Women in his movies are all shrill ice bitches with no senses of humor or wanton cats in heat with absolutely no dignity. Intelligent women (although not many appear in his movies) are punished for having any sort of drive and/or desire.
He views women as lesser human beings. It's not like a nerd or geek who didn't girls in high school. He's like the date rapist jock who always got his way and still hates women and wants to punish them for not being men.

The scene in Superbad with the woman dancing on her period pretty much epitomizes Apatow for me. 40 YO Virgin is slightly different than his other movies in that the main woman is somewhat sympathetic and treated like a human being. I haven't seen Bridesmaids so I can't speak to that.

It's different than other grossout comedy writers who treat men and women with equal disdain. In an Apatow flick, the women are truly hated.

I had the same reaction. And so do all the women who work with him. Weirdly, my mom knew his mom. They used to get their nails did together when he was doing Freaks and Geeks. She's a VERY DOMINANT woman who often discussed his inability to land a woman. My mom was like, I bet that guy has a lot of Mom issues.

But what I will say is that success doesn't necessarily mean his name was huge. He was doing well as a writer before he became critically known as a director.
