Wow. I lived there for a while, just left earlier this month. I hope that he's found, but a lot of missing people end up in the river.

A biography has been released on the missing victim given that Taliaferro was well known to San Francisco Area talk show fans.

Legendary Bay Area radio broadcaster Ray Taliaferro has been reported missing in Kentucky.

According to a KFVS report, the Massac County Sheriff’s Department says Taliaferro — now a resident of that Illinois county — was last seen Nov. 10 in nearby Paducah, Kentucky.

According to the missing person flier, “Ray was last seen talking with the manager of the Mellow Mushroom pizza restaurant in Paducah. He may be experiencing disorientation and signs of dementia.”

San Francisco native Taliaferro, 79, became the nation’s first black talk-show host for a major market radio station (KNEW AM 910) in 1976. According to Bay Area News Group archives, his long r?sum? also includes heading the city’s chapter of the NAACP and being named the city’s first black member of the arts commission.

For years, starting in 1986, the liberal Taliaferro commanded the Bay Area’s overnight airwaves, hosting the KGO Newstalk AM-810 show from 1 to 5 a.m. In a 2011 interview, colleague Ronn Owens called Taliaferro a “total pro” who “knows how to stir things up in the overnight hours to create a superb listening experience.”

Owens added: “What his listeners don’t know is he is a total gentleman, a patron of the arts, an unbelievably giving person.”

    Here is an update

Former KGO-810 radio broadcaster Ray Taliaferro, who remains missing after last being seen Nov. 10 in Paducah, Kentucky, drove away from his wife in a rental car, a new report says.

Taliaferro and his wife of six months were in Kentucky looking at property she had inherited, KRON-4 reported. His wife told police that at one point she turned around and Taliaferro had driven off in their rental car. Various reports said he was last seen six hours later and 12 miles away in Paducah, talking to the manager of the Mellow Mushroom pizza restaurant, part of an Atlanta-based chain.

Both the Massac County Sheriff’s Department in Illinois, which is leading the missing-person investigation, and the Paducah City Police Department told this news organization that they are continuing to search for the longtime San Francisco resident.
Here are some things to know about Taliaferro and the search for him:

A family spokesperson confirmed that Taliaferro still has a residence in San Francisco but is currently living in Illinois.
As of Sunday, Taliaferro’s son, Raphael, told this news outlet that he had been in touch with authorities but had no updates by the end of the weekend.
Former KGO colleague Brian Copeland tweeted that “Ray has been battling dementia for a while so he may not be certain where he is.”
Taliaferro told this news organization in 2011 that he grew up in San Francisco’s Hunters Point neighborhood.
He had served as president of the San Francisco Arts Commission, Leukemia Society and the San Francisco chapter of the NAACP.
KGO colleague John Rothman told this newspaper that “millions of people spent the night with Ray Taliaferro Monday through Friday 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. You couldn’t miss Ray Taliaferro. His wonderful commitment to human rights, his wonderful commitment to San Francisco and his wonderful commitment to people.”
KRON-4 called him a “legend,” and KGO Radio host Pat Thursday said that Taliaferro had “a heart of gold.”
In 1967, he became the nation’s first black talk-show host for a major market radio station, at KNEW AM 910.
He was inducted into the National Association of Black Journalists Hall of Fame in 2011.
Taliaferro joined KGO Radio in 1977 and co-hosted KGO-TV’s AM Weekend program.
Taliaferro’s night-time talk show mostly featured discussions about political issues affecting California and the nation.
A progressive Democrat, Taliaferro became one of the most prominent left-wing talk show hosts in the country.
His shows sometimes featured poetry and music.
An accomplished musician, he conducted the Ray Tal Chorale and served as director of music for the Third Baptist Church.
If you have any information about Taliaferro’s whereabouts, contact the Massac County Sheriff’s Department at 618-524-2912 or the Paducah Police Department at 270-444-8548.

I can't post a picture, but that's not far from the Ohio River. I think in order to get to the river you have to go through the leevee walls. He's in the Ohio. Paducah isn't that bad of a town. I need to see who his wife is.

Here is another report Ray Taliaferro was seen at a church prior to his disappearance

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX) – Two weeks after he apparently vanished in Kentucky, the whereabouts of an iconic Bay Area radio talk show host remain a mystery.

New surveillance video shows the last time Bay Area radio legend Ray Taliaferro was seen in public. On the evening of November 10th, he knocked on the door of a church in Paducah, Kentucky, and spoke to the music director.

The video shows him talking for about 15 or 20 minutes

Award-winning journalist Bryan Monroe is a friend of Taliaferro’s family. He spoke to the church music director seen in the video with Taliaferro, who told him the retired radio host seemed confused.

“He seemed a little disoriented, but explained who he was; he said that he was a prominent San Francisco Bay Area radio host and was very talkative,” said Monroe. “He tended to repeat himself a few times. They stood by the door and chatted for a bit. And then he left at 5:01 p.m. on Saturday, Nov 10. That was the last time Taliaferro was seen.”

The longtime Bay Area radio host was a mainstay on KGO News Talk Radio 810 beginning in the late 1970s through his retirement from radio in 2011. Taliaferro is a broadcasting trailblazer, the first African-American major market radio talk show host in the country.

He was a leading voice among progressives and often focused on political issues affecting the U.S. and the state of California on his talk show. His family told authorities he had become forgetful lately.

Monroe said when Taliaferro disappeared, he was out of state in Bridgeport, Illinois — near the Kentucky border — visiting a property that his wife’s family owns. He drove off in their rental car shortly before the two were set to leave town.

At around 11:30 a.m., he crossed into nearby Paducah, Kentucky and stopped at a branch of Independence Bank and spoke to a clerk.

When the bank closed at noon, he went across the street to the Mellow Mushroom Pizza Parlor where he briefly chatted with the manager.

Hours later at around 4:45 p.m., he knocked on the doors of the West End Baptist Church.

The Massac County Sheriff’s Department told KPIX there have been no leads on Taliaferro’s disappearance. Monroe says the family remains hopeful.

They’re optimistic, said Monroe. Hopefully he’s on a bus to SF or asleep on a kind stranger’s couch in Paducah.

In this report the wife has been identified as the person talking to investigators.

MASSAC COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The search for a missing 79-year-old man in Massac County stretches into its 17th day.

According to the Massac County Sheriff’s Office, Raphael “Ray” Taliaferro was last seen on November 10, 2018 near the Mellow Mushroom restaurant in Paducah.

He and his wife were in the Heartland to look at some family property near Brookport, Illinois.

That’s why the Massac County Sheriff’s Office is leading the search.

Deputies were looking for Taliaferro on foot on Wednesday, Nov. 28 in the areas near where his car was found parked.

Massac County Sheriff Ted Holder says he may have left the area and could be making his way back to California. Sheriff Holder says his office has reached out the FBI field offices in Marion and San Francisco for help in the search.

He is described as 5′10″ tall, 180 pounds, light black skin, with white/grey hair and a mustache.

He was last seen wearing a black leather jacket, black turtleneck and black pants.

His wife, Charlotte Crawford, said he has “forgetful spells”.

Bob Butler, the past National President of National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), is a long-time friend of Taliaferro.

“He’s one of those people that when you think of Bay area talk radio and you mentioned the name Ray Taliaferro people know who you are talking about because everyone used to listen to him at one time or another," he said.

Butler went through his accolades back in San Francisco.

“He was former President of the NAACP here, former Board President of the Leukemia Society," he said. "I mean very accomplished man. The fact that we don’t know where he is , is very troubling to a lot of us here in the Bay area.”

Massac County Sheriff Ted Holder says Taliaferro’s wife reported him missing 17-days-ago.

“It is a concern especially for somebody his age, if he has no phone or credit cards to get around. he’s got cash,” said Holder.

Six days later on Friday, Nov. 16, the Sheriff’s office received more information.

On that Wednesday, the Independence Bank noticed the car. They reported it on that Friday.

Sheriff Holder explained Taliaferro’s last whereabouts.

“It appears now he was seen at the bank across from the Mellow Mushroom, talked to some people in the bank. He went to the Mellow Mushroom and talked to some people," Holder said. "Then probably the last person that actually saw him that we know of right now is Mr. Henry at the West End Baptist Church.”

Brian Henry is the Director of Music at the church that a half of a mile from the Mellow Mushroom.

He explained Taliaferro went to the front white doors of the church on 28th Street first. Henry directed him to the back because he did not have the key.

“My wife and I were here at the church working when a gentleman came to the back door here and knocked on the door," Henry said. “It’s not unusual for someone to come by when cars are here, so I let him and he introduced himself as Ray Taliaferro, and proceeded to tell me his life story. He kept repeating ... ‘I’ve lived a very interesting life,' he’s said that several times.”

Taliaferro was also in nice clothes and was “well-kept”, Henry said.

The former radio host stayed and talked for about 15 minutes, according to Henry.

Butler said he believes Taliaferro’s actions to be very unusual.

“Even the friends he has here [in San Francisco] would say that would be very uncharacteristic of Ray," Butler said. "Whenever he would do something he would want people to know about it. Everyone here is hoping that he is fine and he’s going to show up one day because to think otherwise we don’t even want to think about that.”

I find the mention in the article Blighted shared associated with the son being unable to get in contact with his father's wife to be interesting. They have not been married that long. Not throwing shade at the wife right now, but things are a bit odd.

I think the wife may have been interested in his money, but I don't think she killed him. He was spotted alone by several people, some of which he actually talked to. I think he wandered into the woods and died from exposure/hypothermia.

This article starts with Ronn Owens (KGO-AM Host) talking about Ray Taliaferro's life in San Francisco then goes to the latest in the death investigation.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- KGO radio host Ronn Owens recalled a fond memory of his longtime colleague and friend Ray Taliaferro during an interview with ABC 7 News on Monday. For years, the two men raised millions of dollars for the leukemia society on ABC 7 News.

"He was really a professional, quality guy from A to Z," Owens said. "It's tough to use the word was."

Taliaferro was found dead in a wooded area in Paducah, Kentucky by two teenagers on Sunday. His son Raphael received the news an hour before he got to town to look for his father.

"He shouldn't have died by himself, in the cold, in the dirt," Raphael Taliaferro said.

According to police, Taliaferro and his new wife were looking at a property in southern Illinois on November 10th when he disappeared.

He showed up in Paducah, Kentucky that same day. Taliaferro then stopped at a bank, a pizza shop and finally a church- where he was last seen.

Police said his wife didn't initially tell them her husband was suffering from dementia, so there was no silver alert.

"That's a red flag there, but then again she could be scared," Raphael Taliaferro said.

"Normally if someone reports someone missing and says they were diagnosed with Dementia or Alzheimer's, some type of thing like, that automatically makes it a heightened response," Massac County Investigator Chad Kaylor said.

Police said the FBI is involved in the case because it crosses state lines and that Taliaferro's body did not have any obvious signs of trauma.

Taliaferro's son said the couple's marriage license was found in the rental car his father parked outside the bank. The two were married in June.

Taliaferro was 79 and his wife is in her 50's. Neither Taliaferro's son nor police have heard from his wife recently.

"I think there's a concern about who she is," Raphael Taliaferro said. "Nobody knows her, or some of the decisions she's made in this whole situation."

Police say it's too early in the investigation to treat the case as anything but a death investigation. The autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.

Here is the latest on the Death investigation on Taliaferro

Foul play does not appear to have been a factor in the death of longtime KGO radio host Ray Taliaferro, whose body was discovered Sunday in the Kentucky town where he went missing on Nov. 10, authorities said.

Police in Paducah, Kentucky, issued a news release sharing initial results from an autopsy performed Tuesday, but they noted that the report has not been finalized.

“Preliminary autopsy results confirm Paducah police detectives’ initial findings that foul play is not indicated in the death of Ray Taliaferro,” the release said. “Exposure to the elements may have been a factor in the California man’s death.”

Taliaferro, a 79-year-old resident of San Francisco, had not been seen since Nov. 10, when his wife of six months reported him missing to the Massac County Sheriff’s Office in nearby southern Illinois.

The pair was visiting a property that his wife, Charlotte Crawford, had inherited in Brookport, Illinois. Police and a family spokesperson both said that Taliaferro and Crawford were preparing to leave the property in a rental car together, when she went to the rear of the house to check on a window.

When she returned, the car and Taliaferro, who may have been suffering from a memory issue, were gone.

His body was found Sunday by two teenagers in a wooded area of Paducah, about a mile from where he was last seen, police said.

Brian Laird, assistant police chief in Paducah, told this news organization Monday that when Taliaferro’s body had been found, it appeared it had been there for a period of time.

“There were some leaves around him and on him to indicate he wasn’t recently placed there, or that it had been within the last day or two that he had appeared there,” Laird said.

On the afternoon of Nov. 10, the day he was reported missing, Taliaferro was seen walking in Paducah, which is just a short drive away across the Ohio River from Brookport.

He spoke with employees of local businesses and restaurants in Paducah, some of whom said they were concerned about his mental state, as Taliaferro repeatedly introduced himself.

On Nov. 16, authorities found the rental car he and his wife had been using, after employees of the bank Taliaferro had visited on Nov. 10 noticed it parked outside the next week and called police. Investigators found Taliaferro’s cell phone in the car.

Local authorities also requested assistance in the missing person case from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in late November, according to an FBI spokesman.

Brad Ware, a media representative for the FBI, said Monday that agents from an Illinois field office were sent to the Massac County area of Illinois and Paducah on Nov. 29 to do interviews and assist in the case. Ware said the FBI likely won’t be involved any further, unless results from the autopsy warrant it.

The liberal Taliaferro hosted the KGO Newstalk AM-810 show from 1 to 5 a.m. for decades, starting in 1986.

According to Bay Area News Group archives, he was also the head of the local chapter of the NAACP and was the first black member of San Francisco’s arts commission.

Taliaferro was inducted into the National Association of Black Journalists Hall of Fame in 2011.

Police said their investigation is continuing, and that more information will be released as it becomes available.

That's definitely the most likely scenario since he seems to be the one who left the vehicle at the bank. I always leave a little bit of space for sceptism though after all those cases of carers deliberately leaving disoriented or disabled family members to die of exposure.

Now Raphael Taliaferro goes on KGO-AM to talk about how the leadup of Ray Taliaferro went missing.

“When Charlotte Crawford made the report, she had an opportunity to say that the car was stolen so they could find the car or she could have also gotten a ‘Silver Alert’ saying that he had severe dementia. She did neither of the two,”
For about a month, the Bay Area has been trying to comprehend what happened to Ray Taliaferro, a great talk show host for years on KGO Radio. He went missing in Paducah, Kentucky where he went with his wife of six months to inspect a property she had inherited. Ultimately, he was found dead in a ditch. Foul play has been ruled out, but we also learned he had dementia for the last five years. With many people asking many questions, today’s report was an interview with Ray’s son, Raphael, who just returned from Kentucky and who, not satisfied with the way this investigation has been handled, has hired a private detective to find out everything.
