UMMMMM I WAS AT THE PROM!!! The fucking PROM and had to watch it through ESPN - not the actual game, just kinda a play by play.. i was watching it with 3 students that i know are huge Mets fans like me. I started jumping up and down. Sadly, this is the first time that i actively wished that my grandfather was here to see it. me, him and my dad are HUGE mets fans.
Im so proud, i never thought i would see the day. My dad is in vegas and wasnt able to see it either. GAH!!!
    but whatever, TOO AWESOME!!!

I repped Zo with this, but I just wanted to say that I love how all theNYC'ers on here are Mets fans, like real Mets fans and not Yankee fans. You'd be surprised how many glory hunting bastards out here are Yankee fans.

Side note: I hope the Kings choke on a bag of dicks. Suddenly all the Kings "fans" at work are coming out of the woodwork. Nevermind they probably couldn't name a player and one of them even posted this on Facebook: Go L.A.! Kings 1 Devils 0 .... THE DAY BEFORE THE SERIES STARTED. When I confronted him, he said he was watching a game (probably a rerun) and was probably drunk. Asshole. Lol.

I grew up in Flushing. When a home ru got hit in Shea, and The Home Run Apple went up you could see my building in the background.

Hell, I didn't know NY had another baseball team until I was like 6 or something. Haha.
My folks were old school. They were Dodger fans at first.

And back then (70s-early80s) the "Bronx was burning" and no one was brave enough to go up there to watch games anyway.
I dunno how many Yankee "fans" I met in the 90s that wouldn't dare go to a game. Then after NYC got cleaned up those fuckers got all bold, but mostly its transplants and people from Long Island. There are some native NYC Yankee fans, but they're still a total bandwagon team.

My dad used to pick me up from school early to go to Mets games as a surprise. He had me when he was 23 and he became a comedian when i was 4... turns out he was home bored and figured he'd get me out of school around 1230 and catch a game with his little girl. he mustve done that about 6-7 times before we moved to jersey. He also played softball in Central Park with the comic strip, and so almost every wednesday in june, he'd get me out of school and before his game, he'd throw the ball around with me to warm up.
these are some of the happiest memories i have and it def bred a deep love for the game of baseball and the mets.
I went ALONE to the last day at Shea stadium because my co-worker & son couldnt make it last min. My dad was in Cali at the time so he couldnt make it. i Had to be there for him at least.
and that game is where my deep hate for the Marlins came from LOL.

I'm fully convinced that any Kings fans that come out of the woodwork are bandwagon fans. Hell, I'd bet Chaunce couldn't name me one current player on the team without looking at the paper or googling. And don't try and convince me otherwise, Chaunce. I won't believe you. I've tested the "fans" at work and none of them could answer me. Lol.

That said, I'm reminded of a certain team in 2003 that played amazing as a low seed and upset great teams, and took the winners to seven games in the Finals. This team also made key trade deadline pick ups and rode a hot goaltender.

And that series had a higher viewer rating.

Oh, and we've been to the finals twice in 10 years and one one of them. It took the Kings 26 to make their first and 45 to win it.

So no, I'm not mad bro. Lol.

No i am not a huge hockey fan. However, i have repped the kings on here for years in debates with you and HG and i take them over the ducks any day of the week. And as not a huge fan, i still am aware of who plays for them. I grew up here, played hockey when i was a kid and went to kings games all the time at the forum. I don't have to convince you of anything, but i'll put it this way. Purple and Gold. Remember the days of Dave Taylor and Marcel Dionne as a kid. Remember the shitty Kelly Hrudey, the fresh faced youngster stud defenseman known as Rob Blake, and of course was watching when Mcsorley fucked things up in game 2 of the finals and of course Lucccccccccccccccccccccccc.

So as a casual fan i know a lot more than you think.

And once again, you are obviously mad. Don't hate bro.

You mentioned Marcel Dionne. You passed the test.

    Well played, sir. Hahaha.

I'm not mad, honestly. I mean, even a blind squirrel gets a nut every half century.

To be honest, I think they got their asses in gear when the Clippers started picking up their game.

Penn State has been given its sanctions.

    60 million fine
    4 year post season ban
Vacate all wins from 1998 to 2011
25 scholarships reduced to 15 for 4 years
Students are able to transfer and play football immediately

Im okay with this. People keep complaining they shouldnt be punishing current students, but its more about punishing the school in general and its hard to do that without punishing current students which is why they gave them the transer out option

Yeah but most of the guys can't feasibly transfer. Imagine if you're a ok player who is a senior. Where you gonna go? Options are limited and it's kinda hard to just go out of state after you have been with a program for 3-4 years. I understand both sides because there really isn't another solution to this issue.

Yea good point. All day ive heard this will ruin Penn States chances of a winning season for at least a decade. What do you think?

Well yeah they are going to have trouble obviously recruiting now. The scandal is one. Parents aren't gonna be so keen on sending their kids there. Secondly no bowl coverage means less national media exposure for the team and players. Lastly they already were fucked a bit because Paterno isn't there anymore. New coach, new staff, new system. Many of the local PA kids are gonna jump to rivals michigan and Ohio state and also to the other PA colleges. Penn state though was never really a huge recruiting zone for highly skilled athletes. They always have built in the trenches so there will be at least enough local boys to field a team that will still be "ok" But they aren't gonna be good anymore for a long long time.

Yeah, Penn State would have been better off with the death penalty.

I can't believe Ichiro went to the Yankees.

Ichiro seemed like a good fit there last night

Yea, I get that Penn State has built a system on honor and integrity and that doesnt mean much now but more than the scandal is the fact they lost those scholarships and it will take prob 2 or 3 years beyond the 4 year ban to get where they need to be.

but like you said though, that system was based on a lie.

it is chilling reading Paterno's old interviews where he talks about other teams, their problems with discipline, and how his program is different.

I have no problem with the sanctions and would have no problems had PSU gotten the death penalty for 2-4 years. Spanier and Schultz should end up in prison too and the Paterno family can just go ahead and shut the hell up before they embarrass themselves further.

    I couldnt agree more.

I just meant that the school will have loss on both ends. They lost respect and they lost the ability to build a team. And they totally deserve it.
