Tess Richey (22) had been missing for four days when her mother found her body

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toront...chey-1.4422387

    Snipped from the link:
Richey, 22, was last seen in the Church and Wellesley area around 3 a.m. Saturday during a night out with an old friend from high school.
Rachel Richey said her sister left her house, which is not far from the Church Street strip, around 11:30 p.m. Friday and headed out for the night.
Rachel messaged Tess around 8:45 a.m. Saturday, but didn't hear back. While Rachel thought that was strange, she figured her sister was sleeping.

"I tried consistently throughout the day and it wasn't until 6 or 7 o'clock that I realized that she hadn't answered any of the text messages and they actually hadn't been delivered. When I tried calling it went straight to voice mail," Rachel said.

Ryley Simard said she and Tess, friends in high school back in North Bay, had not seen each other in two-and-a-half years, but talked on Thursday and made plans for the next night. The pair went to Crews & Tango, a drag bar on Church Street.

They left sometime after 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Simard said, and they'd had a lot to drink. They walked to a home on nearby Dundonald Street, where they hung out on the porch with the woman who lives there and another, unidentified, man.

Simard did not remember how they met the woman or man.

Simard said she got a text from her boyfriend around 4 a.m. asking where she was and asking her to come home. She walked south to get on the College streetcar.

Her last memory of Tess is seeing her outside the home. It wasn't clear why police said Richey was last seen at 3 a.m., but Simard said she left the group at 4.

Tess's family said the last contact they had with her was an update at 3 a.m. from her FitBit, which marked her step count, and then a series of 4 a.m. messages from Uber to their mother's phone, which suggested she had ordered a ride but then it was cancelled. It was unclear whether Tess or the driver cancelled the trip.

Tess's Uber account was set up with her mother's credit card.

Tess's family also expressed concern Monday that their little sister was left alone in the company of strangers when she was drunk. While she is a runner and fit, she is only about 115 pounds, they said, and petite. The sisters and their mother all knew to go out in groups and stay with friends for safety, Jenna Richey said.

Police say Tess Richey is 5'2" with a thin build, dark-brown eyes and dark-brown wavy hair. She was last seen wearing a green army-style jacket with zippers, black leggings and black over-the-knee heeled boots, and was carrying a multi-coloured Roots bag.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-4100 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.

    Found her....RIP

ETA: Today is her 23rd birthday

A Toronto woman who went missing over the weekend was found dead downtown, Toronto police say.

Toronto police Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook said police were called to the area of Church St. and Dundonald St. Wednesday afternoon after someone reported finding a body.

The deceased was identified as Tess Richey, 22, who went missing Saturday. She was last seen in the area of Church St. and Wellesley St. E. around 3 a.m.

The cause of death is still unknown, Douglas-Cook said. Police are investigating

Toronto Police confirmed Richey was found dead near Church and Wellesley streets at about 4 p.m. Wednesday ? not far from where she vanished four days earlier after a night out at a bar with an old friend from her high school days in North Bay.

?There is nothing at this point to indicate her death was suspicious,? Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook said Thursday, adding the homicide unit had not been called.

She said the investigation is ongoing and no further details will be released until an autopsy is conducted.

However, a source told Postmedia her death is expected to be ruled a death by misadventure.

Richey?s body was discovered at an abandoned building at Church and Dundonald streets, just north of Wellesley, and the source said it appears she fell down some stairs after a night of drinking.

Update: Death of Tess Richey ruled a homicide, police say 'neck compression' was cause of death

    And there's more:

Her mother found her body on the street, not police. Toronto police reviewing officer conduct after missing woman found dead

“No mother should find their own child,” Richey’s mother Christine Hermeston wrote in a since-deleted Facebook post. “Not one cop searched the area where she was last seen and had they immediately checked after given the address she may have been still alive, there may have still been a chance.”

Police now say they believe Richey was in the company of an "unknown" male when her friend left the area.
Investigators are looking to identify the male, who they say would have been with Richey between 2 a.m and 5 a.m. in the area of Wellesley Street and Dundonald Street, police said in a release Sunday. The male is described white with a slim build, light-coloured short hair and between five feet seven inches and six feet — "taller than the deceased."

She was apparently found outside this building, near a set of stairs?

A lot of missing people from this area....

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toront...case-1.4431982

While the investigation into Richey's death remains ongoing, news of her death has sent many in the community reeling and raising questions about whether police are doing enough to investigate not only her death but a string of missing persons cases connected to the area.

Since last spring, six people have gone missing in the downtown core, not including Richey, according to police records:

Selim Esen, 44, disappeared on April 16 from Bloor and Jarvis streets.
Andrew Kinsman, 49, went missing on June 26 from Parliament and Winchester streets.
Alloura Wells, 27, disappeared in July near Bloor Street East and Rosedale Valley Road.
Chase Kincaid, 30, vanished on Aug. 11 from Yonge and College streets.
Troy Mussington, 27, went missing on Aug. 30 from Jarvis and Gerrard streets.
Francis Doyle, 54, vanished on Oct. 25 from Jarvis and Gerrard streets.

I bet she was killed by some guy if she was really working as an escort (the comments in that article denies it though) or a 'friend', he probably let her in the stairs to make it look like an accident. It's a shame that her mother found her body, poor mom indeed

Damn! The friend went from saying she drank a lot and remembering texting her boyfriend and leaving the three people to go home, to I was drinking at the bar, boyfriend texted, I don't remember leaving them. I am not trying to be an ass but as a friend I would never ever leave my friend with people they didn't know after drinking myself into a dither. Then again maybe Tess knew the guy and the friend felt okay. I still wouldn't.

    RIP Tess.

Tess Richey (22) Found Murdered In An Alley

    http://canoe.com/news/local-news/tes...e-9ecaa27e62e6

TORONTO ? Toronto Police have charged a man with second-degree murder in the death of Tess Richey.

Richey, 22, went missing from the Church and Wellesley Sts. area on Nov. 25, 2017.

On Sunday around 11 p.m., Kalen Schlatter, 21, was arrested in Toronto near his residence in the west end of the city. He appeared in court on Monday morning.

Richey?s mother found her body at the bottom of a stairwell outside a building on Church St. at Dundonald St. on Nov. 29. An autopsy concluded she died of neck compression.

In December, police released images of a man they believed was with Tess when she vanished. Police say the accused is the same man.

Det.-Sgt. Graham Gibson said Monday that Schlatter, who works as a contractor, came to their attention ?fairly early on in the investigation.? They believe he and Richey met for the first time the night she died.

Police said they do not yet have a motive for the slaying.

The autopsy revealed that the cause of death was a neck compression.

In an odd twist, it appears as though Kalen Schlatter actually stopped an attack back in August, this is from his mother's Facebook page:

And a news article about the incident complete with an interview WITH Kalen (his face is blurred)

Small update: This is the only pic floating around of the Kalen Schlatter, it's a couple of years old and from his friend's Facebook photos.

Dude doesn't seem to have a trace of social media, which seems very odd for a 21 year old nowadays.

Yeah I tried finding him and couldn?t find a thing...I?m very curious to find out the motive..when I watched the interview with him from the previous post, he struck me as kinda on the feminine side...definitely not what I expected the killer to look like, but I do know looks can be deceiving

I can't get over the fact that her own mother found her body four days later. Glad they caught the guy.

I wonder if the other SIX missing people from the same area are connected to this case?
    How sad.
    She was just a kid.

I'm not sure this kid is a serial killer, however Bruce McArthur IS a serial killer in that same area who was just caught.

When I saw this photo, the first thing I thought was, "He doesn't look like a murderer."

Then I reminded myself that most people don't.

Poor Tess 😔 I hope her family get some justice.

He looks like he could be a Norman Bates bobblehead. His head is way to big for his body.
