Albert Ahn Los Angeles: Albert Ahn Killed In Los Angeles McLaren Car Accident Along West Sixth Street In Hancock Park ?> Support The Korean American Special Education Center (KASEC) Through Go Fund Me

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (June 16, 2020) ? A passenger in a McLaren sports car tragically died in a car accident along West Sixth Street after the driver hit a tree.

Los Angeles police officials are saying that the accident took place around 11:33 p.m. on Friday. For reasons that remain under investigation the driver of a McLaren collided with a tree in Hancock Park not far from Mayor Eric Garcetti?s official residence.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim. A passenger identified as Albert Ahn and the driver were extricated from the McLaren and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Despite life-saving measures Albert Ahn later died due to his injuries. An investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing at this time.

You can help support the Korean American Special Education Center (KASEC) in memory of the victim through Go Fund Me. According to the Go Fund Me page:

?Albert Ahn unexpectedly passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020 from a fatal car crash. He was a thoughtful and life-giving son, brother, and friend. He was always optimistic and caring, with a million dollar smile that was highly contagious. He made friends everywhere he went and valued each friendship so dearly.

All funeral costs have already been paid for by a generous party. Therefore, on behalf of his work and friends, in the most devastating and humble of circumstances, we have setup this GoFundMe campaign to ask for any donations to Korean American Special Education Center (KASEC), where Albert had spent some time volunteering while living in Los Angeles, California. The funds from this campaign will be donated directed to the KASEC organization in memory of Albert. ?
Liability In Los Angeles Car Accidents

Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of injury and death in the United States. According to UC Berkeley, based on ?the latest data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an estimated 36,750 people died in motor vehicle crashes in 2018(link is external), a slight decrease of roughly 1.0 percent from the reported fatalities that occurred in 2017. While this decrease is an improvement, there is still much work to be done for ensuring safety on our roadways, especially for vulnerable road users like pedestrians and bicyclists. ? There are a number of common contributing factors to fatal car accidents:

    Prescription drug use
    Traveling too fast for conditions
    Unfamiliarity with roadway
    Roadway problems
    Over-the-counter drug use
    Inadequate surveillance
    Fatigue

Most accidents occur due to a combination of factors. Of course, all drivers have a legal obligation to operate their vehicles according to the prevailing conditions. According to California Vehicle Code 22350, ?No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.? Even driving the speed limit can be dangerous depending on the levels of traffic and other considerations. Drivers should always slow down during:

    Inclement weather
    Heavy congestion
    Reduced visibility
    High pedestrian crossings

Liability for an accident may extend beyond any negligent driver. The manufacturer of a sports car could be liable for an accident if it was caused by some type of defect in the vehicle. Product liability claims typically fall under one of three categories.

Design defects: ?Design defects are inherent, as they exist before the product is manufactured.?
Manufacturing defects: ?Manufacturing defects occur during the construction or production of the item.?
Marketing defects: ?Defects in marketing deal with improper instructions and failures to warn consumers of latent dangers in the product.?

There are numerous potential sources of liability for a McLaren sports car. For example, many sports cars have major stabilization issues. If a car has a history of instability and control issues this could point to a major design defect. A car may also be defective if it lacked other safety features like airbags of if the brakes failed. It?s extremely important that evidence is properly preserved and collected after an accident. Here are just a few other potential sources of liability for a car accident:

Roof Crush: Vehicle manufactures must design their vehicle?s roof to be fairly resistant to being crushed. If the roof collapses beyond a certain limit this could indicate a design defect.
Unintended Acceleration: Many cars unexpectedly and dangerously accelerate. This can happen for many different reasons.
Dangerous Modifications: Many McLarens and other sports cars get after market modification. However, certain modifications such as raising or lowering a vehicle can make it more unstable and more prone to accidents. The car shop that performed the dangerous modifications could potentially be liable for an accident.

The family of any victim that died in a car accident may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. In order to win a civil claim plaintiffs will have to prove negligence:

The defendant owed the victim a legal duty of care
The defendant breached that legal duty
The breach was the proximate cause of the plaintiff?s injuries
    The plaintiff sustained damages

Beneficiaries in a civil claim may include the victim?s spouse, children, parents and siblings. Unfortunately, car companies will often fight vigorously to deny any liability for a car accident. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what may have caused an accident.
