Does anyone know what product(s) I can use to make my hair be shiny or glossy?

Now that I'm in Hawaii, I'm surrounded by all these Asian and Polynesian women with beautiful glossy black hair. I feel inferior.

Plus, I recently stopped dyeing my hair red (red hair dye fades so fast in the sun, it seems like a pointless waste of money) but I hate my natural hair color. I need to do something to make it look decent.
I'm not a product expert like some of the girls here, but I use this shine spray to make my hair glossy when it's straightened. It's similar to using a shine/gloss serum, but comes in an aerosol-like can instead.

You guys are really making me reconsider my decision to dye my hair dark dark red when I get it done on Friday and it's making me sad.
You should do it! It would look gorgeous with your skintone. Just keep in mind that it will take some work to keep it looking pretty without it turning brassy or rusty. It might also help that you're getting it done professionally. I always did my own dye jobs.

Seriously black hair on top of the sleeve tattoos, I get lumped into a category. A sad, gothic category. That's why I want to make sure I have a real jerb first and then do it. Also it might make dudes even less likely to talk to me, as I wasn't exactly beating them away with a stick when I had black hair plus I had to deal with asshole asking me if I was gonna do black magic on them.

I dyed my hair red for years and LOVED it. Most people don't even know I'm not a natural redhead.

It's difficult to maintain, but there are tricks you can do to make it last longer.

Avoiding lots of direct sunlight helps. Washing your hair in cold water helps (it sucks, but it helps a lot), as does not washing it every day. And there are special shampoos you can buy to maintain the color.

    Good change of tactics, then!!

During my last week of Freshman year in high school, I attempted to dye my hair a lovely shade of burgundy... which translated itself on my hair to more of a purple tone. I almost got suspended from school because of it.

I have super fine hair and it gets really greasy if I don't wash it every day. You can seriously tell if I haven't washed it. It sucks.

The worst part was it was right before a wedding I was going to with my bf in IL and there was no time to fix it. So I had to meet all of his friends like that. It didn't help that the dress I wore was mainly green. Carrot top hair with a green dress is a huge thumbs down, I assure you. I looked like a weird leprechaun/jolly green giant hybrid.

My hair is very similar. If I sleep on it, it's all flat and greasy in the morning. If I don't want to wash it, I usually slap it into two little pigtails (my hair is fairly short). People think the pigtails are so cute that they generally don't notice my hair is looking a little worse for wear. (Seriously, I get compliments on those stupid pigtails all the time.)

    OMG I CAN REPLY NOW!!!!!!!

bowie, go with a chestnut brown, it would totally compliment your skin.

betty, if you're gonna do it at home, use a pull cap, unless her hair is super long and fragile cause pulling the cap off can rip her hair out. those brush in highlights are scary, and i cant imagine you could put them anywhere except the top layer of her hair or else it would get all over the place. also i think places like great clips does them for 20-30 bucks.

Hey sauce I have a question--My hair kind of band-y after bleaching it from previous color, and I am thinking putting some lowlights in will camoflauge it. Do you think i can stick with the golden tones for the lowlights or should I used something thats cooler? If you have any other suggestions on how to deal with the bands without damaging my hair even more let me know.

I thought of cutting a few inches off of her hair at her request and frame it around her face. But if a place like great clips does it for that cheap, I may as well just do that, being a box of that stuff is close to that price anyways. And I don't have her hating me if I fudge it up. I'm confident cutting her hair, I've just never colored her hair. If she wanted it all one color, I could handle that with some clips and a paintbrush thing and a bowl, but noooo she wants to be like all the jr high girls and have the damn highlights :|

    Thank ya!

i think golden, or cool would both work, but golden would look better. also i would use a demi instead of perm, just cause you don't wanna add extra damage because of the banding. i generally always recommend using a demi over bleached.

Yeah we have redken color at my work and I was definitely planning on using shades eq versus fusion. My hair is definitely suprisingly not as fried as i was expecting it to be. I got lucky.

Okay, I'm sitting here thinking of things to do while I'm recovering from my surgery and I was wondering if anyone knows about (and I don't know if this is the right term) rag setting curls? I want to do really spiral, bouncy curls for a "Rockabilly" type photoshoot and I was told that's the best way to do them. Any advice?
