Yes blackmail and extortion has come into play in an unrelated case.

But back to Australia I remember some articles accused 7 people and another article accused 10 people for the Grindr attacks. Sure the headlines sound odd but they get traced back to robbery though.

True especially in the Philippines there was stories that were framed as "Fighting corruption", "Fighting the Bloody Drug issue" but it ended up with the Presidents opposition being killed because the Duterte accused them of Corruption and Drugs.

Especially in India in the recent lynching incidents the murderers tried framing their actions as justified to stop children from being victimized and it turned out to be crazier and global where What's app was accused of spreading fake news that's leading to people being killed in India.

Essentially these cases were thug trying to be somehow righteous but in reality they were willing to be insane in the process though.

Lancaster vigilante helps with arrest, faces child pornography charges

    https://fox43.com/2018/08/03/lancast...raphy-charges/

    Here we Go

"The guy was messaging back and forth for a while, and was like, ?Hey, I want to come meet you here, here, and here.' And you guys saw in the video what happened next.?

The video seen above captures a moment Justin Perry, or Mr. 17540, as he calls himself, has been working for.

?We have looked at everything he?s been doing in the past, and certainly we aren?t going to look over or neglect any potential criminal activity," said Brett Hambright, the Lancaster County District Attorney's spokesperson.

Police arrested 36 year-old Thomas Wise, who you can see in the video, on several counts, including statutory sexual assault.

This is the first arrest in Mr. 17540?s efforts to catch a child predator.

He lures in potential suspects online by posing as a 15 year-old girl.

He then meets them in a public place, and records the entire interaction on FaceBook live.

?These people are out here. We give our phone to our children, like, 'Hey, mommy and daddy need to go do something.' But we?re putting predators in their hands,? said Perry.

But one other arrest was made too?

?I gift wrapped this guy to you and handed it to you. And you do this to me? It shocked me,? said Perry.

Police called Perry in for questioning about Wise, and that?s when they say they made a disturbing discovery on his phone.

?I go in there, they're like, 'Hey we have some concerns about pictures,' and I?m just like, 'What? What are you talking about?'?

Perry is charged with child pornography and criminal use of a communication facility.

But he says he knows nothing about the photos.

?Any picture I?ve ever sent any decoy, it was always a face shot from here up, and that was that. There was no inappropriate pictures my knowledge on that phone,? said Perry.

He says he will continue to be proud of his role in Wise?s arrest, knowing he did nothing wrong.

?The guys in jail right now. He?s in jail. That was because of me. I did that. And no matter what happens, they?re not going to take that away from me. Because I did that,? said Perry.

Despite the arrest, law enforcement officials say they do not condone Perry?s efforts to catch alleged predators, and urge people to leave that kind of work to professionals.

Perry is free awaiting his preliminary hearing.

Every time I see another paedo vigilante in the news, I think of this (there's not actually anything NSFW in it as far as I can recall - other than standard "coarse language & violence")

If your only purpose was busting child predators, you wouldn't be advertising your activities & trying to build a fanbase & product lines (which I'm sure are always advertised as fundraising to support the seller so they can focus on their important community service/paedophile hunting activities).

As far as I can see, these guys are employing classic reality tv formula to maximize their potential audience

& they've got it all : there's good guys vs bad guys, drama drama drama, good guys being unjustly treated by other good guys, bad guys getting their comeuppance, sudden plot changes, cliffhangers, drama & fighting between the main characters & peripheral enemies to keep the audience's attention between major stings.

I don't know if they're doing it intentionally or if this is all unscripted & they genuinely live this way, but either way the result is the same. This shit is more about gaining attention & positive feedback for the guys behind the camera than it is about protecting victims (I have no doubt that they'll angrily deny this if it's ever put to them though)

Police forces struggle to contain digital vigilante groups taking the law into their own hands

    https://inews.co.uk/news/uk/digital-...roups-justice/

. It was impossible this week not to feel sympathy for the vulnerable 49-year-old woman from Bury St Edmunds who was pelted with eggs and flour by a gang of teenagers. Then, when pictures emerged on social media of the four boys posing with their humiliated, cowering victim, sympathy soon turned to anger. Who were these young deviants who thought their behaviour was beyond the law? The attack sent social media into a frenzy, triggering angry calls on Facebook for the boys to be horse-whipped and their ?heads to be ripped from their shoulders?, while the names and addresses of the young men were quickly made public. Plenty of people were so appalled, they wanted to take the law into their own hands. Fortunately for the suspects, the police got to them first and several arrests were made.

But once the forces of vigilante justice have been unleashed, the law of unintended consequences quickly follows. Falsely attributed One man who had the misfortune of sharing the same name and appearance of one of the gang found himself targeted by online commenters, forcing him to publish a statement on Facebook declaring his innocence. The man, who cannot be named, wrote: ?There?s a photo doing the rounds at the moment of a group of young boys harassing an elderly woman in Bury. They?ve been named and shamed and one of them happens to also be called [name redacted]. ?I would just like to clarify I?m not that [name redacted] and THAT?S NOT ME IN THE PHOTO.?

And he pleaded: ?I?m much older than the boys in the photo and now that?s cleared up, I would appreciate it if people stopped messaging me/threatening me about this.? Robin Armstrong, who has achieved a degree of fame by posting bully-shaming videos, told his 750,000 followers he wanted to ?lead the way? in finding the youths. ?You little f***ing nothings have been over to an old woman with disabilities, poured water all over her head and then poured flour all over and stopped for a photograph,? he said. ?That photograph says a thousand things ? I don?t even have to say any words. ?You scummy little wankers. You deserve to have your heads ripped off your shoulders. I?ve got your names now, so I?m going to put your names in the comments and your profiles in the comments. You?re going to be chased out of your city ? hunted down.? The ?Name and shame? campaign Such venomous demands for mob justice were so threatening that the parents of the boys asked for police protection. But the shocking events in Suffolk ? and the immediate naming and shaming on social media ? follow an all-too-familiar pattern. Police forces across the nation are finding their resources stretched as they not only have to contend with the crime but also the public backlash stirred up by online reporting. Yet, in many ways, we have been here before. In 2010, there was a rash of cases where innocent people were harassed and hounded in their communities after the News of the World ran a campaign to ?name and shame? alleged sex offenders. She was forced to flee her house in the middle of the night after vandals daubed it with graffiti. Professor David Wall, of Leeds University, is a criminologist researching crime and policing in the digital era. He argues that the recent rise in the number of so-called paedophile hunter groups has exacerbated the problem of online vigilantism, especially when it comes to sex crimes. Criminal law in the UK does not directly outlaw vigilantism ? but that does not mean these groups are above the law. Paedophile hunters often physically confront the people they believe to be offenders, and false imprisonment, kidnapping, battery, affray and assault are all criminal offences. Vigilante societies Among Britain?s most high-profile vigilante groups are Dark Justice, Guardians Of The North, Silent Justice and Stinson Hunter, but there are believed to be around 70 more across the UK, some of which have links to far-right groups. Prof Wall added: ?Vigilantes certainly succeed in generating confrontations with the men they have targeted, but they also raise worrying questions about how their approach can incite wrongdoing and affect the work of the authorities.? Police chiefs have asked local forces to take tougher action on vigilante groups (Photo: PA) In one court case earlier this year, it emerged that the defendant had been duped into making contact with three separate fake victims, leading to claims that online vigilantism had mushroomed into a ?cottage industry?. Ron Hogg, the Police, Crime and Victims? Commissioner for Durham, where the trial was held, warned that paedophile hunters risked undermining police inquiries. ?Obviously, I?m grateful for the evidence which has led to a conviction in this case, but I don?t think there?s really a place for vigilante groups in policing,? he said. ?Too many times, they can undermine police investigations. I know that the public feels confident to submit evidence to the police so that they can do their job thoroughly and professionally.? Tougher police action National police chiefs are understood to have ordered local forces to take tougher action against vigilante groups if they suspect them of acting outside the law. The guidance, reported to have been issued to forces last year, tells officers to investigate potential harassment, privacy and violent offences committed by the vigilante groups, as well as those they accuse of child grooming. Specifically, officers have been told that vigilante groups have ?little or no consideration? for the safeguarding requirements of the victims of the paedophiles they have outed. Prof Wall warned of other long-term risks of online vigilantism that society may not have fully understood. ?We are not quite at the point where online public involvement in policing starts to mission-creep into a police-spy system, where everybody ends up reporting each other?s behaviour,? he said. ?We must, however, resolve the questions raised by online anti-paedophile vigilantism before it reaches the point where due process and the concept of justice become largely irrelevant.? This argument is similar to a thread I covered where an anti-pedo/ anti-rapist vigilante ends up getting charged with child abuse possession while accusing his target for child rape allegations in a sting operation.

Yes vigilantes like this will end up more insane than even the original victims they claim to be rescuing.

Oh well. If stamping out sin & vice was really his purpose, I guess he's an improvement on the strange men who focus their lives on ridding the world of the evil scourge sex work, like the assorted "Rippers", "Stranglers" & "Killers" of history's serial murder archives.

A similar group is sprouting in Michigan and its playing the Ryan LaForge playbook.

Vigilante groups surface across West Michigan hoping to track down child predators
by Anna Giles | Newschannel 3

Vigilante groups surface across West Michigan hoping to track down child predators. (WWMT/Cyrus Raymond)

    KALAMAZOO, Mich. —
Several community groups have surfaced in the West Michigan area seeking to expose child predators on the internet.

People who track down potential pedophiles say they have the right intentions and many feel they are doing a service, but police say they put themselves and others in a lot of danger.

These groups are actively using social media to spread the word about their stings. They pose as minors on popular social media sites, then track down older men who make contact and try to meet up.

A member of a group called 517 Child Predator Exposures (CPE) was asked why he does participates in these stings. He asked to remain anonymous.

"Law enforcement - they don't have the resources. They don't have the time to do what we're doing. They are looking for the major child porn rings, they are not looking at the guys who are just out there talking with young children," the man said.

He said he is in it to protect children and seek justice.

"Most of your cases of sexual predators that are on the sex offenders list, most of those are like hush-hush cases so people in the community don't know anything about them unless they search the sex offender registry," he said.

At least two other groups have started the predator stings: 989 Child Predator Exposures (CPE) is an affiliate of 517 CPE and Jacktown Against Peds.

All three groups have Facebook pages and post live videos of their stings.

Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting said the practice is unsafe and believes some vigilantes are inspired by television shows.

"There's, also I think, sometimes a frustration that people are getting away with things they shouldn't be getting away with," Getting said.

He said evidence collected by vigilantes is often not able to be used in the courtroom.

"There are always concerns about our ability to move forward in cases that are being directed by someone other than police investigators," Getting said.

The member of the 517 group said he wants to open a chapter for every area code in Michigan.

Police remind these groups that when they confront someone that the situation could quickly turn violent and it is better to involve police in the process of staging a meet up with a potential predator.

    An update

. Charges have been dropped against the self-described vigilante who said he was responsible for a Facebook video that led to a Columbia man being charged with attempted sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl.

Thomas H. Wise, 36, was charged earlier this month with five felonies and four misdemeanors after police said he made sexual solicitations and attempted to meet an undercover adult posing as a girl.

The Lancaster County district attorney’s office did not identify the adult, but Justin Perry, of Leola, told LNP that he was the undercover adult.

Perry filmed the alleged meeting and posted it to his Facebook page where he poses as a young girl who arranges to meet older men and then berates them at the meeting.

Vigilante in Ford Fiesta gets brutal revenge on two men 'trying to steal moped'

    https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-new...rutal-13092833

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...sing-them.html

    Wow

Incredible footage shows the moment a vigilante in Ford Fiesta takes brutal revenge on two thugs trying to steal a moped.

The man is seen reversing his car at high speed into the pair, forcing them both to flee for their lives and crushing their bike.

The clip was captured on a CCTV camera which shows the date as August 6. It was sent to a Facebook page fighting the epidemic of bike theft in Britain but it is not known where in the UK it was filmed.

In the footage, two men on a moped park in a street at night and immediately target a bike to steal.

One of the moped riders, wearing a silver helmet, appears to be trying to take a lock off the bike.

Shortly afterwards, a silver car believed to be a Ford Fiesta, arrives on the scene.

The driver of the vehicle gets out and appears to confront the thieves. One of them, wearing a black helmet and red jacket moves aggressively towards the driver, forcing him back in to his car, which is driven off at speed.

The pair decide to flee on their own bike but before they can get away events take an amazing turn.

One of the men, presumably, spotting the approaching car, sprints away from the scene.

The Fiesta is then seen reversing at speed towards the remaining biker who, spotting it at the last moment, appears to jump out of the way just before the impact with the bike.

The thug desperately tries to pick up the smashed bike but, as the driver emerges from his car, thinks better of it and runs. Finally, the driver is seen inspecting the scene while making a call on his mobile.

All these little vigilante articles might be better in your big vigilante thread? If one of the stories starts getting a lot of replies you could consider making it a specific thread then?

It's just that with so many regular members busy irl right now, there's nowhere near as many death threads being posted there usually is, so it's kind of going to turn into MyVigilanteSpace if each tiny incident gets a new thread started for it

.An MSP has called for urgent talks with police chiefs over what has been claimed is a sudden rise in organised vigilante groups on the streets of Angus.

North East region Conservative MSP Bill Bowman is seeking a meeting with Angus police commander, Chief Inspector David McIntosh after a group of so-called “paedophile hunters” brought chaos to a Forfar street last week.

Glasgow-based members of Wolf Pack Hunters UK carried out what they described as an online “sting” but drew criticism for heavy-handed tactics which shocked nearby families and provoked a large police response.

Following suggestions the vigilantes had been armed with items including a brick, the group posted their own video confirming that had happened, but claiming the item was carried in self defence after threats.

An MSP has called for urgent talks with police chiefs over what has been claimed is a sudden rise in organised vigilante groups on the streets of Angus.

North East region Conservative MSP Bill Bowman is seeking a meeting with Angus police commander, Chief Inspector David McIntosh after a group of so-called “paedophile hunters” brought chaos to a Forfar street last week.

    ? Wolf Pack Hunters UK
Footage posted by Wolf Pack Hunters UK showing the team being escorted out of Forfar.

The incident, which police later confirmed led to a 27-year-old man being arrested at the scene in connection with communications offences not directly linked to the incident, followed recent activities by similar groups in Brechin and Montrose.

Mr Bowman said he will be seeking assurances that Police Scotland is able to deal with the sudden increase in people “taking the law into their own hands”.

“There is a right way to help the police catch criminals,” he said.

“There have been recent sexual offences convictions in Montrose and Aberdeen, which came about after an online group did the investigating but passed the information to police.

“Bussing a squad of shouting, swearing people around, taking the law into their own hands, is not right. You don’t start a fire to draw attention to another fire.

“There are also public safety implications if a ruckus ensues.

“If nine police vehicles are on a street in Forfar on a Wednesday night, they aren’t in Arbroath or Montrose. They may not even be in Dundee if there is an emergency there.”

The MSP said he was also concerned the increasing prevalence of using social media to “shame” suspects might damage any criminal case the procurator fiscal puts together.

A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland take all allegations of online crime seriously, and anything which is reported to us will be investigated thoroughly and appropriately.

“It is important that officers have appropriate time and space to conduct the necessary enquiries.

“This ensures matters are dealt with legally and proportionately while keeping people safe.

“We also take incidents of public disorder which can affect community safety seriously, and will investigate any incidents of threatening or intimidating behaviour which have potential to cause fear and alarm to local communities.”

Chief Inspector McIntosh said: “I can confirm that the incident in Forfar last week is currently under full investigation, and relevant action will be taken in due course should it be deemed necessary.”

Members of the group which took part in Wednesday evening’s Forfar incident were given a police escort out of the town.

They have said they intend to return to the burgh this week to stage a peaceful protest.

The incident and its aftermath have triggered a significant social media reaction.

A statement issued by the group in the wake of the Forfar events said: “My team will not be threatened into not exposing these monsters,

“My team will continue to put ourselves in any situation that’s needs be to ensure sexual predators are jailed and exposed.”

Outrage as vigilante paedophile hunters 'dressed like police' handcuff a suspect in footage streamed live on Facebook Vigilante paedophile hunters have caused outrage after appearing to dress like police before handcuffing a suspect in footage streamed live on Facebook.

The woman and two men were allegedly seen handcuffing a man at a flat in Billingham, County Durham, telling him they were carrying out a citizen's arrest.

The man was said to have been led to the back of a car park and questioned at length about alleged child grooming, before police turned up at the scene.

Cleveland Police confirmed a 20-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of grooming a girl aged under 16 before being released under investigation.

But the style of the raid by the vigilantes was slammed by Guardians of the North and Dark Justice, two other paedophile hunter groups which operate nearby.

The 25-minute long clip - streamed live on Facebook - allegedly begins as three people, who can be apparently seen wearing blue forensic gloves, knock on the door of the flat.

A man allegedly answers and is asked to step outside by a man wearing a black top and what looks like a protective vest, with a radio hanging from it.

Handcuffs apparently hang from his belt, and he can alllegedly be seen to be wearing an earpiece.

The man is then handcuffed and told that the group are carrying out a citizen's arrest. The man in handcuffs then remarks: 'Are you even proper coppers?'

He is led downstairs, still with hands cuffed behind his back, and led to the back of a car park, it was claimed.

The handcuffs are briefly removed before his hands are again allegedly shackled in front of his body, where he is questioned at length about 'child grooming'.

The footage - said to have been hosted on the Innocence Project NW page - was live streamed but has since been taken down.

North East paedophile hunters Guardians of the North said on its Facebook page the video had 'totally shocked our team'.
What is the law on impersonating police?

Impersonating a police officer is an offence in England under section 90 of the Police Act 1966.

It covers impersonating a police officer, making a statement or doing anything to suggest membership of a police force, wearing a police uniform calculated to deceive, and possessing an article of police uniform.

The Crown Prosecution Service says the motive of the defendant should be considered - and prosecutions should be made where the impersonation 'involves a threat to the safety of any person, or to property, or is done with a view to financial gain'.

It told Teesside Live: 'We don't agree with their methods, we work within the law they are going to spoil it for the good teams like ourselves and Dark Justice.'

And fellow North East vigilante group Dark Justice warned that those using handcuffs must be trained, regulated and insured.

A statement on its Facebook page said: 'We don't mind other groups catching people, but don't be idiots about it.'

Vigilante groups have proven controversial, but the work of Guardians of the North and Dark Justice has led to numerous convictions in the North East.

However, Cleveland's Crime Commissioner Barry Coppinger said last year that groups should not receive police training to catch perverts.

A police spokesman said: 'A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grooming a girl under 16 years of age and failure to comply with notification requirements at an address in Billingham on Monday August 20. He has been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.'
A vigilante group has been accused of impersonating the police.

    David Carlson

    https://nypost.com/2018/08/22/vigila...ets-new-trial/

David Carlson should be pardoned for this killing. He went through lots of hero blaming because of this in the Courts.

. An upstate vigilante convicted of killing an accused child rapist will get a new trial, an appeals court has ruled.

David Carlson was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter by an Orange County jury in November 2016, following the fatal shooting of Norris Acosta-Sanchez in 2013.

Prior to the slaying, Acosta-Sanchez admitted to Carlson he?d been on the run since having what he called ?consensual? sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Yet an appellate panel ruled Wednesday that the jurors who convicted Carlson were prejudiced by the prosecutors? use of the term ?statutory rape? during the process of jury selection ? and ordered their verdict overturned.

The judges agreed that ?such a colloquial term may have been misinterpreted by some jurors to mean that the sexual contact between the victim and his alleged victim was consensual, but illegal solely because of the age difference between them.?

Though the killing occurred in upstate Sparrowbush, the case was tried by prosecutors from the Westchester County DA?s office, due to a conflict of interest.

Carlson?s attorneys argued their client, who was enlisted by local police to help catch Acosta-Sanchez, shot the 35-year-old in self-defense after three foiled attempts by law enforcement to arrest him.

Defense lawyer Benjamin Ostrer lauded the reversal.

?I believe it was an attempt by the prosecution to cast their victim in the best light they could,? Ostrer said of their use of the term ?statutory rape? ? despite the fact that Acosta-Sanchez was wanted on a ?violent felony? rape charge.

Carlson was sentenced to five years behind bars in March 2017, but has been out pending appeal on a $500,000 bond.

It was not immediately clear if prosecutors planned to retry the father of three. A Westchester DA spokesman said the decision is under review.

See he killed a fugitive that should be honored. Norris Acosta Sanchez deserved his fate.

I say this person should be pardoned for his actions.

    Congrats

A state appeals panel has voided the manslaughter conviction of an Orange County father who fatally shot a fugitive from Rockland County who had been wanted by Ramapo police on a violent rape charge.

The appellate panel decision dismisses the 2016 trial's verdict against David Carlson based on the judge allowing flawed instructions to some jury members during the panel's selection.

Westchester County prosecutors, who handled the case, said they are reviewing the decision and will decide how to proceed. Prosecutors can retry Carlson or drop the case.

Carlson contended that he acted in self-defense and only wanted to turn Norris Acosta-Sanchez over to authorities when he shot the 35-year-old in self defense on Oct. 11, 2013.

Carlson had learned after a night of drinking that Acosta-Sanchez was wanted by police on a rape charge in Ramapo. The fugitive had been staying in Carlson's summer cabin on his Sparrowbush property near the state border with Pennsylvania.

An Orange County jury convicted Carlson of first-degree manslaughter following a prosecution by the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, which acted for Orange County prosecutors.

While Carlson faced up to 25 years in prison, Orange County Judge Robert Freehill sentenced him to the minimum of five years. Carlson claimed he shot Acosta-Sanchez after he attacked him as he led the man to authorities at gunpoint.

Carlson has been free on $500,000 bail pending the appeal since Nov. 14, his attorney, Benjamin Ostrer, said Thursday.

"This case is a tragedy but we're certainly happy for David and his family," Ostrer said. "We will see what the future holds. A lot depends on what the Westchester District Attorney's Office decides."

Ostrer said the prosecutor erred by misleading the first six jurors chosen that Acosta-Sanchez faced what's commonly known as a statutory-rape charge, which doesn't exist under the law. The charge is third-degree rape for having sex with a minor incapable of consent.

The appellate panel said five jurors had been seated the first day of jury selection and one other on the second day. The prosecutor used the term "statutory rape," the panel said.

The judge instructed the prosecutor not to use the term "statutory rape" after the second day and attempted to correct the error with the potential jurors being questioned.

Ostrer argued that the first six jurors had already been chosen and could not receive the court's curative instructions, and he sought a mistrial. The judge denied his request.

"Some jurors received improper instructions," Ostrer said. "We raised other issues on appeal."

The appeals judges ruled that Carlson preserve his rights "of whether the jury pool was prejudiced by the prosecutor's repeated use of the term 'statutory rape' during the jury-selection process and the County Court's failure to provide the entire jury pool, including those already seated and sworn, with curative instructions."

A grand jury had indicted Carlson in February 2015, the second time he had been indicted in the case.

He was originally indicted a few days after the shooting. A judge had dropped the initial charges in November 2014 because he said Orange County prosecutors compromised the grand-jury presentation by failing to mention Carlson's claims about feeling threatened by Acosta-Sanchez.

For several months prior to his death, Acosta-Sanchez had been living in a cabin adjacent to the defendant's rural farm in Deerpark.

After a night of drinking, Acosta-Sanchez told Carlson he was using an alias and there was a warrant for his arrest in connection with the rape of a minor.

Carlson then worked with local police who "set up" a traffic stop to capture Acosta-Sanchez.
