An Alabama man convicted of killing his webcam model wife by beating her with a Lucid Absinthe bottle - and was exposed by a health app on his iPhone - has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.

William Jeffrey West, 47, - a trained crime scene investigator - was sentenced on Monday over the 2018 death of his 42-year-old wife Kathleen Dawn West. The former Birmingham-Southern College campus officer was facing a maximum of 20 years in prison.

West will get credit for the three years he has spent in jail since his arrest after being convicted in November of his wife's reckless manslaughter.

Kathleen was found dead on the street outside the couple's home in Calera, about 30 miles south of Birmingham, back on January 12 2018.

She was found wearing only a pink bra by a passing motorist on their way to work outside the house.

Her husband killed her with a blow to the back of the head from the liquor bottle, prosecutors said.

Jeff West's defense lawyers argued she died in an accidental fall after a night of heavy drinking.

She was a stay-at-home mother who lived a double live as a 'camgirl'.

Kathleen publicly posted lingerie photos online and charged viewers $15.99 to see more revealing images.

Prosecutors claimed that an argument erupted at some point because Jeff West was 'fed up with this Instagram stuff', according to Al.Com

However, the defense told jurors during opening statements that her adult pictures - posted under the name 'Kitty Kat West' - did not cause discord between the couple and that her husband assisted her.

West claimed he went to bed at 10.30pm and only discovered his wife had been killed the following morning.

Prosecutors, however, presented the jury with evidence contradicting West's claims.

They revealed data taken from his iPhone Health app showed he had taken 18 steps between 11.03pm and 11.10pm - when he was apparently sleeping.

This was a key argument from the prosecution that led to his conviction by the jury

His fingerprints were also found on the Absinthe bottle.

Her death occurred, prosecutor Daniel McBrayer said when a drunken argument over her sexual social media posts erupted.

'He grabs her phone and chucks it out the front door where it lands in the street.'

McBrayer said that Kathleen West then went outside to retrieve the phone only in the pink bra.

It is then that that Jeff West hit her on the back of the head - wielding the Absinthe bottle like a club.

'This marriage was not in a good place,' said McBrayer said during last year's trial. 'This was a relationship on the rocks.'

Crime scene investigators testified Jeff West's fingerprints were found on the bottle - and that it was held upside down, indicating he was holding it by the bottle's 'throat' rather than its base.

Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences pathologist Dr. Stephen Boudreau said he did not believe the two-inch wound on the back of her head could have been caused by a fall.

'Whatever it was had an edge, but it wasn't sharp,' he told the court of the object that caused her death.

The prosecution stated that Jeff West is a trained crime scene investigator and a 21-year veteran with the US Army.

Prosecutors Daniel McBrayer and Ben Fuller said that he arranged the crime scene to try and make it appear she had wandered out of their home drunk during the night and had been stuck by a car.

The court heard how the couple had shared a date night before her death and on the way home stopped at a liquor store to buy a bottle of Jameson whiskey and the bottle of Absinthe.

The Wests drank to excess and then Jeff West's phone showed he took two photos of his wife in a pink bra, pink multi-colored panties and punk stiletto shoes.

The judge rejected pleas from couple's 15-year-old daughter, Logan West, during the hearing to set her father free.

'He has always been my shield against the world,' she told the judge. 'Please give me my father back as soon as possible.'

During the sentencing, Shelby County Circuit Judge Bill Bostick told West, an Army veteran, that he had plenty of opportunities to accept responsibility for his wife's death.

'For your own reasons you don't intend to do that so the jury had to do that for you,' he said.

West's mother, Sue West, and mother-in-law, Nancy Martin, who has publicly supported West since his arrest, testified on behalf of the man.

Martin said the verdict against her son-in-law was a total shock.

'We have lost a daughter. Their daughter does not need to lose a father,' Martin said.

That is absolutely crazy, but I am so glad they got him.

I get the intention of what they are saying, but c'mon. Do you really want this thug raising your granddaughter after he viciously murdered your daughter?
