Lonzie Barton (21 m-o) Missing from Jacksonville apartment July 24 2015

Man who reported Lonzie Barton missing has violent criminal history, documents show

Story updates with more information about investigators at a Laundromat and what the mother's employer had to say.
An Amber Alert has been issued following the early morning disappearance of a 21-month-old boy from a Jacksonville apartment complex, police said.

They are searching for Lonzie Barton, who may have been taken, let loose or wandered off during a car theft Friday.

Police said the toddler was last seen wearing only a diaper and could not be found after his mother's boyfriend's car was taken at Ravenwood Apartments in the 8000 block of South Old Kings Road in the Baymeadows area about 2:20 a.m. Friday. The boyfriend was preparing to pick up the mother from her job at Wacko?s Gentleman?s Club and had the boy and his 5-year-old sister in the car when he went back into the apartment to get something.

The boy's 5-year-old sister then told the boyfriend that she was scared, and he went outside to find the car and toddler gone, police said. Chief Tom Hackney said he wasn't sure how long William Ebron, 32, was upstairs but didn't think it was too long.

He said police arrived in two minutes and located the 1995 orange Honda Civic in about 15 minutes abandoned with the keys still inside a short distance away in the 8100 block of Cesperdes Avenue.

Police announced shortly after 6 a.m. that an Amber Alert had been issued in conjunction with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Hackney said at a 6:45 a.m. news conference the Amber Alert marks the first in Florida this year. Investigators are going over the recovered Honda Civic, including looking for and processing DNA evidence. It was on a wrecker at 6:50 a.m. and towed later.

A police helicopter also is in the air to aid in the search and a dive team arrived. There's several retention ponds and woods in the vicinity.

Hackney said there was a child safety-seat in the car but investigators aren't sure if Lonzie had been strapped in. He said several scenarios are being considered, but abduction is the primary focus.

It's also possible the toddler could have left the car before it was taken, the person could have let the child out somewhere or some information could be false.

But Hackney said Ebron and the mother, 25-year-old Lonna Lauramore, are cooperating. The biological father in Baker County has been contacted and not considered to be involved, Hackney said at a noon briefing. Lauramore last saw Lonzie about 8 p.m. Thursday.

Hackney did not name the biological father, but court records show Lauramore was married to Christopher Arin Barton in Macclenny in 2009.

The child's grandmother, who lives off a dirt road along the St. Marys River in Macclenny, said she had been up all night and was "exhausted" and did not wish to comment. Other family in Baker County could not be reached.

At last report there was no description of a possible suspect.

Hackney asked area businesses that have surveillance cameras to take a look at their video for any possible clues that might assist police. Police are operating out of a command center at the San Jose Athletic Association on Powers Avenue. At least 50 police cruisers and vehicles are in Athletic Association parking lot. Officers set up this portable shelter, possibly preparing for the long haul as the search for the child continues with local, state and federal resources.

At least two K9 teams have been searching ditches on either side of the apartment complex as well as streets in the adjacent San Jose Manor neighborhood for clues but notwithstanding any apparent success. Police and bloodhounds are scouring the area sifting through trash cans, stooping over on sidewalks. The canvassing area appears to have widened with police checking trash bins well past the area where the car was found.

A group of police officers also are looking into basement windows and talking with neighbors on Ferrarra Street, off South Old Kings Road. About 11 a.m. there also was a massive police presence on a North Sierra Madre Drive, which is also close to the apartment complex where the child was abducted and near where the car was abandoned.

Officers seemed to clear the streets by 11:40 a.m., just ahead of the noon media briefing.

About 1:30 p.m. officers began working inside the Powers Avenue Laundromat, where a store clerk at a nearby convenience store said crime scene investigators had been in morning and also had checked behind the store. At the noon news briefing, Hackney did say the boyfriend had said he had earlier done laundry and got gas, so investigators were trying to retrace his steps.

A homicide sergeant leaving the Laundromat said police are checking surveillance cameras and garbage containers in the event clues might be there. He would not say if the laundry was where Ebron was Thursday night though it is a short drive from the scene.

By 3 p.m. an officer was seen carrying a computer from the strip center where the laundry is located and police temporarily cordoned off a corner of the lot next to it where there appears to be a commercial garbage bin behind a fence. A small item also was removed from a trash bin.

At Wacko's, Lauramore was there Thursday night, a man at the business on Emerson Avenue said Friday. He was not at work at the time but had been told nothing unusual occurred. The bar closes at 2 a.m. and women who work there are escorted to their cars by about 2:30 a.m. He said Lauramore has worked there about three months on an infrequent basis. Dancers work as independent contractors so only work when they want.

Terri Bond, a grandmother of five who lives in the area, said she was concerned about who may have taken the boy. She said she saw an alert on her phone about 6 a.m. that the boy was missing. She said she also gets alerts about sex offenders in the area.

"I'd say there are at least 10 within a two-mile radius of where we are standing," she said near the Ravenwood entrance.

According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, 11 sex offenders or predators live within a mile of Ravenwood. Eight live within a mile of where the car was located on Cesperdes Avenue. Some of those overlap with the 11 near Ravenwood since the locations are so close.

At the complex, police were monitoring drivers as they came and went, apparently making note of license tags before waving the vehicles through.

The area where the child reportedly was kidnapped was less than 1 1/2 miles from a sheriff?s substation.

"It's really scary," said Richard Mooney as he clutched an arm of his young daughter, Savanah. "We are kind of keeping a close eye on her."

Mooney also was keeping his eyes out for any sign of Lonzie.

The Ravenwood resident said police showed him a photo of Lonzie Friday morning and asked if he saw anything. Mooney hadn't.

Still, he felt he needed to do something so he said he's been searching in Dumpsters and in the bushes, "doing anything I can."

Hackney said time is of the essence as they continue to seek leads and encourage the public?s assistance.

Nancy Wani and Cornelius Duot, who arrived in Jacksonville as Sudanese refugees in 1995, spent the morning and early afternoon handing out Amber Alert fliers in the area. Both said they had experienced civil was in their home country and wanted to help.

"This is our community," Wani said.

    Here's the alert:

Court documents revealed a history of violence and abuse allegations by the man who reported the early Friday morning abduction of 21-month-old Lonzie Barton.
He was convicted of misdemeanor domestic battery related to a 2011 case.

Two weeks ago, an ex-girlfriend's family filed a third domestic violence injunction against William Ruben Ebron Jr.

Ebron reported early Friday to police that his car was stolen with Lonzie in it. Police have not named Ebron a suspect. The car has been found, but Lonzie was still missing Friday afternoon.

The most recent injunction against Ebron is dated July 10, and it was filed by his ex-girlfriend's sister. His ex-girlfriend also has filed two injunctions against him. After one injunction, the court required he seek mental-health counseling.

This injunction says that his ex-girlfriend is staying with a family member to seek shelter from him. He has stalked them, the report alleges. He cracked the ribs of one of his ex-girlfriend's family members, the injunction said, and he has threatened the life of his ex-girlfriend's 12-year-old niece. He also raped his ex-girlfriend, the injunction alleged.

He also "is now bragging that he is untouchable to the police and the court system," the injunction said. He "claims he knows the system and he can get away with anything that he does to me, my children and my sister and her children.

A judge approved the injunction, banning him from contacting his ex-girlfriend's family.

He also left "eight indirect threatening voicemails," the injunction said.

Police say the boyfriend, William Ebron Jr., of the mother, Lonna Lauramore Barton, was getting ready to take Lonzie and his 5-year-old sister to pick up their mom from work.

The boyfriend put the children in the car and ran back into the apartment to use cocaine, he told a detective during an interview.

The 5-year-old then came into the apartment and told the man "she's scared." The boyfriend went back outside and that's when he saw the orange 1995 Honda Civic being driven away with Lonzie inside.

Well, there's the kind of person who steals a baby, and there's the kind of person who leaves a 2 y/o and a 5 y/o alone in the car at 2:30 am to go do coke. My guess is they're the same person, if you get my meaning.

As the search for 21-month-old Lonzie Barton continues, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is trying to follow any avenue possible that would lead them to the boy, including looking into the backgrounds of his mother, her boyfriend and their families, though police said they are not suspects.

Shirley Barton, the aunt of Lonzie's father, Christopher Barton, said that there had been some custody issues between her nephew and Lonzie's mother Lonna Barton, since the couple separated a couple of months before.

Shirley said Christopher doesn't own a car and she knows logistically he could not have abducted his son, and wouldn't do something like that.

Shirley described Lonzie as a sweet little boy who is named after Lonna's father.

Christopher, 40, was married to 25-year-old Lonna, whose maiden name is Lauramore, for about five years but they have been separated for two months, Shirley said.

Most of Christopher's family is from Baker County. He is currently in Jacksonville with his father while the search continues for the toddler.

Lonzie Lauramore, Lonna's father, and his wife Debbie have a home in Baker County.

Lonna's cousin, Tina Lauramore, said via Facebook, "Thank you very much, prayers are appreciated! Lord knows we've have already went through this before when another one of my cousin's daughters was abducted, Haleigh Cummings, this hits home very hard for us all."

News4Jax tried to reach out to Haleigh Cummings' family to find out more about the relationship but haven't heard back. Haleigh's grandmother is from Baker County.

Lonna lives in Jacksonville and works at Wacko's Gentleman's Club on Emerson Street and was there Thursday night.

Her current boyfriend, 32-year-old William Ebron, was supposed to pick her up from Wacko's and was taking Lonzie with him.

Ebron put Lonzie in the car and went back inside his home to grab something, when he came back outside, someone was stealing his car with Lonzie inside of it.

Police records show that Lonna has drug possession charges pending against her from a May incident in Baker County. Ebron was with her at the time as well as a Tiffany Barton.

That's also not the first time that Ebron has had a run in with the law. According to records, Ebron has a long list of prior charges, including:

2007 arrest for trespassing and writing bad checks.
2008 arrest for driving with a suspended license
2009 arrest for possession of 20 grams or less of cannabis
2010 arrest for armed robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon and grand theft.
2011 arrest for grand theft as well as fraudulent use of Identification.
2012 arrest for violation of probation and domestic battery causing minor injury with a weapon
There is also a petition for a restraining order against Ebron that was filed on July 10.

Again, police said the mother, her boyfriend and the child's father are not suspects. At this point, they are victims looking for little Lonzie and are being cooperative with police.

What are the chances of 2 abducted children in one family? Haleigh's case is still unsolved isn't it?

Mom and the boyfriend BOTH have long criminal histories.

There are several articles I've found where she's been involved in theft and drugs. Her and boyfriend are co-def in a drug case
    http://article.wn.com/view/2015/07/2...g_drugs_at_th/

Boyfriend was not even supposed to be out after 7pm. Video shows him at a gas station at 12:33AM.
    Here's the arrest affidavit
    http://media.wix.com/ugd/943520_d9e2...ed9c1c20be.pdf

I know mom was at work (some articles say at the restaurant....well, LOL, they do serve food there too.) but I find it really hard not to be pissed at her too. Holy shite. She can't pretend "stupid" on this babysitting decision. She knew this dude was shit.

I hope there is a happy ending to this story, but I fear it's not. Maybe the 5 year old will be able to help with some information??

Who in the hell would steal a bright orange civic?

    Such a cutie pie.

JSO names William Ebron as the suspect, say he knows what happened to Lonzie

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has officially named William Ebron, 32, as the suspect in the abduction case of 21-month-old Lonzie Barton. Lonnie went missing around 2 a.m. Friday. Ebron told police that someone stole his car that he left running, with toddler inside. JSO now says it has evidence that proves Ebron is lying about his car being stolen. Chief Tom Hackney said that finding Lonzie is a matter of Ebron cooperating with investigators.

He has the answers in this case -- we feel -- and I want that from him, and we need that from him, Hackney said.He says police are hopeful, but they need to find Lonzie soon. Give answers to the family. Let us find Lonzie -- hopefully alive -- but if not, Lonzie deserves to be back with his family in whatever shape he is, Hackney said.

Since Friday, more than 60 police officers and dive team members have searched for Barton. Two tips came in on Saturday to where Lonzie might be. One was at the intersection of I-295 and Philips Highway. The second location was by the Avenues Mall. Several areas along Philips Highway are still being searched for Lonzie.
Hackney says Ebron knows where he is, but getting him to tell them is proving difficult.

The victim's family deserves answers. The community deserves answers. One person that has that key to us, hasn't provided that to us, and that is very frustrating, Hackney said.

Hackney said police brought Ebron with them while they checked out several tips Saturday, but Hackney says he is still not providing enough helpful information.

"Ebron is lying to us,” Hackney said of the original story that Lonzie as taken when Ebron's car was stolen when he briefly back inside to get something. “He went back to the apartment to do cocaine. That turns him into part of a monster, to do that.”

He's a little cutie pie. This is the second case of a 2 year old disappearing without a trace as of recent news.

I'm with Bowie, the bf killed him and made up the bullshit abduction story. It is really strange this kid was related to Hailey Cummings.

Old human remains found in business park during search for missing Lonzie
The remains of a man have been uncovered in the woods in a business park near The Avenues mall, found by officers engaged in the fourth day of searching for 21-month-old Lonzie Barton, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff?s Office.
Sgt. Craig Waldrup said the remains were found about 11 a.m. by some of the 200 law enforcement personnel who have been searching for the child since he was reported abducted Friday. The location was about 30 feet off the 10000 block of Fortune Parkway in the Gran Park at The Avenues business park.

'JSO came across the remains of an adult. It appears to be a male body in the woods," Waldrup said. ?... There doesn't appear to be any foul play involved.?

Waldrup said the remains included clothes and had been there a year or two at least ? so long that ferns growing up around it made it difficult to see. The Sheriff's Office is searching the missing-persons files to find a possible match. The body has been sent to the medical examiner for full investigation, the sergeant said.

Police divers searching a pond off Bowden Road near Interstate 95 late Tuesday morning as part of the effort to find 21-month-old Lonzie Barton found a submerged Mazda RX-7 with human remains inside.

JSO Chief of Investigations Tom Hackney said it was connected to a 2003 missing persons case.

Once the car was pulled out of the water, it took firefighters using a pry bar and sledge hammer to get the doors open. It will be up to the medical examiner to identify the remains and determine the cause of death.

"Anytime we find something like this, we proceed as if there was foul play involved," Sgt. Craig Waldrup said. "It doesn't appear to be, at first sight, but we don't rule it out.

While police indicated it will take the to positively identify the remains, the pond is just over one mile from where a 28-year-old U.S. Navy sailor who disappeared on Jan. 31, 2003, was last seen.

    Yaroslav Iventyev
Aviation Machinist’s Mate 3rd Class Yaroslav Iventyev was driving a Maxda RX-7 when he left Russian Moscow Nights restaurant, just off University Boulevard South, after having dinner with friends. He was reported missing when he didn't show up for work the next day at NAS Jacksonville.

His disappearance remains on open case with the NCIS.

On Monday, police found bones of someone dead at least a year in woods across from the Avenues Mall.

"Any time you have this amount of personnel searching an area, you're going to find things you didn't know were there," Waldrup said. "I'm sure there's a possibility of finding some more."

"I said yesterday, when you look, you find," Hackney said in his Tuesday news conference on the search for Lonzie.

Seriously though. If the FBI drained every lake in every state we would find so many missing people. i know it is not plausible but what if...

The local news here shared a surveillance video today that shows the boyfriend, Ebron, moving the car he claimed was stolen with Lonzie in it:

I posted a link here yesterday, but it had to go through approval of an administrator...I guess because I am still brand spanking new and/or a virgin. Oh my.

I live in the area and the local news has released a video (the link to the story was posted yesterday...hopefully it soon is approved) that shows the boyfriend dropping off the car that was supposedly "stolen" and then running back home. So things are not looking good for Ruben Ebron.
