Maelys De Araujo's (9) remains were found six months after she was abducted

Extensive searches are being conducted following the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl while at a wedding in eastern France.

The BBC have reported that the girl, Ma?lys De Araujo, was last seen in a children's room at about 3am on Sunday.

Police have questioned 180 people from the wedding, which took place in Pont-de-Beautoisin, Is?re.

A wedding guest spoke to Le Parisien about what had happened when they realised the girl was missing.

Gr?goire said: "The DJ for the evening announced on the microphone that a child had disappeared. Suddenly, everyone started searching, in the main hall and outside.

"It was anguish. To see the disappearance of a nine-year-old, that's not nothing. We initially thought she must be asleep in a corner after a game of hide-and-seek. After an hour, as we'd found nothing, the police were alerted."

Gr?goire said he believed that a kidnapping had taken place.

It has also been reported that police dogs failed to find a scent of the girl beyond the car park of the wedding hall which suggests the girl did not run away.

French police have appealed for witnesses to come forward to help find Ma?lys, who they say is 130cm tall (4'3"), weighs 28kg (4st 6lb), has dark skin, brown eyes and hair, and was wearing a white sleeveless dress.

French police have detained a wedding guest for questioning in connection with the search for a nine-year-old girl who went missing at a weekend wedding party in the Alps.

The 34-year-old was detained Thursday, prosecutor Dietlind Baudoin said in a statement.

The prosecutor warned against jumping to conclusions. She said police wanted to clarify the whereabouts of a person who left the celebrations around when the girl disappeared in Pont-de-Beauvoisin, 85 kilometers (53 miles) from Lyon in southeastern France.

The detained person is a man, according to another official close to the police investigation, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case.

I didn't even look for one because of her age. I guess I should have known better...everyone has a social media presence nowadays. Thanks for posting it!

French police detain second man in case of missing girl

Officials say that a second man is being questioned in the disappearance of a 9-year-old girl at a wedding party in an Alpine town.

The detention of a guest at the celebration arrested a day earlier has also been prolonged.

The prosecutor handling the case said the second man was detained Friday "to compare the statements of the two individuals." Both are 34.

In a statement, prosecutor Dietlind Baudoin said no lead was being cast aside.

2 men released without being charged

An official in France says that two men have been released without charges after being questioned in the disappearance of a 9-year-old girl at a wedding party in an Alpine town.

The official said that the men, both 34, were released Friday night. They were detained on Thursday and Friday. The official, who didn’t provide further details, wasn’t authorized to speak publicly about the investigation.

Hundreds of volunteers are taking part in searches Saturday to try to locate the girl, who went missing last weekend in Pont-de-Beauvoisin.

Man charged with kidnap of missing girl

A man has been charged with kidnapping in connection with the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl during a wedding in the French Alps.

The man, who has not been named, is one of two suspects questioned over the whereabouts of Ma?lys de Araujo.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Grenoble's prosecutor said a 34-year-old man had been charged with "kidnapping, illegal confinement or arbitrary detention of a minor of less than 15 years".

The man, who had attended the wedding, "persisted in his denials and explanations", the statement said, adding "this did not convince the investigative judges, who decided to hold him".

Several French media reported that DNA traces of the girl were found in the suspect’s car.

Bernard Meraud, the lawyer representing the suspect, told BFMTV channel that the DNA traces of the girl were found only because the missing child had played inside his client’s vehicle with another child.

“His dogs were mentioned during the party so the children, as they were playing outside, came to him and asked to see his dogs in his car,” Meraud said. “He opened the door, turned over the passenger front seat, the children went on the back seat, looked inside the boot and came out. That’s it.”
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017...dna-found-car/

The suspect has told investigators that she "got into his car", his lawyer told AFP, but denies abducting her.

The vehicle had previously caught the attention of investigators, as the owner had washed it after the wedding, he said in order to sell it.

Sniffer dogs lost the scent from Maelys's cuddly toy in a car park outside the venue, raising fears she was kidnapped and whisked away by car.

She has not been found despite intense searches in the heavily wooded area where the wedding took place.
The lawyer, Bernard M?raud, said that his client had told investigators that Maelys had got into his car that night, but that he denied the charges

"He declared that the little girl got into the vehicle with a little boy, on the back seat, to see if (the suspect's) dog was in the boot." They were able to do so because all of the car's windows were open, he said.

But he added: "One should avoid drawing any clear conclusions."

He stressed that his client "continues to totally deny" any involvement in her disappearance and that the DNA on the dashboard "may have been transferred" from someone else.

The suspect's mother had earlier played down the significance of the DNA findings, saying wedding guests took part in party games organised that evening. "The little girl touched (the games). He touched them afterwards, then he goes in his car and touches his car and that's how you find tiny (DNA) traces. If they found something very significant I'd understand, but we're talking about tiny traces," she told RMC.

Party guest charged with murder in French missing girl case

French authorities have handed preliminary murder charges to a 34-year-old man in the case of a 9-year-old girl who went missing from a wedding celebration last summer in France.

Grenoble prosecutor Jean-Yves Coquillat said Thursday that suspect Nordahl Lelandais, who was already charged with kidnapping the girl, is now also suspected of murdering her.

Coquillat said Lelandais denies any wrongdoing or involvement in the disappearance of the girl. He also said the girl's body hasn't been found so far.

Ma?lys de Araujo: Remains of missing French girl found

The remains of a nine-year-old girl who disappeared in the French Alps last August have been found, officials say.

Nordahl Lelandais, a 34-year-old former soldier, has admitted killing Ma?lys de Araujo "involuntarily", without giving details.

He agreed to co-operate with the police after a trace of her blood was found in his car.

The girl went missing during a wedding in Pont-de-Beauvoisin, north of Grenoble.

Nordahl Lelandais said he "got rid of the body" and offered his apologies to the girl's parents, said Grenoble prosecutor Jean-Yves Coquillat.

He had previously admitted that Ma?lys was in his car on the night she disappeared.
They identified him as a suspect pretty quickly, so I am guessing he killed her right away.

A former soldier has admitted killing eight-year-old French schoolgirl Maelys de Araujo, who vanished from a wedding in the Alps in August, amid fears police are dealing with a serial killer.
He admitted killing the youngster 'involuntarily' after she went missing during a wedding in Pont-de-Beauvoisin, north of Grenoble.

There are now suspicions that Lelandais could be responsible for the unsolved Alps murders in which a British man, his wife and mother-in-law were killed in a forest car park in September 2012.

Other cases in which it is suspected that Lelandais may be involved include that of Adrien Mourial, a 24-year-old Belgian citizen who went missing near Lake Annecy in July, and Jean-Christophe Morin and Ahmed Hamad, who vanished in 2011 and 2012 respectively.

Lelandais' alleged links to these murders have prompted police to begin poring over files of other missing people in the region amid fears that he could be a serial killer.

The unmarried suspect from the village of Domessin, 18 miles from Chambery, was also charged in December over the April killing of a hitchhiking soldier.

There are also suspicions that Lelandais could be responsible for the unsolved 2012 murders of Saad al-Hilli, Iqbal al-Hilli and her mother Suhaila al-Allaf who were shot dead while on holiday in Chevaline, near Annecy. A passing French cyclist, Sylvain Mollier was also killed.

He says he involuntarily killed her? That lying son of a bitch. A nine year old little girl. And it sounds like he may have been involuntarily killing people for years.

He took her and killed her in like 30 minutes, and was back at the wedding shortly afterwards. I don't think he sexually assaulted her. I think this guy just wants to kill. There's no telling how many people he has actually killed.

Is this the case where the little girl hid underneath her dead mother's body? Or am I confusing cases?

I was not familiar with that case, but after a bit of googling it appears that you have the correct case in mind.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annecy_shootings

Four people were killed: an Iraqi-born British tourist named Saad al-Hilli, 50; his wife Iqbal, 47; her mother Suhaila al-Allaf, 74, who held a Swedish passport; and French cyclist Sylvain Mollier, 45. The al-Hillis' two daughters both survived the attack. One, aged four, was hidden under the legs of her dead mother in the rear footwell for eight hours even while the gendarmerie were on the scene; she was only discovered by specialist forensic investigators. The elder daughter, aged seven, was shot in the shoulder and also suffered a head wound; she returned to the United Kingdom on 14 September 2012.

I should have googled it myself, thanks. I know that case went cold awhile ago, I wonder if this guy actually did it.

Yeah, I am interested in seeing what all shakes out in this investigation. I will have to search later, but I have seen a pretty lengthy list of homicides that they are saying they are pretty sure he was involved in.

so I googled arund because I was curious if Maelys had brazilian or portuguese family (because of her surname "De Araujo") and just read in a website that the murderer was sent to a psychiatric hospital to avoid any suicide attempt. Holy shit. This guy can't kill himself, he must pay for his horrible crime.

Holy crap! I missed that they found her and this douchebag. He has to have done this before and likely a lot. You don't just decide to go off with a 9 year old from a wedding, kill her then rejoin the reception in time for cake unless this is normally your thing.

Yeah, the family of several of the murdered victims are demanding they keep a constant watch on him. They don't want to lose their only potential avenue for answers...plus as you said, he shouldn't be allowed to take the easy way out. I am getting vibes of Israel Keyes.

I keep running the French articles through Google translate to get an idea of what is going on. There is only the occasional English article. I do know they are looking at him in about 50 potential cases.

Thanks raisedbywolves for keeping an eye on this case, if you find anything new please let us know! I subscribed to the thread, it's so strange that he had the nerve to abduct her in a party, this makes me think that he had done this sort of thing before and wasn't caught. Also it makes me really angry that after months hiding the truth he comes up with this bullshit story that that he killed the little girl involuntarily. How can someone kill a kid by accident after abducting her?! wtf. I hope she didn't suffer. My heart goes out to her mom, I read somewhere that she feels guilty, as if she didn't protect her child enough. But come on, how can we imagine that our kid will be abducted and murdered in a party? This never crossed my mind before.

Ok, so officially I guess it's *only* 14 they are thinking he was involved with at this time.

    https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-...-alps-12077981

Detectives investigating a suspected serial killer in France are probing links to the mystery murder of a British family.

Nordahl Lelandais is in the frame for the shooting of four people at Lake Annecy, in the Alps, in 2012.

Saad al-Hilli, 50, from Claygate, Surrey, his wife Iqbal, 47, and her mum Suhaila, 74, were shot in their car by an assassin at close-range.

The couple?s two daughters, then aged four and seven, survived by hiding under their mum?s skirt, but a French cyclist was also shot dead.
He is now being linked to 14 other unexplained disappearances.

A former friend said: ?Everyone here knows that Lelandais fits the profile of the Annecy assassin.

?There have been an extra*ordinary number of strange murders and disappearances in this area in recent years.

"Now *everything is clicking into place.?
