I don't feel sorry for the people on his show. That's like being surprised about the Jerry Springer audience not accepting that you're in love with your goat.

I don't feel sorry for them either. I just wonder at the mentality of someone who would go on Stern's show and NOT expect to be made to look like a jackass. It's like people who go on reality tv programs and get shocked when people are competitive and manipulative.

And I knew long ago Jerry Springer was totally faked. Some people from my hometown went on and the story was so outlandish and so completely not true that it revealed the man behind the curtain, so to speak. Same thing with the judge shows. Totally fake.

A bunch of big named celebs have been on his show. They know what is coming, they just don't care, or feel they can simply deny/deflect because that is what they do their whole life and the media usually caters to this all the time. In fact, in that regard, i find it very refreshing because Howard goes places most interviewers don't. He is a great interviewer. He gets people to say things and feel comfortable around him. You actually learn who these celebs are many times and the stories they have are interesting because he gets them to open up. That is what he is best at. He doesn't give some phony/kiss ass interview littered with promotional talking points like every late night, celeb and early morning show does. He actually has many thought provoking interviews with celebs about their life. The balance with this sometimes often heavy material, is of course the sexual potty humor and ribbing of others.

What I don't get about Stern's show is that people go on and honestly think he's not going to fuck with them or make them uncomfortable or insult them? Who thinks that? Who thinks they're the one person he's not going to mock and/or ridicule and/or offend?

For the most part he never does any of that to his celebrity guests. What he does expect of them though, is for them to be held accoutable for their actions. Stern won't shy away from asking the questions Leno, Letterman and the rest of them are too afraid to ask. If you've cheated, had arrests or drug problems etc... He's going to ask you about them. When the celebs that don't want to talk about that stuff and instead just want to promote their new movie or album start to lawyer up, he tells them to gtfo or just ends the interview...

I don't consider that mocking them. Also in many circles he's considered to be one of the greatest interviewers. Once you get past the naked chicks and gross out gags, he's really great at controlling an interview and taking places you would'nt expect it to go.

I watched a Howard Stern episode once where there was a woman trying to win a boob job or something and she was wearing a thong bikini and they slathered her ass in mayo and took turns throwing slices of bologna at it to see how many slices they could get to stick. I laughed until I cried. I find that sort of thing hysterical.
