STOCKTON, Calif. (KTLX) ? A Modesto police officer shot a double-homicide suspect in Stockton Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting took place near Sherwood Forest Park.

The police investigation led officers to Stockton, where they found the suspect.

Police officials will not say what led up to the shooting nor who the suspect is.

FOX40 did speak with a witness who heard the gunshots.

?I heard multiple gunshot rounds. What sounded like a very large caliber first, like a bomb, then the gun rounds and then another large caliber. And people started running out of the park. There were people with their children, one woman was carrying a small child,? Fred Gobbell told FOX40.

The streets near Sherwood Forest Park remained closed while the shooting investigation continued Tuesday.

MODESTO, Calif. (KTXL) ? Two people died and another was seriously injured after a shooting in Modesto Friday night.

The Modesto Police Department said the shooting happened just before 9 p.m. on Semple Street near Jones Street.

?When officers arrived, they found three adult victims suffering from gunshot wounds. They were transported to a local hospital. Two succumbed to their injuries. One is expected to survive but is in serious condition,? said Modesto Police spokeswoman Sharon Bear.

Bear told FOX40 that investigators combed the scene throughout the night looking for any evidence that would point them to a suspect.

?We don?t have a suspect description right now,? Bear said.

As police search for clues, the families of the victims are trying to process what happened.

?I?m heartbroken, I?m sad, I?m mad,? said Rick Haines who told FOX40 that two of his nephews were shot.

Haines said one of his nephews died and the other is in the hospital fighting for his life.

According to Haines, the one of the victims who was shot and killed was the longtime girlfriend of the nephew who survived.

?Don?t have no clue. I don?t know why they would come and take somebody?s life like that,? Haines said. ?Far as I know, nobody had no nothing against them had no reason to kill them.?

Detectives were back out in the neighborhood Saturday talking to neighbors and asking for the public?s help.

?If you?ve witnessed something or you have information, you know, help us solve this crime, call crime-stoppers and give us your tips,? Bear said.

Haines said he not only wants answers, he wants justice for all three victims.

?I want to find out who did it. And I don?t want to threaten nobody, but I hope that cops find out who it is and if not, they better hope God deals with them,? Haines said.

If anyone witnessed or has any information about the shooting, call Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636.

Update one of the victims has been identified as Brandon Wheeler (__) Thread is heading to Non-MDS thanks.

MODESTO (CBS13) – A community is in mourning after a deadly shooting in Modesto took the lives of two people and left another to fight for his life in the hospital.

A memorial of candles and flowers grew throughout Saturday afternoon and evening at the Modesto home where the three people were shot. Neighbors believe the victims were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Family members have identified one of the victims as Brandon Wheeler. His brother, Jimmy Wheeler, was teary-eyed as he remembered his sibling as a great father figure.

“He was a great guy. He’s got three kids,” Wheeler said. “He turned his life around. He was just a big teddy bear.”

Wheeler said the surviving victim is his cousin, who is recovering in the hospital and is in critical condition.

“He’s expected to survive,” he said. “I pray to God he does and he’s seen something.”

At the growing memorial, Debra and Keith Huggins placed candles in memory of the victims. The couple is very close to the family and celebrated Brandon’s birthday with him only days before the shooting.

“You would never dream of this happening to anybody like that,” Huggins said.

A few homes down from the memorial, at a different house, a window was riddled with bullet holes. Just across the street, Victoria Webster heard several gunshots and believes Brandon and the other two victims were simply caught in the crossfire.

“They had nothing to do with it,” Webster said. “They weren’t the target. They were just in the wrong place.”

Though, Modesto police have not said that for certain – as they are in the early stages of the investigation. But a day after the shooting, Wheeler said the family still has more questions than answers.

“We don’t know what the hell happened,” Wheeler said. “Were they innocent bystanders? That’s what we’re assuming.”

Wheeler is begging anyone who knows something to come forward.

“Whether it’s here for by God, justice will be served,” he said.

At this point, it’s not clear if there are any suspects, motives or leads. But Modesto police say they are looking for witnesses. Anyone who saw something or knows something is asked to call Crimestoppers at 209-521-4636.

Age from Brandon Wheeler is (40) and Age of Emilia (29) in this report.

The victims in Friday night’s triple shooting near downtown Modesto have been identified by family as cousins Brandon Wheeler and Jimmy Sullivan and Jimmy’s fiancee, Emilia.

The three were shot in front of a home in the 200 block of Semple Street, a few blocks north of Downey Avenue, after returning from a drive-in movie in Ceres Friday night.

Sullivan and Emilia’s children from previous relationships were in the house when the shooting occurred but were not harmed, said Jimmy Wheeler, brother to Brandon Wheeler and cousin to Jimmy Sullivan.

Brandon Wheeler, 40, and Emilia, 29, died from their injuries. Sullivan was hospitalized and is expected to survive.

The Bee is not using Emilia’s last name because it could not be confirmed through family members.

“Jimmy, he’s been through so much in his life ... for him to lose his fiancee and cousin and survive; it will be unimaginable the pain he will suffer,” said Jimmy Wheeler.

He said both his brother and cousin have had some rough patches in life but they are good people.

”We want prayers and thoughts to go out to our family,” Jimmy Wheeler said.

There were candles and flowers around the pathway to Sullivan and Emilia’s home on Monday.

One neighbor said Emilia looked out for the elderly people in the neighborhood. She regularly checked on one woman and brought her food and another she gave her recyclables to so she could have some extra cash.

The family was last together to celebrate Brandon Wheeler’s 40th birthday less than two weeks ago at his Oakdale home, said their cousin, Marcus Rojas.

“None of them deserve this, it is tough for our family ... it is not just one (family member) it is three,” Rojas said.

A Go Fund Me has been established to help cover Brandon’s funeral expenses.

No suspect information or motive has been released by Modesto Police.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636 or Detective Joshua Grant at 209-342-9104.

Apparently the person of interest is killed by Modesto Police and is under investigation by San Joaquin County.

Investigating Friday’s double homicide, a Modesto Police Department detective shot a suspect in the case near a Stockton park on Tuesday, according to officials.

Spokeswoman Sharon Bear said detectives were in the area investigating the fatal shootings on Semple Street when they made contact with one of the suspects, who was armed.

Bear said she did not have any information on what triggered the incident near Sherwood Forest Park or the condition of the person who was shot.

No MPD law enforcement officers were injured.

The shooting occurred around noon near the park just east of the Sherwood Mall Shopping Center.

There was crime scene tape at the northeast end of the park starting at the corner of West Robinhood Drive and North Sherwood Way.

Police have been investigating a fatal shooting Friday night in the 200 block of Semple. Brandon Wheeler, 40, and Emilia, 29, died after being shot. A third victim, Jimmy Sullivan, also was shot but is expected to survive his injuries.

The Bee is not using Emilia’s last name because it could not be confirmed through family members.

The primary investigation into Tuesday’s shooting will fall to the Stockton Police Department. Other investigations will include the San Joaquin District Attorney’s Office and the state Department of Justice, which is protocol for officer-involved shootings in that county, according to Bear. Modesto police also will review whether its procedures were followed.

We’ll have more on this breaking story as information becomes available.
