Remember, guns keep us safer and you can always tell who is a responsible gun owner because they will tell you they’re responsible.

It shows the crime scene tape and you see just how close to a house it was.
This guy may have been trying to shoot a deer, but his aim was directly at a house.

Was that her house or his?
I can't believe he hasn't been charged with anything. It wasnt an open field or heavily wooded area, it was a regular yard.
I have a family member who lives near woods, and hunters have been spotted on her property, I'm afraid this is going to happen to her.
I am convinced he shot her on purpose, with the idea that he would blame it on a hunting error. He knows he will probably get away with it in a heavy pro-hunting area. Hell, he hasn't even been charged with the obvious laws he broke at this point.
The husband said the wife took the dogs in the field right beside their house. And he also said that he was alerted when he saw the ambulance pull up. He was able to ride with them, so I think the yellow house is their house.
The shooter did not have the property owners permission to hunt there. and it was after dark- which is an illegal time to hunt in NY. I think he was a poacher.
Here's a map of the area.

A hunter who fatally shot a neighbor out walking her dogs after sunset but who claimed he mistook her for a deer was charged on Thursday with manslaughter and hunting after hours.

It looks like they dropped the manslaughter charge but are allowing the state to present to another grand jury.
