He was involved in a motorcycle accident in 2011. The mother of his son, David was killed and he was critically injured.

Kathleen, the daughter of Edward and Estella Blair, was born November 26, 1969 in San Pedro, California and passed away suddenly on September 26, 2011 in Long Beach, California. Kathleen is survived by her 2 children, Manuel Villegas and David Metzger; her father, Edward Blair (her mother, Estella Blair preceded her in death); 4 siblings, Joanne Blair, Diane Blair, Eddie Blair and Gilbert Blair; her grandmother, Connie Herrera, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and many close friends. The Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. on October 4th in the Green Hills Chapel followed by visitation from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Hello, Gunsmoke. Are you a friend or family member of Darrin? I am so sorry for your loss.
Before more details were available, the forum user Boston Babe 73 made the comment you quoted. The medical examiner has ruled Darrin's death an accident and I don't think anyone here is implying anything further.
