The reward for a missing 19-year-old Macomb Township man has been increased to $5,000, police said Monday.

Stephen McAfee was last seen at 2:30 a.m. March 10 when he left his home on Walden.

McAfee lives there with his parents and sister, according to his mother, Suzanne McAfee. A brother lives elsewhere.

Crime Stoppers said it will pay $5,000 to any anonymous tipster who helps reunite the teen with his family. That?s double the initial reward.

Suzanne McAfee said in May there were no issues leading up to her son?s disappearance

?We had a nice evening,? Suzanne McAfee said. ?There weren?t problems, anything like that.?

This is the longest the family has gone without hearing from McAfee, his mother said. The man is not believed to have packed any clothing before leaving and he also left behind his cellphone charger.

McAfee is described as 6-feet, 1-inch tall, 155 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Anonymous tipsters are asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) SPEAK-UP, or text 274637, or visit www.1800speakup.org.

Appeals court to decide issue in Ray Township murder
Defendant in jail pending appearance in April

By Jameson Cook | Digital First Media Jan 29, 2018

The case of a Ray Township man accused of killing and dismembering a childhood friend is proceeding slowly as the state Court of Appeals considers a legal issue.

Andrew Fiacco, 20, appeared for his arraignment Jan. 22 in front of Judge Jennifer Faunce in Macomb County Circuit Court, where a not-guilty plea was entered for him for the death of Stephen McAfee, 19, nearly two years ago.

Fiacco also appeared for sentencing at the same time for an unrelated incident in which he is accused of two counts of malicious destruction of property, one at the $1,000 to $20,000 level and one at the $200 to $1,000 level in September 2016.

One of Fiacco's two attorneys, Kristina Joseph, was granted an adjournment by Faunce due to the appeals court agreeing to consider whether Fiacco's statements to police should be dismissed from the case on constitutional grounds. Joseph said they are also asking the appeals court for a stay in the case.

Faunce scheduled the next hearing for April 19, while Fiacco remains held without bond in the county jail.

Fiacco is charged with first-degree murder, felony firearm, mutilation of a body and lying to police in connection with the shooting death of Macomb Township resident McAfee, who went missing in March 2016. McAfee's dismembered body was found last April near the Fiacco family home on Kunstman Road, south of 28 Mile Road, in Ray Township, and at another location near 34 Mile Road and Van Dyke Road in Bruce Township, police said.

First-degree murder carries a penalty of life in prison without parole.

Joseph and co-counsel David Griem unsuccessfully attempted to have their client's statements tossed last year during his preliminary examination in in 42-I District Court in Romeo. Griem argued a pair of investigators from the Macomb County Sheriff's Office should not have interviewed Fiacco after he was arrested last April 27. Griem said Fiacco asked for a lawyer four times during the interview after he was read his Miranda Warning rights.

Police said Fiacco's co-defendant, Eevette MacDonald, his girlfriend at the time, told a tipster she helped Fiacco dispose of the body. MacDonald, 18, of Shelby Township, is charged with accessory after the fact, mutilation of a body and lying to police. Free after posting a $20,000 bond, she faces a Jan. 29 pretrial in front of Faunce.

Prior to his arrest, Fiacco was questioned twice by police about McAfee.

Case delayed for man accused of 2016 murder
By: Joshua Gordon | Macomb Township Chronicle | Published February 7, 2018

MOUNT CLEMENS ? The court proceedings of a man accused of murdering his 19-year-old Macomb Township friend have been dragged out as his lawyers appeal a recent court ruling.

Andrew Fiacco, 20, of Ray Township, was accused in the death, mutilation and disappearance of Stephen McAfee in March 2016. Fiacco?s case was bound over in December from the 42nd District Court Division 1 in Romeo to the Macomb County Circuit Court.

Fiacco?s attorney, David Griem, was hoping to have his client?s police interrogation thrown out as evidence in August because he said Fiacco asked for a lawyer during the interview. Griem said in August that Fiacco admitted to shooting McAfee during the interrogation with the Macomb County Sheriff?s Office on April 27, 2017.

Griem was unsuccessful in that motion, but it is being reconsidered in the Michigan Court of Appeals. Because of this, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Faunce set an April 19 pretrial conference date during the Jan. 22 arraignment to give the appeal process time.

Fiacco was accused in the death of McAfee, along with Eevette MacDonald, 19, of Shelby Township.

McAfee was last seen around 2:30 a.m. March 10, 2016, at his Macomb Township home with his parents. Police had very few leads until April 26, 2017, when a woman told the Sheriff?s Office that MacDonald allegedly told her Fiacco shot McAfee the night he went missing and the two dismembered the body and hid the remains in various locations at a later date.

McAfee?s remains were found outside of Fiacco?s family home in Ray Township the next day. Detective Sgt. Mark Morfino testified in August that he interviewed Fiacco and MacDonald in 2016, but both said they had no information on McAfee?s wearabouts.

After the woman came to the Sheriff?s Office, MacDonald was once again interviewed and she indicated the circumstances around McAfee?s death, including a location in the area of 34 Mile Road and Van Dyke in Bruce Township where Fiacco showed her McAfee?s body about a month after his disappearance.

MacDonald told police Fiacco was in possession of a gun at the time and allegedly told her he shot McAfee three times.

A month later, MacDonald accompanied Fiacco back to the site with an ax and helped to dismember McAfee?s body and hide the remains because she was fearful for her and her family?s safety, she told police.

Fiacco is charged with first-degree murder, a life felony; disinterment and mutilation of a dead body, a 10-year felony; lying to a police officer in the investigation of a violent crime, a four-year felony; and using a firearm in the commission of a felony, a two-year felony.

MacDonald is charged with accessory after the fact to a felony murder, a five-year felony; disinterment and mutilation of a dead body; and lying to a police officer in the investigation of a violent crime. She is scheduled for a pretrial conference on March 8 at the Macomb County Circuit Court.

Griem did not return a request for comment by press time.
