Florida to seek death penalty in Seminole Heights serial killings

Prosecutors will seek the death penalty against a 24-year-old man suspected of randomly killing four people and terrorizing a Florida neighborhood for several months.

Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren made the announcement during a news conference on Tuesday morning, saying the death penalty is "for the worst of the worst."
Warren said the victims were killed in a "cold and calculating manner." He thanked the victims' families for consulting with his office as the decision on the death penalty was made. He said some family members favored the death penalty, while others preferred a life sentence. But he said all were OK with his choice to pursue capital punishment.

Parents of Florida murder suspect placed on house arrest

The parents of a suspect in the random shooting deaths of four people have showed up late for a civil contempt hearing in Florida and have been placed on house arrest after refusing to cooperate with prosecutors.

Circuit Judge Mark Wolfe ordered the confinement of Howell Donaldson Jr. and Rosita Donaldson on Friday. Their 24-year-old son, Howell Donaldson III, is charged with four counts of first-degree murder in the October and November shootings of four people in Tampa's Seminole Heights neighborhood.

Assistant State Attorney Jay Pruner said Florida law doesn't give parents privilege against testifying against a child. The Tampa Bay Times reports he suggested home confinement as an alternative to jail.

    Interesting...
I wonder why they aren’t cooperating with police.

Uber, Facebook, Snapchat and the Weather Company are all being asked for information that could help prosecutors in their case.

As prosecutors work to build a case against Howell Donaldson III for his alleged role in four murders in Southeast Seminole Heights, they’ve filed search warrants against several companies in hopes of getting more clues in the case.

Uber, Facebook, Snapchat and the Weather Company are all being asked for information that could help prosecutors in their case.

Search warrants for these companies were all filed Feb. 1. The warrants have since been sealed.

The state attorney’s office has not said what specific information it’s seeking from these companies.

Seminole Heights shooting victim leaves legacy of service

He was shot and killed back in November, the fourth person allegedly gunned down by the Seminole Heights Serial Killer. But Ronald Felton left a legacy, and now a local church is honoring him.

Twice a week, Ronnie would get up early and head to New Season Apostolic Ministries on Nebraska Avenue to help feed those less fortunate at the food bank. The 60-year-old was actually on his way to volunteer the morning he was murdered.

Four months later, the pantry is now re-named in Ronnie’s memory. The big, brand new sign just went up last week. The Ronnie Felton Food Pantry is now open for business.

The defense also asked the judge for more time to review the discovery before it’s made public. They say they’re spread thin on resources because the office is working on more death penalty cases.

The defense’s motion for a 60-day extension stated that the initial installment of discovery contained 1,523 pages of material and 41 audio files, which total more than 20 hours of recorded interviews.

Judge Wolfe ordered that search warrants requested by News Channel 8’s attorneys are to be delivered to him on or before April 16.

The search warrants are 150 to 200 pages of information.

Wolfe also wants to receive the audio files and written material on or before May 16.

If Howell Emanuel Donaldson III suffers from mental illness, it is not enough to halt the legal proceedings against him.

Weeks after the serial murder defendant underwent three separate psychological examinations, a judge deemed him competent Thursday to face trial in the Seminole Heights killings.

First murder, then porn, reports allege of Howell Donaldson III

Howell Donaldson III killed people and then soon after visited an adult-themed website, according to newly released investigative reports in the trial of the man accused of four Seminole Heights murders.

Data from his cell phone showed a "significant amount of Internet activity" within close proximity to the shooting deaths of Benjamin Mitchell on Oct. 9, Monica Hoffa on Oct. 11 and Anthony Naiboa on Oct. 19, records show.

The website name is redacted. In a warrant, a Tampa police sergeant described it as a place where customers could view others in sexually themed situations and interact with models privately.

"In summary, Howell Donaldson showed a pattern of visiting this adult-themed website after committing three homicides," the warrant said.

The latest insight into the Donaldson case was provided in a release by prosecutors late Friday of more than 1,500 pages of investigative reports and audio recordings, material obtained by the Tampa Bay Times through a public records request.

The records portray Donaldson, now 25, as a man whose behavioral changes had begun to trouble his on-again, off-again girlfriend but whose parents stood by him even as police were about to charge him with ending the lives of strangers.

His sister had just had a baby and he wouldn’t visit. Friends said he was no longer the sharp, together guy they knew in high school. He needed a haircut and his clothes were sloppy. They noticed he would repeat the same mundane questions to them, even after they had answered multiple times.

It was a period of intense activity in his life.

On Oct. 3, the day his on-again, off-again girlfriend began a new job, Donaldson went to Shooter’s World and bought a .40-caliber Glock 27 handgun, records show.

He first began visiting the porn website on Oct. 5.

He picked up the gun on the morning of Oct. 7 after passing a background check. He also bought a 20-round box of ammunition.

The last murder was Nov. 14, when Ronald Felton was shot to death along Nebraska Avenue.

Police have previously acknowledged that they used Donaldson’s cell phone to establish his location at the time of the killings.

Had to delurk to post this bullshit. Donaldson complained to a judge that prison is making him sick in some unspecified way and he feels old: “"I'm an ex-college athlete. It's hard for me to stand right now. I shouldn't feel like I'm 90-years-old right now. If they don't find anything, they can shove me back in the cell," Donaldson said."I think they are going to find some not so good things."

What a whiny bitch! I don't even know what to say about that. On the other hand, maybe they will find something and the taxpayers can save a lot of money when he dies.

Apologies. The image wouldn't go through. It was a 2011 screenshot from his FB page where his friend told him to "stop kiling people"

FOX 13 has obtained audio and video of jailhouse conversations the accused Seminole Heights killer had with his parents. Howell ‘Trai’ Donaldson talked to his mom and dad on the phone and then visited with them back in January.

The defense tried to block the release of the recordings, but that was denied and the audio and video were released Wednesday.

Donaldson has been locked up since November 2017, accused of gunning down four innocent people over a six-week span in Seminole Heights.

“I’m telling you, man, they in here killing me,” Donaldson said. “I’m surprised I’m still here, honestly.”

During the 18-minute phone call, Donaldson told his parents that his spirit was broken.

The 26-year-old's health and mental state were also discussed during a jailhouse visit with his mom and dad a few weeks later.

“Literally just trying to get through every day,” he said.

He told them every day is agony, nothing is in his control, and he's struggling mentally and physically.

“The things I’ve experienced in here have changed my life forever,” said Donaldson. “Just how I see the world, and the power of the mind is crazy, and you know, God is real.”

Donaldson's parents repeatedly encouraged him to lean on his faith, and also work on strengthening his body and his mind.

“I’m going to ask the judge for some help because my heart can only take so much more,” Donaldson said.

What is up with the parents? That childhood friend said the only time he was at Donaldson's house was when he snuck him in when his parents weren't home. Weird. I'm thinking he might have a touch of the schizo.

This is what I am thinking too. I think the parents just can't cope, and have probably been in denial about his mental state and behaviour for a long time.

Don't know why it said I edited your post. I was trying to reply and it got weird.

They are for sure in denial. There's a lot of god talk too so I wonder if they are strict, religious nutbags that perhaps contributed to his mental state.

And hey! Feel free to edit my posts all you want and make me look smart as fuck.
