co-wrote for the conservative journal Family in America.

The piece, the Inquirer notes, summarizes recent family-related studies—and covers one study which claims that condom use deprives women of the “remarkable” chemicals in semen.

The study also claims that “semen-exposed women” performed better on cognitive tasks.

Apple and Google urged to remove Saudi app that tracks women

Human rights defenders are calling on Apple (AAPL) and Google (GOOGL) to remove the Saudi government app Absher from its platforms, saying that it allows Saudi men to track women under their sponsorship.

In a letter addressed to Apple's CEO Tim Cook and Google's CEO Sundar Pichai Monday, the top Democrat on the US Senate Finance Committee, Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon, asked the tech giants to prevent their technical infrastructure and app stores from being used for enabling "abhorrent surveillance and control of women."

The Absher mobile app -- first available on iOS devices in 2015 and to Android devices in 2016 -- is a Saudi government e-portal where users can access an array of government services related to Hajj, visa, National ID, traffic violations, and health insurance among others, according to the Saudi Ministry of Interior.

Among those services is a feature for male guardians to decide whether their dependents can travel abroad and the parameters around their travel plans.

Under Saudi Arabia's restrictive guardianship laws, women cannot travel without permission from their male guardians. Critics argue that the Absher app is a technological extension of the repressive rules that restrict many aspects of everyday life for the country's female population.

"It is hardly news that the Saudi monarchy seeks to restrict and repress Saudi women, but American companies should not enable to facilitate the Saudi government's patriarchy," Wyden said in his letter.
"By permitting the app in your respective stores, your companies are making it easier for Saudi men to control their family members from the convenience of their smartphones and restrict their movements. This flies in the face of the type of society you both claim to support and defend," he said.

When asked about the fact that the Absher app lets Saudi men control the movements of their dependents, Cook told National Public Radio on Monday: "I haven't heard about it. But obviously we'll take a look at it if that's the case."

Apple has not responded to CNN's request for comment.

Google told CNN they were "looking into it," but did not have anything further to share at the moment.

Amnesty International has also called on Apple and Google to "assess the risk of human rights abuses on women which is facilitated by the App and mitigate the harm that the App has on women."

Does anyone remember Google's early days when their slogan was "don't be evil"?

    http://fortune.com/2019/03/04/google...ia-app-absher/

Google to Continue Hosting Controversial Saudi 'Woman-Tracking' App

Google has refused to remove a controversial Saudi government app that can be used by men to track women and stop them from travelling.

Absher, an app owned and operated by the kingdom’s interior ministry, will continue to be available to buy despite it coming under mounting scrutiny.

An investigation found the app, which gives men the power to grant and rescind travel permission for women and to set up SMS alerts for when they use their passports, did not violate Google’s terms of service.

Apple and Google faced criticism last month when 14 members of the US Congress wrote a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook and Google CEO Sundar Pichai asking both companies to stop hosting the app.

They accused the technology giants of enabling gender discrimination – describing both companies as “accomplices in the oppression of Saudi Arabian women”.

Both companies launched internal investigations into the app, which can be downloaded from both the Google Play store and Apple’s app store. Google has allowed the app to remain on its Google Play store and Apple’s investigation continues.

A Researcher Uncovered a Chinese Database That Lists the "BreedReady" Status of 1.8 Million Women

An internet expert says he has uncovered an open database in China that details the personal information of more than 1.8 million women, as well as something called their “BreedReady” status.

Victor Gevers, a Dutch researcher with nonprofit GDI.Foundation, tweeted his findings over the weekend.

In the screenshot Gevers posted, a field called “BreedReady” is last on the list, which also includes columns for “politics” and “education”. It’s unclear what the “BreedReady” term indicates, though Chinese netizens were quick to draw comparisons to the country’s panic over the plummeting birthrate and aging population.

According to his research, the database stored women’s names, ages and marital status, among other particulars. The youngest member of the database was listed at 15 years old, while the average age was around 32. More than 80% of the women included appear to live in China’s capital, Beijing.

On the Chinese social network Weibo, users called the database a “real-life Handmaid’s Tale,” likening it to Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel. Others called it “horrible and absurd”.

I've never listened to this podcast, so I don't have an opinion on how good it is, but I saw people discussing his behaviour on FB and based on what I saw he seems like an immature, narcissistic asshole. He outed a sexual assault victim and published her name. That's enough for me to think he's the twat.

Fox News couldn’t care less that Tucker Carlson is a misogynist

They’re freshly “unearthed.” They’re setting Twitter aflame. They’re alarming. They’re offensive. They’re unforgivable.

Oh, and there’s one other thing about the misogynistic comments made by Tucker Carlson years ago on a radio show: They’re in character. Because Carlson, the table-setting host of Fox News’s 8 p.m. hour, has long established himself as insensitive to women, sexist, misogynist — the whole putrid scale of scorn.

On Sunday, Madeline Peltz of Media Matters for America surfaced a bunch of comments that Carlson made when he called in to the radio show hosted by Bubba the Love Sponge between 2006 and 2011. After the radio host talked about girls at Carlson’s daughter’s boarding school engaging in sexual experimentation with one another, Carlson said, “If it weren’t my daughter I would love that scenario”; he slimed Arianna Huffington, calling her a “pig”; he referred to Alexis Stewart, the daughter of Martha Stewart, with the c-word; he said, “If [Hillary Clinton] could castrate you, she would.” And many more.

The commentary sounds as if the person saying it doesn’t fear accountability. You know — pick up the phone, spout some misogyny on a radio show and then proceed with your day. That’s just how fluid and glib Carlson sounds in the radio recordings.

And we know from the published record that the Tucker Carlson on the audiotapes is the real Tucker Carlson. There’s a lot more where they came from, in other words. Fox News, too, knew all about it — or, at the least, should have.

Weeks ago, the Erik Wemple Blog reported out a story wherein Carlson nearly a decade ago referred to then-Salon Editor in Chief Joan Walsh with the c-word. Ethan Strauss, an intern at Salon, was entrusted with recruiting Carlson to write a piece on then-President Barack Obama. In Strauss’s account, he established a rapport by talking with Carlson about their common roots in Southern California. When the topic shifted back to Salon, that’s when Carlson let loose. “He says at one point that Joan Walsh is such a c---, she’s such a c---.” He also said, in Strauss’s recollection, that Walsh needed to “get f---ed.” See this podcast for Strauss’s version of events.

The Erik Wemple Blog asked Fox News about these comments. We never received a response.

I could have sworn we had a thread on this, or it was in another combo thread, but I cannot find it. So if this ends up being a dup, sorry!

    https://www.thesun.co.uk/fabulous/75...eave-his-mark/

Student’s lip was BITTEN OFF by her ex… because he wanted to ‘leave his mark’ for her next boyfriend

Kayla - from Greenville, South Carolina - started dating Seth Aaron Fleury in 2016, when he was 21 and she was 17.

She broke up with him after almost a year, because he treated her like "property".

A few weeks later, she met up with him so that he could "right his wrongs" before joining the Navy - but he became violent when she refused to get back with him.

Fleury tried to kiss her, and as Kayla pulled away, he bit her bottom lip so hard it almost completely tore off.

Kayla, now 19, said: "I met him down the street, he had flowers and cards, one about getting back together.

"After reading the cards, he asked: 'Don't you have anything to say?' and I told him I was not there to get back with him.

"He told me to get out, so I did, and he threw everything at the back of my head. Once I got back into my car, my leg was shaking so uncontrollably that I couldn't move.

"I saw him draw a breath and try to kiss me, as I pulled away he clenched down.

"I remember him latching onto me and my body being in shock, I didn't feel any pain apart from the tear and I started screaming.

"He then dragged me by the hair and slammed the door in my face and drove off. It was crazy."
Kayla was left with horrific injuries, and underwent emergency surgery

She says she remembers Fleury 'latching onto her'

Fleury pleaded guilty to assault and battery of a high aggravated nature, and was sentenced to 12 years in jail.

While she's "relieved" he's in prison, Kayla has been left with permanent scarring.

She underwent emergency plastic surgery and received over 300 stitches, and the damage caused by the attack left her with limited movement around her mouth.

She continued: "My surgeon had to cut all around my face and cheeks to bring the two sides of my lip together because it was torn off completely.

"I find myself insecure over the scars, it's very hard as a young woman especially, but I can define my scars or have them define me, they show my story and what I have overcome.

"A piece of me died after the attack, at times I feel a great deal of sadness but now when I think about that day, I know I'm a stronger person today."

To undermine Katherine Bouman's role in the black hole photo, trolls held up a white man as the real hero -- until he fought back

When internet trolls tried to detract from Katherine Bouman's rise to stardom for her part in creating the first image of a black hole, her colleague quickly shut them down.

Bouman, 29, created one of the algorithms that led to the groundbreaking black hole image. She also helped develop the imaging and verification process.

However, a nasty corner of the internet tried to downplay Bouman's role and started spreading posts claiming that Andrew Chael -- a white male scientist -- was actually the mastermind behind the project.

The misleading posts, on Reddit and Twitter, said Chael alone had authored "850,000 of the 900,000 lines of code that were written in the historic black-hole image algorithm!"

    However, the effort quickly backfired.

Though it may have been nice to receive more recognition, Chael immediately took to Twitter to explain that the online trolls had exaggerated his contributions, and he defended Bouman's work. In addition, Chael said that as an openly gay man, he is also an underrepresented demographic in STEM.

"Once I realized that many online commentators were using my name and image to advance a sexist agenda to claim that Katie's leading role in our global team was invented, I felt I should say something to make it clear I rejected that view," Chael told CNN.

    Chael disputed the incorrect posts

"I did not write "850,000 lines of code" -- many of those "lines" tracked by github are in model files," Chael said in his tweets. "There are about 68,000 lines in the current software, and I don't care how many of those I personally authored."

(1/7) So apparently some (I hope very few) people online are using the fact that I am the primary developer of the eht-imaging software library (https://t.co/n7djw1r9hY) to launch awful and sexist attacks on my colleague and friend Katie Bouman. Stop.

    (3/7) the work of many others who wrote code, debugged, and figured out how to use the code on challenging EHT data. With a few others, Katie also developed the imaging framework that rigorously tested all three codes and shaped the entire paper (https://t.co/hgJrv3gOE5);

The Harvard University graduate student also criticized the sexist attacks against his colleague, especially when science is such a male-dominated field.

"While I appreciate the congratulations on a result that I worked hard on for years, if you are congratulating me because you have a sexist vendetta against Katie, please go away and reconsider your priorities in life," Chael wrote.

Chael wrote the code for one of three scripted code pipelines that scientists used to transform telescope data into a coherent image.

He hopes Bouman's story inspires more women to seek out opportunities in radio astronomy.
