Santiago Jose Pompa, who also goes by David Santiago Pompa, allegedly climbed into the passenger's seat of the woman's car Sunday while she was driving near Southeast 92nd Avenue and Division Street. According to the affidavit for his arrest, he pointed a large butcher's knife at her and ordered her to drive to a secluded, wooded area in Southeast Portland.

When they arrived, Pompa told the woman to get out of the car. He hit the woman repeatedly and raped her, according to the affidavit. She escaped and ran to the road, where a passerby picked her up.

Portland police asked for the public's help locating Pompa on Sunday night.

The couple had dated for about six months, according to the affidavit. The woman started blocking messages from Pompa last week, after which he repeatedly threatened to kill her, her family and himself.

Pompa was booked at the Multnomah County Detention Center at 11:26 p.m. Monday. He faces charges that include first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and domestic violence.

Pompa's first hearing in this case is scheduled for June 10. Pompa has been convicted of robbery, theft and assault, among other charges, in the past 15 years.
