Carmella Fleming is an Italian-American disabled queer lesbian poet and activist. She is living with a connecective tissue disease and severe PTSD in Los Angeles after residing in the East Bay, which had been her home for 6 years. Carmella and her mother are currently in need of getting some basic needs met.
Carmella has advocated for fair and humane health care all her life while continuously being misdiagnosed and abused by her providers and father. Carmella's mother, Gail, moved in with her after deciding to take legal action against the lifetime of financial abuse they have endured from family members. It has become difficult to get public assistance, as this financial abuse includes being claimed as dependents while withholding money. Carmella also was a victim of the financial abuse Wells Fargo enflicted on many of their clients, deeming her credit useless.
Carmella also happens to be my best friend of 11 years. She has been incredibly resourceful and fearless throughout her life. She has previously worked in direct care facilities and has always advocated for others. She has been a prominent voice in her communities as a poet and good friend to many. She is caring for her mother and helping other family members who have been abused by their father. These difficult times have only fueled her fire. She plans on eventually attending law school to reform health care and defend those who have gone through the trauma she has.
Carmella is asking her community for help. She says even $2 would help! Many of these needs are aiding in documentation in order to proceed with legal action against her health providers and father as well as getting her financially caught up.
