i had a hemorrhagic cyst that was twisted (called a torsion) that caused me terrible pain, but it was all the time not just during my period. it could just be coincidental that you happen to be bleeding and the cyst is acting up or somehow twisted. it wouldn't make you bleed more, if it popped it would just bleed out in your abdomen. have they discussed surgery? as soon as they found my torsion (they knew the cyst was there a few months) they scheduled surgery to remove my ovary. of course yours could be something else, but if you get shooting pains down your leg or can't stand up straight i would definitely suggest calling your dr.

i hope you're feeling better soon. that shit is no fun to deal with.

Emmie-I went to the hospital a few weeks back because I thought it had twisted or burst. But it was still there. I no longer have the pain radiating down my leg anymore, so I don't think it's twisted. It's just the cramping and the ton of bleeding that is making me miserable. Definitely the worst period I have had in a long time.

Thank you for the well wishes ladies. The only thing I keep telling myself is that I start my new pack of birth control on Wednesday, so it CAN'T last forever!

Went to get an ultrasound on my cyst today, it's "complex" and it has grown....
I have been getting horrible cramps, and PMS w/o the bleeding. I haven't had a period in a couple months. But anyways I had the vaginal ultrasound today and I hurt soooo bad. I didn't go to work tonight.

I had one of those ultrasounds when they were trying to figure out my issues, and it hurt SO bad. Single most uncomfortable test I had done, and they biopsied shit.

I don't think it's supposed to hurt this bad, I'm gonna call the dr in the am. I took a pain pill and I've been using the heating pad and still no relief

I've had a vaginal ultrasound several times. I hate it. I hate that they stick a rubber on it, hand it to me and tell me to shove it up there. It's embarrassing. Anyway, I don't think it should cause you that much pain. I had some pain with it, but by the time I got dressed, I forgot about the pain.

Anyone tried tea tree oil or peroxide to treat BV?
no. ok well, i was too afraid to try tea tree oil on my cooter but i have tried hydrogen peroxide and wasn't impressed by the results. well, it didn't do anything... at least not in a quick enough manner...i've also painted my snatch with gentian violet. for a yeast infection, not bv, but hey were talking alt treatments here. it was messy and stained everything. what i did try and found success with is boric acid. i know, sounds scary but i did not want to have to go through another round with flagyl. i fucking hate that shit. well, i ended up having to take it because i couldn't find the right kind of boric acid anywhere local, so i gave in, then i ordered boric acid off amazon and kept it for the next time my vag got pissed off.

i still have a huge bottle of it. and a shit ton of gel-caps but keep everything down there happy by rinsing the vulvar area with diluted apple cider vinegar and haven't needed to reset things with the boric acid capsules in almost a year. the summer isn't over yet though...so maybe i've spoken to soon. boric acid works on bv and yeast infections. i like using it for yeast infections vs. monistat or whatever because you don't get that oozy feeling. sure, you feel something's there and there's potential for it to leak out but it doesn't ooze like monistat does. like, you definitely know when the gel cap has melted but it's nowhere near as gross.

there's posts pages and pages back about when i was bleeding so heavily i went to the er. it was scary. a jumbo tampon gave me 45 minutes. pared with an overnight plus-sized pad, it bought me an hour. i was losing weight at the time, and my gyno told me at my follow-up appointment that there was a chance that there was a hormone fluctuation from the stored up hormones in my fat cells? shrug. it sounded believable to me. they had no answers for me at the er...

Starting Wednesday, millions of American women will no longer pay for birth control pills, Pap smears or mammograms -- not even a co-pay. Women also have the right to free breast-feeding support, supplies for pregnancy-related diabetes, also known as gestational diabetes, and even screening for domestic violence.

President Obama's health care reform is drawing fire from Republicans, as provisions enacted today mandate all employers provide free contraception to their employees. NBC's Brian Mooar reports.

It's not clear how many women will take advantage of the new policy, but the US Health and Human Services Department estimates that 47 million women, ages 15 to 64, have private health insurance plans that will be affected. The 2010 health reform law requires that policies provided by private health insurance companies pay for a list of women’s health preventive services, starting August 1.

However, there may be a delay in services for many women. The law applies to new policies -- women with existing coverage may have to wait for their policies to renew for the requirements to kick in, which could take months. Many health insurers already provide this coverage.

The new rules are based on guidelines from the independent, non-partisan Institute of Medicine, which said paying for these services will save money and lives down the road.

“We want healthy women to have healthy babies,” said Dr. Jennifer Howse, president of the March of Dimes Foundation, a charity that works to prevent birth defects. “Receiving regular medical care greatly increases the likelihood that important messages can be delivered to pregnant women around issues such as nutrition and tobacco cessation, and provides opportunities to detect potentially dangerous conditions like gestational diabetes or high blood pressure.”

There are a few exceptions. Purely religious employers don’t have to provide the services to employees if they object. Related groups, such as Catholic-affiliated universities, have objected so the Obama administration offered what it called an accommodation, forcing the insurance companies themselves to pay for the coverage. But the religious associations still object, as do Republicans in Congress. They have promised to repeal the whole law if they win enough seats in the November election.

On Friday, a federal judge in Colorado ruled that a Catholic-owned heating and air conditioning company in Denver did not have to provide contraception coverage for its workers.

Americans also get refunds starting today from health insurance companies that spent too much on administrative expenses. The law requires health insurance companies to spend at least 80 percent of premiums on actual medical care and not on salaries, office rental and other overheads.

While opponents continue efforts to repeal the health care law, HHS secretary Kathleen Sebelius cheered the the promise of free screening for women's health services.

"For too long insurance companies have stacked the deck against women, forcing us to pay more for coverage that didn't meet our needs,” Sebelius said Tuesday.

Birth control pills should be over the counter at this point.

Well, I don't know that I agree with that. HBC brings so many risks with it that I think patients using it probably should be monitored.

How much are birth control pills in the states? They are over the counter here now (kinda). You can go in and get them without a script but you need to get a script and take it in within a certain amount of time.

THE contraceptive pill and cholesterol medication can be picked up at the chemist without a prescription under new government reforms.

The Federal Government announced from July 1, people can get these medicines from a pharmacist under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) if they have been prescribed before.

The National Health (Fifth Community Pharmacy Agreement) Bill 2011 was passed by the Senate today.

"This is a big win for patients who can't always make it to the doctor before their medications run out,'' said Federal Health Minister Tanya Plibersek said.

The contraceptive pill and the statins are two of the most commonly prescribed medications, Ms Plibersek said.

Patients will be able to get the medications without going to see doctors only if they cannot get to a doctor before the existing prescription runs out and within 24 hours, the pharmacist must write to the person's doctor letting them know they have provided an emergency supply.

whackjob-- thanks for the great tips! I'd seen something about the ACV before, and totally forgot. I wanted to try it for my hair too, so I guess I have enough motivation to find it now. Something about putting ACID in my hoonany is even scarier than tea tree oil

The side effects of oral BC are WAYYYYY less than the side effects of unwanted pregnancy. And that's beside all the benefits of taking BC.

Olivia, the cost for BC is generally $35-120 for a month's supply, depending on the brand, based on what I've seen. Mine is like $45 full cost... I pay 3 or 4 bucks co-pay. I pay a much higher co-pay for BC than other stuff for some "voluntary" bullshit clause. I never pay more than a dollar for anything else, and some of my scripts are $100+ a month.

I wonder if my insurance will waive my copay? It's crap that my copay for my annual exam is $40 because it's a "specialist," while my PCP or my shrink costs $25 copay. I still haven't figured out how they avoid making me pay the laboratory on my paps, since it's part of my deductible... Heath insurance and magnets; how to they work?

Fleta, if you have insurance youre supposed to not have a copay for preventive anymore...
My last pap was no copay because of that.

ETA or is it because its a specialist you still have to?

You're possibly ovulating if you're about 2wk (give or take, everyone's personal ovulation schedule is different) from your LMP.

Not a one-upper, just fucking fantastic... I just bought a brand new CB fertility monitor for $40 off of Craigslist.

Oh, and I finally got my period. Husband was talking dirty and waving his peen around at me on Skype last night and I thought things felt a little damp. Turns out he didn't actually turn me on, he threw my uterus into period mode. Even from bajillions of miles away, he still has that effect on me . It's real love.

Wow. My pill prescription costs $20 for a 4 month supply and that's without any benefits etc.

Anyone having problems with the cost of their meds should check here. Shipping is high at $25 (per shipment) but if you get together with several people you know and buy as a group, or at least stock up on meds, they're so cheap it could make a huge difference.
I've ordered from here and been happy. In fact, that's where I'd gotten the HCG I used (they stopped selling it, sadly) when I did the HCG diet. I've also gotten prescriptions at Walgreens that were manufactured in India.
Gonna post in the general medical thread, too.
