The RCMP is searching three lakes near Fort Qu'Apelle for a seven-year-old boy whose mother was found dead on a beach near Fort Qu'Appelle on Saturday.

Officers were called to the Fort campground early in the afternoon after reports that a dead woman was found on the beach.

The woman has been identified as 47-year-old Tamaine Geldenhuys.

Geldenhuys' son, Greagan, hasn't been seen since Friday. It's believed he was with his mother shortly before her body was found on Saturday.

At this point, the RCMP said they don't suspect that the woman's death was the result of foul play.

RCMP search and rescue, the Fort Qu'Appelle Fire Department and conservation officers with the Ministry of Environment are involved in the search.

As of 1:50 p.m. CST, the RCMP's underwater recovery unit was searching Echo Lake, Pasqua Lake and Mission Lake.

The RCMP is asking anyone with information about where Greagan is to contact the Fort Qu'Appelle RCMP at (306) 332-2222.

A Facebook group page called Finding Greagan was launched Sunday morning, featuring several more photos of the boy.

Greagan is described as having blond hair and a slim build.

RCMP say search for missing 7-year-old boy now a recovery mission

    By Katelyn Wilson
    Reporter Global News

RCMP say the search for 7-year-old Greagan Geldenhuys is now a recovery mission, as family and friends continue to hold out hope.

?It?s what we are all running on right now- especially the immediate family,? family member, Matthew Nelson said. ?There?s still a chance, so we?re all hoping.?

The young boy was last seen Friday afternoon. Police believe Greagan was with his mother at the beach on B-Say-Tah on Echo Lake, sometime before her body was discovered at 1:45 p.m. Saturday.

?He?s a 7-year-old blonde hair, blue eyed little guy that just likes to be swimming. That?s really where this all started,? his uncle, Darcy Pantel said.

Officers answering a call found the body of 47-year-old Tamaine Geldenhuys, on the beach near the Fort Campground in Fort Qu?Appelle, approximately five kilometers from where their vehicle was discovered near B-Say-Tah beach.

While police haven?t found any evidence to suggest foul play, they won?t confirm the circumstances of Geldenhuys? death. However, the family believes it?s swimming related.

?It wasn?t something foolish- it?s just a tragic circumstance that?s come up and it does appear to be swimming related,? Pantel said.

RCMP are now focusing their search efforts on the water with additional support on standby for a continued ground search if needed.

?This morning our police dogs conducted a ground search in that area at B-Say-Tah, as well as around Echo Lake,? Sgt. Drew Wagner, Fort Qu?Appelle RCMP said. ?Currently, our underwater recovery team is the only effort that?s currently underway.?

The family has also set up their own command centre, with eight teams of around 50 people out searching. A Facebook page called Finding Greagan has also been set up for those looking to help.

?We?ve had friends and family showing up in droves really offering their support however they can- offering boats and there?s people we?ve never even heard of that are offering to help in the search,? Pantel said. ?We probably have four to six boats doing shoreline searches, mostly focusing on Echo Lake- that?s where this all started. As time moves on we will likely move into Mission Lake and the river system as well.?

The investigation remains ongoing as the search continues into the coming days.

Search for missing 7-year-old moves to marshy area
    By Cami Kepke
    Reporter Global News

More than a dozen first responders are canvassing a marshy area on the east end of Echo Lake as the search for Greagan Geldenhuys enters its second week

?We?re just eliminating some possibilities of where Greagan might be,? Fort Qu?Appelle Fire Chief David Sabirsh said. ?We had the Water Security Agency come out here and close the dam off so we didn?t have a high current.?

The seven-year-old has been missing since august 24th, when the body of his mother, Temaine Geldenhuys, was found in the area known as B-Say-Tah beach.

RCMP say foul play is not suspected in Temaine?s death or Greagan?s disappearance. Family members believe it?s a tragic accident stemming from a swimming trip.

Unsettled and murky conditions have made the ensuing search for the boy much more difficult.

?We?ve had some high winds. We?ve had some interesting currents,? Chief Pilot for Amphibious Response Support Unit ONE John Maczko said. ?That was something we noted with both the hovercraft and the dive team.?

RCMP will rejoin the search on Tuesday with using dive teams and sonar. The Underwater Recovery Team requires a certain number of divers present in order to deploy safely, which weren?t available through the weekend.

The RCMP Helicopter is on standby, as is an RCMP boat should the need arise for further searches.

Fisherman at the nearby Calling Lakes Classic are also on high alert as the recovery mission continues. Many of their boats are sonar and GPS equipped, and they have instructions to call RCMP if there?s any sign of Greagan.

Countless volunteers have scoured the shores of Echo Lake, and property owners are asked to check around boat docks and launches.

Maczko?s team will return with a hovercraft Sunday, as crews patrol the east end of the lake and river and double back to areas they?ve searched previously.

?Every day is a new day,? Sabirsh said. ?Something could develop. We?ll continue our shore search and the RCMP are coming back with their dive team on Tuesday.?

While RCMP have now classified this a recovery mission, everyone from volunteer divers to longtime firefighters say they won?t stop until Greagan is found.
