Little Information in Search for Missing Memphis Mother Keila Freeman

The disappearance of Keila Freeman continues to grow more puzzling as the days now turn to a week since she was last seen.

Keila, 29, and a mother of two, was reportedly last seen in the early hours of Tuesday, September 6 at her home in the Hickory Hill neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee.

According to a police affidavit obtained by NBC affiliate WMC, Keila's husband, Randall Freeman, told investigators he last saw his wife around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday when she arrived home. But after pulling her car into the garage, she did not come inside.

It was around 6:00 a.m. when he called Keila's mother saying he couldn't locate her. When she arrived at the Freeman home, Keila's mother found her daughter's keys still in the ignition of the car and her purse on the coffee table inside.

The jeans Keila had reportedly been wearing were found on the floor, her debit card in one of the pockets, according to the affidavit.

In a twist police say is unrelated, Keila's husband Randall has since been charged with arson. One day before his wife vanished, Randall is reportedly seen on security video throwing a flaming object into the home of a family of five about a mile and a half from his and his wife's home.

Authorities say all five people in the home escaped unharmed. Randall is being held on $500,000 bail in that case. The relationship between Randall and those in the home is not clear.

Investigators have called Keila's disappearance 'suspicious,' but have not said if foul play is suspected. Authorities spent several hours at the Freeman home last Wednesday, leaving with a computer and several other items.

But as to what clues they've uncovered, they are saying very little.

"Because it's a very active case, there is not a lot we can release at this time," Lt. Tony Mullins, of the Memphis Police Department, told Dateline.

While the official investigation ticks on, Keila's family, friends and neighbors push forward on their own. Over the weekend, about 50 volunteers met in front of Keila's home for a short vigil, before heading to pound the pavement in search of her. Messages of well-wishes are plastered across Facebook in the hope that someone, anyone, saw something that could help.

"We're just still hoping and praying and, as a mother, we're just still wishing Keila comes back home," Latonya Herman, a friend and neighbor of Keila, told WMC.

Keila Freeman is described as 5'1" tall, weighing 180 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes.

If you have any information regarding her whereabouts, you are urged to call the Memphis Police Department at (901) 636-3300.
I am not even sure how they would legally do this if she hadn't given someone power of attorney beforehand. She's only been missing 3 freaking months!

Family sells home of woman missing for months

It has been three and a half months since Keila Freeman was last seen.

Now WREG learned her family put her Hickory Hill home, which was in her mom?s name, up for sale a few weeks ago.

It has since been sold, and the new residents have moved in.

Freeman has been missing since early September, and authorities said the circumstances in the case were suspicious.

Family and friends agreed, saying her disappearance doesn?t add up, and she wouldn?t leave her young son and daughter behind.

Sounds like her arsonist husband killed her. As far as selling the house, it was in her mother's name and I can only imagine she was unable to keep up with the mortgage.

Not exactly a good sign that the last person to see her is bold enough to throw a molotov cocktail in a family's home. The best case scenario is that she ran away to escape their relationship, though it seems unlikely.

A body found in southeast Memphis is believed to be Keila Ashford Freeman, sources told FOX13.

Freeman, 29, was reported missing on September 5, 2016. The missing mother of two has not been seen since. There is an active police scene in the area of Barnstable Road and Keynon Drive. This is where police found the body.

According to FOX13 sources, the body recovered is that of Keila Ashford Freeman. However, police will likely wait for an official autopsy before confirming the identity.

The main suspect in her disappearance has been her husband, Randall Freeman. FOX13 has learned Randall Freeman recently provided information about Keila?s whereabouts as part of an agreement.

All those charges surround the firebombing of a family?s home, which police said he attempted twice before successfully setting it on fire. Freeman was indicted for four separate incidents.

Detectives said Freeman threw Molotov cocktails at a home three different times while kids were inside. He is charged with 13 counts of attempted first degree murder, two counts of attempted aggravated arson, and one count of aggravated arson.

The last time Freeman allegedly tried to firebomb the house, police wrote ?the interior of the house was engulfed in flames.?

That was on September 4 2016, just one day before his wife Keila Ashford Freeman, 29, disappeared.

I'm going to guess that the husband led authorities to her body as part of a plea deal. They still haven't officially confirmed that the remains are hers, but I don't think there is any doubt.

The husband of missing woman Keila Ashford Freeman was back in court Friday.

Randall Freeman is charged with 13 counts of attempted first-degree murder and multiple counts of attempted aggravated arson.

Keila’s name was never mentioned in court Friday, but Judge Coffee told Freeman that he is looking at far more prison time for the arson charges than he would be for first-degree murder.

Attorneys on both sides could not talk specifics, but multiple parties, including the judge, implied the deal involved information about Keila.

The judge told Randall he was running out of time.

“You need to make a decision about what you want to do,” said Judge Coffee. “Make sure you think long and hard about any offers that the state has made.”

Freeman said he did not have the money and was ruled indigent. He is due back in court in two weeks, at which point he will have made a decision about whether to accept the state’s offer or reject it.
