Nancy Reagan (94) died of congestive heart failure

Former US first lady Nancy Reagan has died at the age of 94.

Reagan, the wife of the 40th President of the United States Ronald, died at her home in Los Angeles on Sunday morning, the Ronald Reagan Library confirmed.

Mrs Reagan died of a congestive heart failure.

She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, the library said.

After conservative Republican Ronald Reagan was elected in 1981 as the oldest ever president, aged 69, Mrs Reagan became one of the most influential first ladies in US history.

"I see the first lady as another means to keep a president from becoming isolated," she said in 1985.

"I talk to people. They tell me things. And if something is about to become a problem, I'm not above calling a staff person and asking about it. I'm a woman who loves her husband and I make no apologies for looking out for his personal and political welfare."

The pair had two children, author Patti Davis, born in 1952, and radio host Ron Reagan, born in 1958.

She became a strong advocate for discovering a cure for Alzheimer's disease, which Ronald Reagan struggled with from the early 1990s until his death in 2004, aged 93.

As Nancy Davis, she was a Hollywood actress during the 1940s and 1950s and married Reagan, a prominent film actor, in 1952.

She then served as first lady of California during her husband's stint as California governor from 1967 to 1975 before moving into the White House after his decisive victory over incumbent Democratic President Jimmy Carter in 1980.

Her official White House biography quotes her as saying, "My life really began when I married my husband".
Republican Party leaders paid tribute Sunday.

"With the passing of Nancy Reagan, we say a final goodbye to the days of Ronald Reagan," wrote 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney on Facebook.

"With charm, grace, and a passion for America, this couple reminded us of the greatness and the endurance of the American experiment. ... God and Ronnie have finally welcomed a choice soul home."

Rest in Peace, Mrs. Reagan. I'm personally taken aback that those who admired your husband so much have done so much to urinate on his legacy. Thank you so much for the work you have done for those with Alzheimer's, for your "Just Say No" campaign. If you saved one life, made one person rethink their choices, then it was all worthwhile.
Don't like what I have to say? I respect that. Go fuck yourself.
