Birth Control, tampons, and other women's stuff. Beware!

i couldn't help but notice that there didn't seem to be one, and if there is it's so far back. Anyways, I thought maybe ladies would like to share some of their better and more horrible experiences with birth control....us doing what we can to exercise population control. Boys, feel free to contribute with your own 'a good punch to the uterus should do it!' stories or whatever.

I currently take ortholo but i'm not a fan and want to go back to my estrostep as soon as I get back to the states. For a while I went on Seasonale: I can't stress enough how much I do not recommend this, even though I got a free promotional purse. It made me crazy and killed my sex drive and also made me fat. Totally wrecked my metabolism. Similarly, my friend was on the depo and her kidneys failed.

I hear the ring is good.

Birth Control - Females only (unless males have anything worthwhile to add)

We moved this over from another thread.

Talk about birth control/contraception and all things related.

Who has lost their sex drive or had it decreased probably due to birth control??

I had my implanon implant taken out a few weeks ago. For anyone who doesn't know, it's a little rod that is inserted under the skin in your upper arm and it lasts for three years. I really wouldn't recommend it! It causes scarring when they put it in and take it out and it's kinda traumatic when they pump your arm full of local anesthetic and you can watch them cut it open with a scalpel. It really fucks around with your menstrual cycle. I had the lightest periods I have ever had for the first two years and that was great but during the last six months they were really heavy and erratic. I am going to try the ring next!

My old roommate had the ring and loved it, my only complaint was that when I bought groceries to put in the freezer, there wasn't room because all the rings were stored in there.

Re: Birth Control - Females only (unless males have anything worthwhile to add)

I'm on Yaz right now. Only a month into it. I was on the patch before, I liked it because I didn't have to worry about taking a pill everyday, but my dr. pulled me off of it cause he thought Yaz would be better for me.

I have a coworker who's wife has been in and out of some very prominent hospitals in the area for major migraines and vertigo, amongst other things. Finally went to the Mayo clinic and they discovered she has vasculitis. All stemming from her taking Yasmin. She has it in her brain. Her x-rays show massive lesions in the back of her brain, by her stem. They put her on some sort of pill that she has to take for the next several weeks, can't remember the name of it, but it's supposed to make the lesions diminish. Her doctors told her that the new b.c.'s out there aren't as reliable (study wise) as the older ones, and that all of us on the new stuff are in effect guinea pigs. Great. :|

Yeah, my doctor said it's really good. I always forget to take the pill at the right time so the ring sounds like a good option. I live with two guys though so the contraception in the freezer conversation might be a little awkward.

The depo shot SUCKED! Do not want!
I don't know if it was just my wack body, but i couldn't deal with the random spotting among other oddities.

I have poly-cystic ovaries so I used to be on Ortho Cyclen. More hormones or something in it to get rid of those bad boys.

Now, I'm on none of it. Need to go to the doctor, because a) I am in pain and b) no jellybeans for me anytime soon!

The higher the hormones, the lower the sex drive, which I guess is one way of getting birth control to work....
try either the ring or a lower dose of hormones. When I was on Seasonale, I just wanted to eat everything. As soon as I changed to low dosage, which is just as effective, I was much more normal, the horny little bunny I've always been.

No..what does it do? I'm going to ask my gyno about that..I feel like I am not getting the best treatment! :-(
[/quote]

Supposedly it's a preventative for diabetes (in my case). But people with diabetes take it also.

From what I've heard, once you've been taking it for a while, its supposed to regulate your period, without the use of BC. A lot of women who are trying to get pregnant, start taking it when they're trying to conceive, and obviously can't be on BC. It's supposed to help the process. But once you've been on it for a while, you aren't supposed to need BC. I would ask your gyno, see what he/she says.

It sucks because not a lot of docs know about PCOS, and what it means. I'd find someone else if you think you're not getting proper treatment. Especially when you want to start a family!
