What we know - and don't know - about alleged serial killer 'Robert Evans'

Hoping that the video will help jog people’s memories, a child welfare group and police on Tuesday released chilling excerpts of California police interviewing a man believed to be a serial killer who left victims in New Hampshire and California — and might have killed even more people.
The man traveled the country, working as a handyman using a string of aliases. He first surfaced in New Hampshire in the late 1970s using the name “Robert T. Evans.” (He was using the name “Larry Vanner” during the video interview.)
Here’s what we know — and don’t know — about Evans, who died in prison in 2010 but left a dark mystery behind.
    What we know
1981 — A man using the name “Robert T. Evans” is working as an electrician at the Waumbec Mills and renting a house on Hayward Street in Manchester, N.H. He vanishes after Thanksgiving 1981 with his 23-year-old girlfriend, Denise Beaudin, and her 6-month-old daughter. Her family doesn’t report her missing because they think the couple left because of financial difficulties.
May 1985 — Evans is charged with a hit-and-run and driving drunk with Beaudin’s daughter in the car in Cypress, Calif. He claims to be “Curtis Mayo Kimball,” an identity he stole in La Porte, Texas, so his fingerprints are entered into a California state database under that name. He flees the area.
1986 — Evans, using the name “Gordon Jenson,” surfaces at the Holiday Host RV Park in Scotts Valley, Calif., where he is living with Beaudin’s small daughter and working as a handyman. He claims she’s his daughter, Lisa. He abandons her, leaving behind a fingerprint that matches that of “Curtis Mayo Kimball.” A warrant is issued for his arrest for child abandonment and molestation.
November 1988 — Evans, using the name “Gerry Mockerman,” is arrested in San Luis Obispo, Calif., for driving a car he stole in Preston, Idaho, from people who knew him as “Jerry Gorman.” His prints match those of “Kimball.” He’s returned to Santa Cruz County, where he pleads guilty the following year to child abandonment. He’s sentenced to three years in prison but is paroled in 1990 after serving only 19 months. He immediately flees.
2002 — Evans, in Richmond, Calif., going by the name “Larry Vanner,” kills Eunsoon Jun, a woman he married a year earlier in an unofficial backyard ceremony. His prints are matched to “Kimball.” He’s sentenced the following year to 15 years to life for the slaying. DNA tests reveal he is not the father of the girl he abandoned at the trailer park. She is taken into state custody and later adopted.
December 2010 — Evans dies of natural causes in High Desert Prison.
    What we don’t know
What is Robert Evans’s real name?
Police actually still don’t know the serial killer’s real name or age or where he lived before he arrived in New Hampshire in the late 1970s. They hope someone will recognize him from the newly released video and help unravel his crimes and identify his victims.
Who are the people that he killed in Allenstown, N.H.?
In November 1985, hunters discovered the remains of a woman and girl in a steel barrel in the woods bordering Bear Brook State Park in Allenstown, N.H. Evans had done electrical work at a store on the property. In 2000, a second barrel containing the remains of two more girls was found about 100 yards from the other victims.
Police believe that Evans killed them all. DNA tests confirm that Evans is the biological father of one of the murdered girls, but they have not identified or located her mother. The identities of the other three victims also remain a mystery.
    Where is Denise Beaudin?
Denise Beaudin, who went missing in 1981 in New Hampshire, remains missing. Police believe Evans killed her.
    Did Evans have more victims?
Police believe that Evans might have killed even more women and children, but officials are struggling to put together a fuller picture of his life.
