All members of indi rock band Viola Beach died in a car accident

All four members of British indie rock band Viola Beach and their manager died in a car accident Saturday en route to play a sold-out show, police said.

The Warrington band?s van fell off a bridge in Stockholm around 2:30 a.m. in the morning and plunged more than 25 feet into a canal, according to the BBC. The crash killed every member of the band ? drummer Jack Dakin, frontman Kris Leonard, bassist Tomas Lowe and guitarist River Reeves ? as well as manager Craig Tarry.

The victims ranged in age from 20 to 35, police said. Authorities have not released a cause for the crash, citing an ongoing investigation. Local media reported the bridge had just opened to allow a vessel to pass, and was closing at the time of the crash.
The band played Sweden?s Where Is The Music? festival Friday. They were due in Guildford Saturday to open for the band Blossoms in a sold-out show at the Boiler Room venue. The club said on Facebook Saturday the show was postponed ?due to unforeseen circumstances.?

Viola Beach released a debut single, ?Swings & Waterslides,? last year. Another single, ?Boys That Sing,? followed in January. The band had a steady schedule of United Kingdom shows planned through February and March, according to its Facebook page. Earlier this month, Viola Beach announced they were selected to perform at this year?s South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.

As far as I know, usually those bridges have arms and alarms that prevent you from crossing until it's safe, but then again it's another Country so who knows. Very sad.

I Love the music....the vocals not so much.

The news here were reporting that the section of bridge just lifts up leaving a hole in the road rather than tilts. There was a barrier, flashing lights, alarms and a queue of stationary traffic. Apparently they blew right past all of this at about 45mph, clipped a car and flew off of the bridge.

Witness Jonny Alexandersson told Aftonbladet: 'Suddenly there's a car that pushes past and drives live a maniac. It drives down the left side in towards the barrier. It was driving at least 70-80km/h (45-50mph).

'That's very fast when the rest of us are standing still. He caught the rear-view mirror on a taxi.'
Swedish police have said there were no faults with the bridge's system, its warning lamps were flashing, there are several signs warning there is a bridge opening, and two barriers were blocking the road.

    From the link Leap shared:

Swedish police have said there were no faults with the bridge's system, its warning lamps were flashing, there are several signs warning there is a bridge opening, and two barriers were blocking the road.

Inspector Martin Bergholm said: 'For some reason, the car drove through the barriers and crashed down into the canal.'

Strangeness and it makes you wonder if it was alcohol related.

EXCLUSIVE - What REALLY happened in Viola Beach death crash: How police 'ignored' TWO emergency calls, the band members were NOT wearing seatbelts and why the driver didn't stop after smashing through barrier

Four members of British band and tour manager died in Sweden last month
Their car plunged 80ft from a bridge in Sodertalje, just south of Stockholm
Kris Leonard, 20, River Reeves, 19, Jack Dakin, 19, Tom Lowe, 27, and the band's manager Craig Tarry, 33, all died in the tragedy
The band's Nissan Qashqai smashed through two sets of safety barriers
Car then collided with raised section of the bridge, killing two passengers in the front instantly
Three passengers sat in the back also killed were not wearing seatbelts
None of the Nissan Qashqai's airbags were deployed in the crash
Key eyewitness told MailOnline police explanation for the tragedy is wrong

Four young musicians in Viola Beach were left in a freezing canal for over an hour when their car plummeted 80ft off a bridge after bungling Swedish police ?ignored? two emergency calls, bringing fresh heartache to their families, MailOnline can reveal.
The emergency services did not respond until the third call because a monitor operator at the bridge failed to notice the crash, causing a 24-minute delay in reaching the victims.
Swedish police took no action on the first call at 2.17am or on the second call ten minutes later at 2.27am.
It was not until 2.41am ? a full 39 minutes after the crash ? when a witness told them the barrier was broken because a car had driven through it that police finally took action.
In addressing the shocking delay and explaining why police failed to respond to reports of a broken barrier on the bridge, Stockholm Police spokesman Kjell Lindgren admitted: ?That kind of information is not something that makes us jump out of our pants so to speak. It was a usual very busy Saturday morning.?

MailOnline can today reveal the fullest account so far of the horrific incident that killed all four members of the band and their manager, who was apparently driving the rented Nissan Qashqai when it drove into the water in the early hours of February 13.
It comes after Swedish police triggered a storm of protest by appearing to tell journalists the driver of the car acted 'deliberately' by driving off the bridge. The claim has since been retracted.
MailOnline has pieced together the events of the night by speaking extensively to the chief investigating officer and key witness, and viewing CCTV of the tragedy that has not been released to the public.
Two members of the public called police after the band's car smashed through two sets of barriers and shot off the edge of the E4 bridge near Stockholm, plunging into the water below.

On both occasions, police told the callers there was 'nothing to worry about', after contacting the bridge operator who had failed to notice the debris on the road. It was only when a third call came through that a patrol car was dispatched, resulting in the delay of 24 minutes.
MailOnline can also confirm that the roof of the car was sliced off by the central section of the bridge, which had been raised to allow an oil tanker to pass underneath.

It can be disclosed that the three men in the back seat were not wearing seatbelts.
It is likely that all five men suffered catastrophic injuries on impact and were killed before the car somersaulted into the canal.
The body of one of the men was found outside of the car and was the last to be recovered, according to police. He died from internal bleeding.
The delay by emergency services meant that the bodies of the four members of the band and their manager, all from Warrington, Cheshire, were not retrieved from the S?dert?lje canal until an hour-and-a-quarter after the accident.
Chief investigator Detective Inspector Lars Berglund told MailOnline: 'The two in the front seat were killed instantly when the bridge hit them, causing fatal head injuries.3

'But the three in the back were not wearing seatbelts so they were thrown around. Two of them also suffered fatal head injuries from the bridge, but one was bending forward and the bridge did not hit him full force, so his injuries were not so severe. He died from internal bleeding.'

In a further twist, MailOnline has learned that police are now working on a theory that the Nissan Qashqai's cruise control system may have been to blame for the car speeding over the edge of the bridge.
?There might have been something wrong with the automatic system, and that is a question for Nissan to answer,? said Detective Inspector Berglund.

'We don't know if they will help us or not,' he said. 'We hope they will help us but they don't have to, as we have no authority over them.'
?It is a delicate matter as I don?t think they are keen for information like that to come out if their cruise control system has not worked properly.?

A Nissan spokesman said: 'We are of course helping local police with their investigation into this tragic situation. We are supporting them with whatever information they need.'
Detective Inspector Berglund admitted that there are avenues of inquiry that they still have not pursued, a month after the tragedy. He did not know whether Craig Tarry, 33, understood to have been driving the car, had his mobile phone in his pocket or whether it had been in use at the time of the crash. The driver's motoring history has also not been investigated.
'We don't know about the driver's past history. Maybe we could ask the British police,' he said. 'We might be able to find out where the phone was found, I can try to find out.'

But it is the revelation of serious delays in reaching the wreckage that will cause most heartache for the families of the victims.
After the crash occurred at 2:02am, police received three emergency calls.
At 2:17am, 15 minutes after the tragedy, police received the first call when a witness said the red and yellow barrier was broken on the bridge.
On the first call the caller was told 'everything is normal'.
That is when Mr Lindgren told MailOnline that reports of a broken barrier is not something that ?makes us jump out of our pants?.
Ten minutes later at 2.27am, a second call was logged and the same thing reported.
On both occasions, officers contacted the bridge operator who was monitoring two CCTV feeds.
The operator, who cannot be named, had not noticed the accident as he had been 'concentrating on other screens', and failed to spot the broken barriers and debris on the road.

It was not until 2.41am, almost 40 minutes after the smash, when the caller said the barrier was broken because a car had driven through it ? and that the barrier was ?hanging out? on the left hand lane - that dispatched patrol cars.
It wasn?t until the third call that the operator zoomed in on the scene and saw the broken barrier.
?We realise how serious this is and directly send four cars and alert the emergency services to come to the bridge with divers,? said Mr Lindgren.
A specialist rescue team arrived at 3am, by which time Kris Leonard, 20, River Reeves, 19, Jack Dakin, 19, Tom Lowe, 27, and manager Craig Tarry, 33, had been in the water for an hour. All were dead.

Admitting there had been delays in responding to the tragedy, Detective Inspector Berglund said: 'The operator was concentrating on another screen which showed the bridge, as it is a difficult task to open it in a balanced way.
'He didn't see the accident. When the first two calls came in, he looked at the screens but he didn't notice the broken barrier, so he told the police that everything was fine.'

In response to suggestions of police incompetence, the chief investigator said: 'I cannot comment about that. It was the emergency services' call to make.'
The accident occurred at 2:02am on Saturday, February 13. The weather was cold and dry, and Viola Beach had just played their first gig in Europe.
Mystery surrounds why the car made no attempt to stop as it smashed through two sets of 13-ft-long, red-and-yellow barriers before plunging over the edge of the bridge.
There were also flashing lights, a bell, triangular warning signs and digital speed limit displays as far as five kilometres down the motorway to warn oncoming traffic that the bridge was being raised.
The speeding Nissan apparently ignored all of these.
CCTV footage seen by MailOnline shows that the driver applied the brakes only briefly as he swerved onto the narrow hard shoulder at high speed before smashing through the barrier, which had already been lowered for several minutes.
The car was clearly speeding but did not appear out of control.
The key witness, Kent Udd?n, 49, who was sitting in his grey Saab at the front of the queue when Viola Beach's Nissan shot past, told MailOnline: 'Nobody could have mistaken the hard shoulder for a lane. It was too narrow. I was astonished that the guy didn't hit my car or the kerb.
'This guy managed in some way to manoeuvre his car at high speed in a narrow area. You need to be a really good driver to pass that space without hitting anything.
'It was really scary how he did it. It was at such high speed that I could feel my car vibrate as he shot past. He came so close. It felt really bad, really dangerous, for sure.'

I had a Jeep Cherokee that had that problem. It would start speeding up for no reason. The gas pedal would literally depress itself to the floor without my foot even being on it and it was indeed my cruise control malfunctioning. However, the second I would hit the brakes, it would slow down and disengage. I would buy the CC malfunction, but why didn't he hit the brakes or even slam it in to Neutral or Park?

ETA: By the sounds of it, they were decapitated
