Lee Kaplan had 12 girls living in his home

An eastern Pennsylvania man is facing child sex assault charges after police say they found 12 girls living in his home. He allegedly admitted to fathering the youngest child -- a six-month-old -- and a three-year-old child with the oldest girl, 18.

Police arrested 51-year-old Lee Kaplan at his home in Feasterville, about 20 miles northeast of Philadelphia, June 16 after receiving a complaint about the health and safety of numerous children in the home. According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Lower Southampton Township Police Department, a resident at the home told neighbors that no children lived there.

When police responded, they discovered the 12 girls. They allege Kaplan admitted to having sex with the teen when she was 14 and fathering the three-year-old as well as the six-month-old. The 18-year-old also told police that she was the mother of two of the children and said she was not married to Kaplan, according to the affidavit.

CBS Philly reports police believe all of the children are originally from an Amish community in Lancaster County. Police say they are working to find an expert in Amish culture to help them conduct interviews with the children. Police say the 18-year-old was living with Kaplan after some kind of business agreement with the girl's parents. The couple is reportedly also under arrest.

The Bucks County Courier-Times reports the former Amish couple "gifted" the 18-year-old girl to Kaplan because they were facing "financial ruin" when they left the Amish community.

Authorities reportedly don't have birth certificates for any of the children and say they weren't enrolled in any schools.

Kaplan is charged with statutory sex assault, indecent assault of a person under 16, corruption of minors and unlawful contact with a minor. All of the children have been removed from the home and are in the custody of child protective services.

I live in Amish country. It's def. NOT unusual to see an older man with a younger wife and a bunch of kids. I don't think the Amish look at the whole "age" thing.

An Amish Pennsylvania couple who say they gifted their 14-year-old daughter to a man who helped save their farm have been arrested along with the man in question, court papers say.
Daniel Stoltzfus, 43, and his wife Savilla Stoltzfus, 42, gave their daughter, who is not being named, to 51-year-old Feasterville man Lee Kaplan in 2012, court papers said. They then apparently moved in with him.
All three were arrested Thursday after child welfare workers discovered that Kaplan's home housed 11 other girls aged between six month and 18 years, two of whom he had fathered with the couple's daughter, CBS Pennsylvania reported.
Officials were called to Kaplan's home on the 400 block of Old Street Road after a neighbor complained about child abuse in the house, CBS said.
Inside, officers found Kaplan and all 12 girls. The couple, whose given address is 75 miles away in Quarryville, Lancaster County, were apparently living there too, a police officer said.
However, it's not known how long they had been living there, why they moved in or what had happened to their own home in the meantime.
The Stoltzfuses told police they were going to lose their farm until Kaplan 'came out of the blue and saved them from financial ruin' around four years ago, said Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler.
In return, the couple gave Kaplan their daughter, who was then 14, an affidavit said.
Daniel Stoltzfus said that he thought the transaction was legal after researching online, according to the affadavit.
Kaplan impregnated the 14-year-old almost immediately after she entered his home, according to court papers, and again when she was 17 years-old.
The girl is now 18, police said, and her three-year-old and six-month-old children were living in Kaplan's house. According to the criminal complaint, Savilla Stoltzfus was aware that Kaplan was having sex with her daughter.

You think? If the 3 year old didn't give it away, the 6 month old probably did.

Sounds like the Amish actually shunned them.

Reports indicate that Daniel and Savilla Stoltzfus knew Kaplan as early as 2003. The couple filed a federal law suit in 2009 against Old Order Amish Helping Program in an attempt to prevent their eviction from the family’s farm property. Stoltzfus stated at the time that in 2003 business dealings with a Jewish man, named as Lee Kaplan, in part led to the Amish church shunning him and trying to ruin his business.

The same law suit indicates the Amish church made allegations that Stoltzfus was abusing his children and keeping wife Savilla against her will.

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. -- The mother of six girls a Pennsylvania man is accused of having assaulted, fathering two children by one, says she knew about the sexual activity but believed it "could be a good thing."

Lee Donald Kaplan, 52, is on trial in Bucks County on numerous charges of rape and sexual assault.

Police arrested Kaplan at his home in Feasterville, about 20 miles northeast of Philadelphia, in June 2016 after receiving a complaint about the health and safety of numerous children in the home. When police responded, they discovered 11 girls living there. Kaplan allegedly admitted to police that he fathered the two youngest children ? a 3-year-old and a 10-month-old ? with the oldest girl, who was 18, according to CBS Philly.

The others were the daughters of a Lancaster County couple who had broken away from the Amish community, investigators later said. Police say the girls' father told them he and his wife "gifted" one of their daughters to Kaplan after he financially helped the couple.

Testifying Wednesday, the girls' 43-year-old mother said that she and her family viewed Kaplan as a prophet.

When the family fell on hard times financially and were evicted from their Kirkwood home in 2009, the two older girls were sent to live with Kaplan. The mother said the couple had promised Kaplan that their second-oldest daughter, then 9, would be his wife when she was older, according to Lancaster Online. But the mother said she understood they wouldn't have sex until the girl was 18.

According to Lancaster Online, the mother testified she was "a little shaken" when she found out in 2013 her oldest daughter, 14 at the time, was pregnant with Kaplan's child. She said she didn't know the two were in a relationship or that the daughter was pregnant until she was about to give birth, according to Philly.com. But she reportedly said she saw her daughter loved Kaplan and was well, and eventually she "accepted it as the way it is," according to Lancaster Online.

As we all well know and understand, we're familiar with [Kaplan] and his ways, and we understand that he's always motivated to follow the leading of God," the mother reportedly testified.

Kaplan eventually made it clear he would take all six of the oldest girls as "wives," though the parents never specifically agreed to it, the mother testified, according to Philly.com. The mother said she too eventually moved in with Kaplan as one of his wives, Lancaster Online reports.

Kaplan reportedly believed his relationships with the six sisters were dictated by God through dreams, reports Philly.com. The mother testified when she saw Kaplan taking her daughters to bed, she believed he was teaching them how to live in the outside world and that it was meant to be, reports Philly.com.
I always trusted him that whatever goes on is a good thing," the mother said.

She at times became jealous of her daughters, writing to her husband that Kaplan was forcing her to compete with them for his affection, reports Philly.com.

Deputy District Attorney Kate Kohler argued that Kaplan "brainwashed" the family seeking "power, manipulation and control."

"Six children became his victims. Six children became his sex toys," Kohler said Wednesday.

Bucks County District Attorney Matthew Weintraub said as he announced charges in October that Kaplan groomed the children to believe he was a prophet "for a horrible purpose."

"He played on their trust and affection for him and he groomed them to see him as a religious and cult-like figure," Weintraub said.

The girls' mother said she had no regrets because "we had a good life."

The parents were convicted of child endangerment and are awaiting sentencing. CBS News is not identifying the parents to protect the identities of the girls.

Defense attorney Ryan Hyde says Kaplan was married to the oldest daughter in the family's eyes and the other children loved him.

Hyde told jurors that the family saw Kaplan had money and saw a better life for their daughters, reports CBS Philly. He said the couple fabricated the rape and molestation allegations when they realized they could be in legal trouble and might lose their children, the station reports.

All the adults involved in this should be in jail. The girls need treatment, support systems, and families that will love them and allow them to be kids. This is some sick fucking shit and there is no excuse good enough for it.
