Bellamy Gamboa (39) missing from Virginia Beach, VA since 7/1/18

    http://wset.com/news/local/police-be...d-is-in-danger

Police said Bellamy Malaki Gamboa, who is 5-foot-1, 135 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair is believed to have been abducted and in danger.

According to WRIC in Richmond, her disappearance is suspicious because she has an infant child and hasn't shown up to work.

She has a tattoo of a band of roses on her right arm and 'Bellamy' tattooed on her right ankle.

Police said Gamboa was last seen on July 1.

Call 911 or the Virginia Beach Police Department at 1-757-385-8175 if you see her.

Gamboa was last seen on Sunday night at her apartment on Carrene Drive at the Diamond Springs Apartments. The complex is near the intersection of Diamond Springs Road and Shore Drive.

Police say she left her apartment between 8:30 and 10 p.m.

On Tuesday, police say they found her 2005 gold four-door Ford Focus parked next to a dumpster in a small parking lot on Pickering Street in Lake Edward. The location is about four miles from her apartment.

Lamont Johnson, who lives with Gamboa and is the father of her twin infants, says she left the apartment on Sunday after the two got into an argument. Johnson declined an on-camera interview, but he says he doesn't know where she went.

    I'm kind of side-eying the baby-daddy.

Yep, I screwed up her name. Liv, if you're reading this can you add her first name to the header?

Gamboa's disappearance is only the second time Virginia State Police have activated a critically missing adult alert. The law calling for such action went into effect July 1 and is named for Ashanti Billie, the Prince George's County native who disappeared from Virginia Beach and was later found dead in North Carolina. Last month, the suspect in Billie's murder was diagnosed with schizophrenia and found incompetent to stand trial.

Anyone with information regarding Bellamy's disappearance is asked to call Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (1-888-562-5887).

I feel like most times (not always of course) when the boyfriend says the woman ?left the house after an argument?... it usually turns out to be the boyfriend. Just speculating, of course.

Yeah, I'm going with the boyfriend did it.

I wonder who reported her missing? Her dude said he was concerned and it wasn't like her to abandon her twins but she wasn't reported missing until she didn't turn up to work Monday morning? Right.

I think that's right. She didn't show up for work and that's when everyone got concerned.

Police and EMS searched Lake Edward on Friday. The lake is near where Bellamy's car was discovered on Tuesday. In addition, investigators searched her home on Thursday night. That's where she was last seen.

Bellamy is a mother of four, including two infants. Family members say the children are safe and they're doing everything they can to keep them calm.

Gamboa’s family hired a private K-9 handler Wednesday, according to a Facebook post from her sister, Charisse Gamboa.

As police expand their search to locate a missing mother, her family says text messages reveal she was worried about her safety in the days before she vanished.

More than 200 people, including many strangers, joined the search effort on July 7 and 8 to find Bellamy Gamboa. The mother of four disappeared on July 1.

“She feared for her life,” said Emmanuel Gamboa, her father. “She was absolutely scared.”

Mr. Gamboa didn’t talk specifics with WAVY.com, but he says text messages sent between his daughter and a close friend indicate the 39-year-old was nervous something might happen.

Police say a family member filed a missing person report around 8 p.m. on July 2.[/QUOTE]

Authorities have used boats, drones and helicopters in the search. So far, police say they have found no trace of Gamboa.

"We are keeping our hopes up, but we know time is of the essence,” said Charisse Gamboa, her sister. “Please do not stop looking for Bellamy. Please do not stop caring for Bellamy."

Detectives were looking at new areas to expand their search on Monday, according to Kuehn.

Family members say they continued their efforts by searching near the train tracks behind Gamboa’s apartment.

"Bellamy, if you hear this, we will not stop until we find you.”

If you see Gamboa know anything of her whereabouts, call the Crime Line at 1 (888) LOCK-U-UP.
Yeah, my suspicions about the boyfriend are even stronger now. Also, the fact that he was supposedly so worried and it was out of her character, but yet he didn't report her missing and her family reported her missing speaks volumes to me.

he Federal Bureau of Investigation is now providing resources to the Virginia Beach Police Department in the search for a missing mother believed to have been abducted.

"The FBI is providing investigative and technical assistance through our partnership on the Tidewater Violent Crime Task Force," said Christina Pullen, FBI spokeswoman. "We've been aware and tracking the situation from the beginning, and through our relationship with the task force, have been providing assistance."

Pullen says VBPD remains the lead agency, but the FBI is "providing resources that extend beyond what local police departments generally have."

The Critically Missing Adult (Ashanti) Alert for the 40-year-old Virginia Beach mother who's been missing for more than three weeks has expired.

Authorities are still "actively searching" for Bellamy Gamboa, who's been missing since July 1, but the Virginia State Police say the official Ashanti Alert has expired.

10 On Your Side reached out to State Police, who say the expiration of the alert is due to an administrative policy with the alert system. They say Virginia Beach Police didn't renew the alert, so it expired -- it doesn't mean Gamboa was found, or that the search has been discontinued.

The new alert was just signed into law this year after it was introduced by local Delegate Jerrauld Jones in honor of the late Ashanti Billie.

Lamont Johnson, the ex-boyfriend of missing Virginia Beach woman Bellamy Gamboa, was arrested for her murder Sunday.

Court documents say Johnson confessed to police that he pushed Gamboa down the stairs, fell on top of her and then choked her until she died. Documents say Johnson then put Gamboa in a bag and brought her to Chesapeake.

In 2017, court documents show that both Gamboa and Johnson filed emergency protective orders against each other. The action was taken after two arguments in March took violent turns. Court documents say Johnson pushed Gamboa onto the ground and grabbed her. Johnson claims Gamboa slapped and pushed him. The cases were ultimately dismissed.

Prosecutors in Virginia are expected to bring a man to trial on murder charges, even though his former girlfriend's body was never found.

The Virginian-Pilot reported Saturday that Virginia Beach is working on what could be the 11th bodiless murder case to be tried in Virginia.

The case is against 41-year-old Lamont Johnson. He is charged in the death of Bellamy Gamboa. Police spent $50,000 unsuccessfully trying to find her body in a landfill. A trial date is yet to be set.

uly 16 will now be recognized in the entire state of Virginia as “Bellamy Day,” honoring Bellamy Gamboa, who was last seen at her Diamond Springs Apartment in Virginia Beach July 1, 2018.

Gamboa’s ex-boyfriend Lamont Johnson was arrested for her murder later in the month.

    Bellamy and Charisse Gamboa

According to Gamboa’s family, July 16 is her birthday. The day will represent her story as well as spread awareness of domestic violence.

“Her body was not able to be found, or properly buried,” a Facebook post read. “With that being said, her memory will live on, in her own home state, on the calendar. Her four children will have the opportunity to cherish this during their entire lifetime.”
Without Bellamy being declared dead, Charisse says the family is unable to access the benefits Bellamy set up for her children.

“Bellamy worked her entire young adult life. She dedicated her time and skill and was responsible in making sure her children would benefit if she were to ever leave this life,” said Charisse.

Area insurance companies tell News 3 after a family member dies, it is standard procedure for beneficiaries to file a death claim. In order to do that, beneficiaries need a certified copy of a death certificate.

Without a body, Bellamy’s family says they’re stuck.

That leaves the family with only two options: Wait for Johnson’s case to play out in its entirety in court or hire a civil attorney to help with such a case. Charisse says neither option is ideal for the family, but they are leaning more towards hiring an attorney instead of waiting for Johnson’s case to move through the justice system.

To help with costs for the attorney, canceled travel expenses, prior engagements and the benefit of her children, Charisse says the family is accepting donations on their GoFundMe page, “Justice 4 Bellamy.”

A trial date has been set for the man accused of killing Bellamy Gamboa.

Lamont Johnson will be back in court on March 30. He's charged with second-degree murder.

Last year, Johnson confessed to Gamboa's murder after he was arrested. He allegedly admitted to police he pushed her down a set of stairs, then fell on top of her. He said they then got into a fight and he strangled her. He said her body was then put into a bag and left in a dumpster in Chesapeake.

    Gamboa's body was never found.

Virginia Beach’s first ‘no-body’ murder case set for trial this week

It’s been nearly four years since Bellamy Gamboa was last seen at her home in Virginia Beach.

The 39-year-old mother of four was reported missing in July 2018 after she failed to show up for work at a customs brokerage firm in Norfolk.

Despite a long and intense search — police spent more than $50,000 to excavate portions of a Hampton landfill — Gamboa’s body was never found.

According to testimony at a 2019 court hearing, Lamont Johnson — her ex-boyfriend and the father of her young twins — confessed a few weeks after Gamboa went missing to pushing her down a flight of stairs at the Virginia Beach townhome they shared, then strangling her and tossing her body in a dumpster.

Johnson’s trial on charges of second-degree murder is set to begin Tuesday. The case is believed to be the first murder trial to be prosecuted in Virginia Beach without a body ever being found. It’s expected to last about a week.

The recovery of a homicide victim’s body, and an autopsy report revealing the person’s cause of death, typically are essential pieces of evidence at trial. But they’re not necessarily needed, according to a former federal prosecutor who has tried “no-body cases” and wrote a book about them. Especially when police have obtained a confession, as they say they have in Johnson’s case.

Although Johnson and Gamboa had broken up, they still shared a home with their 1?-year-old twins and two teenage children Gamboa had from a previous relationship.

Johnson, 45, was working as a trade analyst for a Norfolk container transportation and shipping company at the time of his arrest. He’s been held in the city jail without bond since then.

Evidence found on his cellphone and work computer showed both devices had been used to search dumpster locations and garbage routes, a document in his court file said.

Johnson’s public defenders filed motions seeking to have the statements he made to police thrown out, but their requests were denied in a ruling made in August.

Macie Allen, a spokesperson for the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, said Monday that she couldn’t comment on potential trial strategy, evidence, or witnesses that may be called. It’s not known if Johnson plans to testify in his own defense.
