The thing is Allison, *most* mentally ill people wouldn't hurt a fly. Your thinking perpetuates the stigma surrounding mental illness. Nothing has indicated to me that these kids were mentally ill. They sound like budding Sociopaths.
    Agree emphatically.

One of the brothers accused of killing 5 of his family members has pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

Michael and Robert Bever were on the court schedule for arraignment at 1:30 p.m.

During that arraignment, Robert took the stand and pleaded guilty to the charges in exchange for District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler’s agreement not to seek the death penalty against him.

He faces life without parole on five murder counts and life in prison on an assault count.

Kunzeiler said the decision to agree to a plea deal was hard. His office released a statement Wednesday:

Michael Bever's attorney filed a motion to have the charges against him dropped. They argue Michael is not being protected as a youthful offender.

A judge denied the attorney's motion and entered a not guilty plea for Bever after the younger brother did not respond.

A trial is set for June 5.

The Bevers are accused of stabbing six of their family members, killing five of them in Broken Arrow in 2015.

Their house burned down last year.

BROKEN ARROW — The two-story vacant home where five members of the Bever family were murdered in 2015 burned early Saturday in a blaze that tore through the structure.

Broken Arrow firefighters responded about 3:30 a.m. Saturday to the 700 block of Magnolia Court on a call of a structure fire. First-responders reported the home was fully engulfed in flames upon arrival.

Firefighters gained control of the blaze around 4:30 a.m., according to a news release. Crews remained on scene at 9:30 a.m.

Broken Arrow Fire Capt. Derek Fulps said it was too soon to say whether the fire is considered suspicious. Three investigators were on scene after sunrise sifting through the rubble to make a determination as to what sparked the flames.

    No injuries were reported.

The case went to the jury earlier this afternoon. Local reports are that the jury will remain at the courthouse until there is a verdict.

Was anything ever released on the family dynamics? It's hard to believe 2 kids from a happy environment just randomly pulled this egregious shit out of nowhere.

Also, Robert looks a lot less like a weird freak in this vid below. His mugshot is fucking disturbing though

    - & so are his teeth, the entire time I was watching the vid I was too focused on trying to figure out what was up with his teeth to pay attention to what he was saying

    Sorry if it's already posted

The daughter that survived said that her father was a violent person. She said she overheard her parents one day saying that they had been too rough when punishing Michael. The two bothers had spoken about killing people openly and the parents didn't seem to care. The neighbors said the kids were not allowed to interact with other children in the neighborhood. Those are some of the details I can recall from the like 10 articles I read on this case yesterday. It doesn't sound like they had happy lives.

Michael was given life with the possibility of parole for each of the five first degree murder charges. He will return to court in July for formal sentencing.

I've been watching court updates daily. Testimony from the surviving sister was that she believed her father may have been emotionally abusive but not physically abusive. Robert, on the other hand, testified that the father was physically abusive. The children were homeschooled and sheltered but did take part in youth leagues and participated in a bowling league. Robert worked at a call center, which is how he was able to purchase the knives, body armor, guns, and ammunition.

This was a heinous crime, but, to me, the most horrifying part was hearing how Michael tricked the youngest two children into opening the bathroom door by claiming Robert was trying to kill him. After they killed them, he did the same to Daniel who had locked himself in an office. After Daniel cracked open the door, Michael pushed it open, turned to Robert, and said, "He's all yours."

Broken Arrow family killer Robert Bever gets additional life sentences for attempted attack on prison staff

    https://tulsaworld.com/news/local/cr...related-bottom

One of two Broken Arrow brothers who are imprisoned for the murders of five family members was assigned additional life sentences this year.

Robert Bever, now 24, was ordered to serve three life sentences on top of his six others after he attempted to attack prison staff in July 2019 with an 8-inch long “sharpened instrument.”

One of the two staff members Bever approached at Joseph Harp Correctional Center, a social services specialist, wrapped him in a bear hug and ordered him to drop the weapon, a report states.

Information on whether the confrontation resulted in injury to staff or the inmate was redacted in the report, but Bever was charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and one count of possessing a weapon in a penal institution.

He was convicted upon pleading guilty in August, and a Cleveland County judge ordered him to serve three concurrent life sentences that will run consecutively to his previously earned life sentences.

Bever and his younger brother, Michael Bever, plotted for at least a year to kill their family and start a mass-killing spree.

They murdered five of their family members and critically injured another in 2015 before fleeing from police. The teenage sister survived, and the youngest sibling, age 2, was discovered alive in the home, unharmed and apparently forgotten by the brothers.

Parents David Bever, 52, and April Bever, 44, along with three of their children, Daniel Bever, 12, Christopher Bever, 7, and Victoria Bever, 5, died in the attack.

Police found Robert and Michael Bever nearby.

Robert Bever, then 18, was convicted a year later of five counts of first-degree murder and one count of assault and battery with a deadly weapon. He received five life sentences without parole and a life sentence with the possibility of parole.

Michael Bever, 16 at the time of the attack, was convicted in 2018 of five counts of first-degree murder and one count of assault with intent to kill. He received five life sentences and one 28-year sentence. He’s now 22.

The two surviving children were adopted by a Tulsa family, and the Bever home was demolished, making way for a neighborhood park that was dedicated in 2019.

The brothers remain in the Joseph Harp Correctional Center in Lexington, according to online DOC records.
