I'm about an hour from the coast here in Jersey, so I'm thinking I should be ok. I'll probably just get a lot of rain.
I should probably avoid Atlantic City this week, though.

I was suppose to go to South Carolina next week for work. Just found out it's been cancelled. This thing is a monster. Puerto Rico is up next.
And then there are two Tropical Storms.

I went to St.Thomas virgin islands when I was a kid and my sister had her honeymoon at St.Maarten, based on the vids I'm watching they look completely destroyed.

Currently.
Just remember, global warming isn't real.
I am riding it out at home. Earlier today they were showing it being a 3 when it hit us, but now they are showing it still being a Cat 4 when it comes over us. Since you're so near the water evacuating is probably the smart thing to do!
St Maarten's famous international airport, Princess Juliana, has been destroyed by Hurricane Irma.

On a lighter note for a moment, everyone else took Ani's advice at my local store:
No one likes the hot dog buns.

Here we go again. They did this last year with Matthew, and said the 'induced panic' was only a ploy to help Hillary win the election. We were saved by a direct Cat 4 hit only by the slightest of 2am bobbles with the storm. Of course, that made the GOP say "see, we told you". Ugh. Actually, you know what, if the people that believe Rush want to stay in the Keys and ride it out, I am ok with that. If they want to be that stupid, then go for it.
Yesterday I encountered three people that I know, and all three have done little to nothing to prepare and were like "it will miss us, and it's not that big of a deal". I thought that was asinine, but now I think about it, all three are Right leaning. Maybe that explains it. IDK.

I've seen several people I know that think these storms are engineered by the government.
I hate when people don't prepare, and act like that, because even if it doesn't hit you, omg you have some extra food and water. What a horrible situation.
I'm sort of a prepper though, not a doomsday one, but I have a small amount of supplies and a go-bag, and I keep some extra stuff in my car that would make leaving quickly pretty easy. It's helped in a few situations already, and doesn't hurt, so why not?
I never try anything, I just do it. Wanna try me?
Exactly, I'm the same way. The only supplies I've really had to buy is plywood and stuff for the new rent house. Everything else I bought this week I would have bought on any random week.
These are the same people that I heard trashing the Katrina victims because they "wait for the gubmint to do everything for them, and never take care of themselves." Pot, meet Kettle.
Please feel free to share your prepping stores, contents of your bug out bag, and survival techniques here:

Ignore the misspelling, I didn't make it.
I always bitched and complained about the weather in Buffalo, but I had it pretty good when I was there. The worst we'd get is a blizzard that trapped us inside for a few days. Nothing like this.
We lost power for a couple of days. They weren't letting anyone back into the area even after the federal authorities lifted the ban from us returning. People had to sneak in the back way. I didn't come back until we were officially allowed to. I really hope this hurricane either goes further west or goes out to sea before it hits us.
I think I mentioned this during Hurricane Matthew, but my cousin and my 87-year-old aunt live about two miles from the coast in Daytona. They decided to ride out Matthew and were fine but said they're going to a shelter this time, thank goodness. They better. I was already worried about them, but my mom is getting super anxious about their safety and is calling me multiple times a day about it and making me more anxious than I already was.
We considered going down there to get them and bringing them up here, but getting back would probably take days. A friend of mine, who has never been the brightest bulb in the chandelier, had a trip to Florida already planned and decided to go today anyway. She posted this pic on fb a few hours ago. This is 75 just south of the Georgia/Florida line. She said the northbound traffic is like that all the way to Atlanta ... that's about 250 miles. Fuuuck.
One of my husband's bffs lives in Miami. They've never evacuated for a storm before, and even they're leaving town this time.
