Kids Pig Out on Free Samples, Get Sick in School
YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. (AP) -- About 30 students at Lakeland's Copper Beech Middle School got sick when they pigged out on free samples of a meal replacement drink Wednesday.
The cafeteria was not a pretty sight as students began vomiting after drinking two, three and four bottles of the Bravo low-fat milk drink. Lakeland School Superintendent Kenneth Connolly said the drink is not harmful, but the free samples were left unattended and the students took more than they should have.
The Westchester Department of Health was called to investigate the incident, but Connolly said the students only had upset stomachs. Connolly said the kids drank two to four of the bottles and another who drank just one got sick when they also had their regular lunch.
Connolly said the school is changing the way it introduces new products in its schools to include more supervision. He adds no new products will be introduced this year.
