Karena McClerkin's (18) remains found 6 months after she disappeared; one day after a suspect was arrested

There are news articles for Karena but very little for Sierra so far. There have been unsubstantiated claims they both went to Florida but family dispute this saying there have been sightings reported locally, none have been verified so far.

Family say that Sierra was last seen with Gabe Ellis, a man in his 40s.

Sierra's fb is plastered with her cousin's missing persons flyers. It's hard to believe she'd do this voluntarily knowing how much her family is already suffering

KOKOMO - A community-led search for a missing Kokomo teen resulted in no new clues Saturday afternoon.

From 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the family of 18-year-old Karena McClerkin, along with friends and residents scoured the area around the Wildcat Creek Reservoir in hopes of finding any signs of the missing teen.

?We want her home,? said James McClerkin, Karena?s father. ?We want her to get her life straight. She just turned 18, she has a whole future.?

Karena was last seen Oct. 11 walking down the 1000 block of S. Washington St. Since then, flyers with the teens photo and description of what she was wearing the last night she was seen ? a black crop top, ripped denim jeans and brown sandals ? have posted on social media and throughout the community.

She was outspoken, kind, but considerate, her father said. And she was a great person to be around. Karena was also dealing with substance abuse issues, although she was turning her life around.

?She doesn?t want to be out in these streets,? James said. ?She made that comment.?

And as speculative stories have made rounds across the internet about his daughter, James says the Kokomo Police Department hasn?t confirmed any of the hearsay, which is why he?s taking it upon himself to do what he can to find his daughter.

?I plan to let the police do their investigation while I just turn rocks over and hopefully I knock on the right door and someone knows something,? James said.

And since he lives a little over an hour outside of Kokomo, James recently lost his job due to the amount of time he?s dedicated to searching for Karena. He?s since found a new position, but said he?ll be back in Kokomo every weekend until his daughter is found.

?I?ve got a map ... I?m going to pan out and we?ll be here passing out flyers one square at a time until I cover [the area,] and then I?ll start back over again if Karena?s not found,? James said.

And to anyone who may know of the whereabouts of Karena, her father pleads for them to send any tips, even anonymously, to help bring her home.

?Anybody that?s selling dope or involved in dope, I just need them to take the time to sober up and pick up the phone and do the right thing,? James said.

This case is still an ongoing investigation by the Kokomo Police Department, according to a KPD spokesman.

Kokomo man sought for alleged child exploitation

A warrant has been issued for Gabriel Ellis for alleged relations with a runaway minor

Howard Superior Court 1 issued a warrant last week for the arrest of a man charged with multiple crimes against a child.

On Jan. 31, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Gabriel Ellis on charges of child exploitation, a level five felony, and possession of child pornography, a level 6 felony. Both charges stem from an alleged relationship with a minor.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Ellis first was arrested on Jan. 5 after a local law enforcement officer observed him driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am with a license plate that didn?t match the car he was operating. A traffic stop was initiated, and a vehicle pursuit began that eventually resulted in Ellis being pulled over.

After he was pulled over, Ellis allegedly was found to be in possession of heroin. As a result, Ellis was arrested, and his cellphone was taken into police custody. The following day a search warrant was obtained by KPD to search Ellis? phone. Upon searching the phone, ?photographs and videos of Gabriel Ellis and an unknown female both in the nude and having sexual intercourse,? according to the affidavit.

Later, police learned the female in the photos and videos on the phone was a 16-year-old juvenile, according to the affidavit.

Police interviewed the alleged victim?s mother on Jan. 18, and it was then when she positively identified the victim portrayed in the images on Ellis? phone.

According to the affidavit, when police spoke with the alleged victim?s mother, ?She knew why (the police) had needed to speak with her. When asked to elaborate, (she) said she had called Child Protective Services in August or September because she believed that (her daughter) had been going to Gabriel Ellis? home without permission. She said that (the alleged victim) had been coming home with new bras and panties that she had not purchased.?

The affidavit continues, and the mother of the alleged victim said in an interview that she ?thought it was odd that a 40-year-old man would buy a then-15-year-old girl undergarments, so she asked (the victim) if she had been sexually active with Ellis. (The alleged victim) denied being sexually active with him.?

The CPS investigation, which came as a result of the complaint the department received on Aug. 30, 2016, did not yield results because the alleged victim ?denied being sexually involved with Gabriel Ellis at the time. However, CPS investigators had found (the alleged victim) at Gabriel Ellis? home when they went to locate the both of them.?

Then, after the detective investigating the case filed a preliminary report of alleged child abuse with CPS, a CPS investigator assigned to Ellis? alleged victim?s case contacted the KPD investigator in charge of the criminal investigation. According to the probable cause affidavit, the CPS worker had gone to the alleged victim?s home on Jan. 20, where he discovered the alleged victim ?ran away from home the previous day. Her status as a runaway was reported to the Howard County Sheriff?s Department.?

?Not only had (the alleged victim?s mother) reported the (alleged victim) as a runaway, but she also advised that (the victim had run away with the suspect in this case, Gabriel Ellis,? reads the affidavit. ?(The alleged victim) told a younger sister that she was going to the Super 8 motel with Ellis that day and before they went to Gas City.?

The detective made contact with the motel; however, neither Ellis or his alleged victim?s names had been used to register a room. And ?there was no information provided as to where in Gas City they may go; therefore, their current whereabouts are unknown.?

As a result of the investigation by KPD, the warrant on Jan. 31 was issued. When Ellis first was taken into custody on Jan. 5, he bonded out of Howard County Jail for a sum of $12,000 with 10 percent allowed. On Feb. 10, Ellis? bond was revoked, and as of press time he hadn?t been located by the police. For his first arrest, Ellis also was charged with dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a narcotic drug, unlawful possession of a syringe, maintaining a common nuisance, resisting law enforcement, and theft of a firearm.

All of these charges range from a level four felony to level six. He also was charged with possession of marijuana and driving while suspended, both A misdemeanors.

The new warrant alleges charges of possession of child pornography, a level six felony, and one count of child exploitation, a level five felony. As of press time neither Ellis nor his alleged victim had been located.

Sorry Bewitching, I don't know how I missed your first question I think one of the other two was this girl, Breanna Voiles, who (I think) is still missing, but I'm not sure of the 4th now? Unless it was the girl from Gary with the questionable Amber Alert? There was also a teenage boy on the original group poster - he was found safe, so maybe he was the fourth? I'm not sure of his name, he was located before I read about all these girls so his details were redacted from the links.

The Kokomo Police Department took in Howard County's most-wanted man, Gabriel Sebastian Ellis, yesterday.

At approximately 8:04 p.m., the Kokomo Police Department Drug Task Force and K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop in the 1800 Block of East Markland Avenue. During the traffic stop, Ellis, 40, of Kokomo was found to be a back-seat passenger. A 16-year-old female who had been reported to the Howard County Sheriff Department as a runaway also was found to be a passenger in the back seat of the vehicle.

Ellis was arrested on a warrant for the offenses of Child Exploitation and Possession of Child Pornography. During the investigation methamphetamine and a firearm were located. Subsequently Ellis additionally was charged with Dealing Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Felon Carrying a Handgun.

The juvenile female was transported to the Kinsey Youth Center without incident. No injuries were reported.

Sierra's big sis occasionally shares updates for Karena & other missing girls in Kokomo so I'll link her fb

What Happened to Missing Indiana Teen Karena McClerkin?

Whenever Gerry McClerkin would drop her granddaughter off anywhere, they'd hold hands.
    Karena McClerkin Gerry McClerkin

"I didn't get to see her all the time, but when I did and we said goodbye, we'd both cry almost every time," Gerry told Dateline. "When I think about the last time I said goodbye to her, it's even more heartbreaking now."

That heartbreak stems from the terrifying fact Karena has not been seen or heard from in more than five months.

Karena, 18, was reported missing on October 13, 2016. The events leading to her disappearance are a bit foggy, but it's believedthat Karena was picked up from mother's home to spend time with friends at a residence in Kokomo, Indiana.

Things had been rough in Karena's life, her grandmother Gerry told Dateline. The quiet teen had been living with her father for a few years, but after they moved to another town, Karena began acting out, Gerry says. She eventually landed back in Kokomo, living with her mother.

Somewhere down the line, Karena began dealing with a number of substance abuse issues. Her grandmother remembers seeing her hanging out with an older crowd, and she was concerned for her granddaughter's future.

"I told her to not go down that path. That there were other, bigger things she could do with her life," Gerry told Dateline. "She had her whole life ahead of her."

Karena appeared to be heeding her grandmother's advice. She had spoken about the possibility of going to a rehabilitation facility in Florida that a girl she knew had told her about. She had begun filling out the paper work.

    But then she disappeared.

The rumors and speculation began almost immediately.

Many of the stories are haunting. Gerry says she heard stories that Karena had been killed and buried in a tarp in a woodedarea, or that Karena's body had been thrown into a waterway to hide the crime. Those are the tamest stories Gerry has been told. Because of it all, she doesn't believe Karena is still alive.

"It's just a horrible mess, and the things you hear just make you sick," Gerry said. "I didn't want to believe she was dead. It took me awhile to accept that idea."

Something else that continues to frustrate Karena's family is the lack of attention her case has gotten, both from the media and from the authorities.

Gerry believes Karena's disappearance has not been taken seriously enough by Kokomo police, and that investigators have failed to adequately follow up on a number of tips and leads she has reported to them. Officials with the Kokomo Police Department are investigating, and have not yet returned Dateline's request for comment. They told the Kokomo Tribune Karena's case is an open investigation. Little other information has been released.

Gerry also wishes her granddaughter's face would be on the news as much as other cases from the surrounding area. "Because of her race and age and the situation, no one seems to care," Gerry told Dateline. "None of it means that she isn't important. Every person is important and that includes my granddaughter."

Karena's family continues to push on in their search. Gerry and a group of volunteers head out frequently to canvass various areas around town. Flyers are still being posted, and supporters post messages using the hashtag #BringKarenaHome.

The thought that Karena is out there, somewhere, just waiting to be found disturbs Gerry.

"She may have been out there since October. All alone. But where?" Gerry said. "We aren't going to give up until we have her home."

Karena McClerkin is described as 5'4" tall, weighing 130 lbs. with black, curly hair and brown eyes. She has a tattoo on her right forearm.

Anyone with information regarding her case is urged to contact the Kokomo Police Department at (765) 457-1105.

$50,000 Reward Offered To Help Find Missing Kokomo Teen

The family of a Kokomo teen missing for nearly two years has offered a $50,000 reward to help find her.

In addition to the reward, the McClerkin family has enlisted the services of four licensed private investigators who are donating their time to help: Charlotte Kiline from Missouri, William Sowder from Michigan, John Underhill from Missouri and Scott Ianson from Kokomo.

Scott Lanson says an inmate claims to have information about the missing teen.

"This person is currently incarcerated in the Howard County Jail. That person believes they know what happened to Karena. That is the information they are submitting to us, yes," said Ianson.

Karena's father admits she had drug addiction issues, but he hopes the private investigators and the reward will lead to her whereabouts.

"It has to lead to a full closure on the case. It has to be people getting sentenced. Convictions have to happen. She has to be turned up. It can't go lingering where she has gone. It has to be a closed-out case 100 percent," said John McClerkin.

Kokomo police say they are still following leads.

"We have not given up, no, not a cold case. This is not a cold case. We are actively continuing this investigation, and we are working on this investigation every day," said Capt. Brian Seldon, Kokomo Police Department.

The private investigators believe the leads are inside the Howard County Jail.

‘I think they found the body of that girl’: Prison calls link Kokomo man to woman missing since 2016

Court documents reveal that a Kokomo man recently accused of murder has been at the center of the investigation into a missing Kokomo woman since she first vanished in October 2016.

Flint Vincent Farmer, 57, was arrested at a residence in the 600 block of South Purdum by the Kokomo Police Department around 1 p.m. on Monday. Farmer is charged with one count of murder in connection to the disappearance of 18-year-old Karena McClerkin.

McClerkin was last seen on Oct. 11, 2016.

“She walked into a house on S. Washington, the 1000 block, and she never walked out supposedly,” McClerkin’s grandmother previously said.

Court documents now reveal that home on S. Washington Street to be an apartment where Farmer was living at the time. McClerkin’s mother told police just two days after her daughter’s disappearance that McClerkin had been at Farmer’s apartment on Oct. 11, 2016. Officers responded to the apartment but didn’t locate McClerkin. Farmer told police McClerkin had been outside in the alley but never came inside.

Surveillance footage obtained from the Village Pantry, however, showed Farmer, McClerkin and a third individual visiting the convenience store at around 10 p.m. on Oct. 11, 2016. The three left at approximately 10:32 p.m.

Multiple other witnesses told police McClerkin was at Farmer’s apartment on that fateful night as well. Some of the witnesses even reported hearing Farmer and a woman “wrestling” in a room in the apartment. Some reported the sounds of a woman “being hurt.”

McClerkin’s mother informed police on Oct. 17, 2016, that she had recorded a phone conversation with an individual who said that McClerkin had stolen approximately $600 from Farmer’s safe. Farmer and McClerkin were also alleged to be involved in Xanax deals, according to witnesses investigators spoke to.

According to court documents, police also spoke with an individual in February 2017 who claimed someone saw a person who was covered up lying on Farmer’s floor on the morning of Oct. 12, 2016.

Substantially redacted court documents don’t mention police returning to the S. Washington apartment to search for clues into McClerkin’s disappearance until June 30, 2022.

Further leads against Farmer came from his own mouth, according to the court documents.

The court documents revealed the contents of multiple prison phone calls made by Farmer to different individuals over the course of two years dating back to when he was incarcerated in Howard County Jail in November 2016 on a drug dealing charge.

During one call from Nov. 18, 2016, investigators said Farmer sounded nervous and scared, telling someone to watch the news because he believed “they found the body of the missing girl.”

Another call made the same day by Farmer warned someone to stay away from the S. Washington apartment because “they found that girl”. Someone else Farmer spoke to told him they hadn’t located the missing girl, however, and Farmer told this person to “keep his mouth shut and not say anything.”

Kokomo police chief: Remains found 1 day after arrest in 2016 missing person case

Kokomo police said they found skeletal remains Tuesday night in a rural part of Miami County while investigating the 2016 disappearance of Karena McClerkin and one day after a person was arrested and charged with murder in the case.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Kokomo Police Department Chief Doug Stout said investigators received additional information in the fall of 2021 about her disappearance and began to create a plan to continue to investigate with Indiana State Police.

On Tuesday, Stout said investigators located skeletal remains in a rural area of Miami County while continuing to investigate the case. The remains have been sent to Fort Wayne and McClerkin's mother was notified, Stout said.

“As you can imagine we are very hopeful in the identification process and hope to be able to come to a conclusion of this ongoing investigation," Stout said.

On Monday, Flint Farmer, 57, was arrested and charged with one count of murder, Stout said. Additional arrests are anticipated, Stout said.

I feel sorry for his son. Here is what he posted on FB after his father's arrest:

    Hello everyone!
I appreciate those who have reached out to me to make sure that I and my immediate family are okay, and I understand the anger and hateful comments and messages that I and my immediate family have received, and it’s totally justified.
My heart goes out to the family involved, I am so sorry that our families have been intertwined under these circumstances. My heart is shattered, I can’t make sense of this for any reason. I don’t know any details about anything so I’m sorry I won’t be able to provide a solace, but I believe whatever it is that needs to be done will be the right thing and hopefully, hopefully, this can all be resolved one way or another.
In the meantime I ask that you please respect mine and my families privacy as we try and process all of this. Much love to all of you.

They have confirmed that it is her.

    https://www.foxnews.com/us/indiana-p...6-man-arrested

Indiana police say that the body of a girl who was missing since 2016 was found in a rural part of the state.

Karena McClerkin, who was 18 at the time that she went missing, was last seen on October 11, 2016, and was reported missing on October 13, 2016.

The Kokomo Police Department said in a Facebook post that officers have continuously tried to find the missing girl, and received a tip in the fall of 2021 with information surrounding McClerkin's disappearance and events that took place afterward.
Police found skeletal remains in the area on July 19, which were sent to a forensic pathologist, who confirmed that the remains belonged to McClerkin.

Officials are still determining the cause of death, according to WRTV.
