Sigh. I don't like the US version. It always seems I tend to find these shows or movies and then the US has to make their own version and fuck it all up. Techincally this show is practically a scene by scene remake, but I personally am unimpressed with the US actors. The original was very fucking good, realistically they didn't need a US version. I am just glad to know the french version is coming out with a season 2.

They are going to do a US version of Rita too, another good show that would just not translate as well. imo.

Idk I thought it had to do with the people coming "back" fucking up the natural order of things? When one person comes back, someone has to die. Since more people are coming back, maybe Mother Nature is being affected?

I feel like I am giving something away when I say that you never find out 'why' they arrived by the end of the first season anyways. It was part of the reason I was so upset when I finished it the first time.

I agree with Bowie and Green on every point. The US version is a VERY pale imitation of the French version. I am watching the US version (cause I am bored too) but I get SO mad at how heavy handed it is. EVERYTHING about the French version was brilliant, the music, the film, the acting, the storytelling. The US version just isn't handling it right at. all. Even if you don't like subtitles, seriously, check out the French version, you will get so drawn in you won't even realize you are reading it. Also, I can't WAIT for the second season!!!!

US TV doesn't trust the audience and instead overly elaborates points, whereas the beauty of the french version was that you don't ever fully know what the story is but you're more than happy to watch the little nuances unfold.

Interesting crossover fact, in the AUS version of The Slap, the babysitter is the same actress that is playing the older sister in the US version of The Returned. Common theme here, the AUS version of The Slap is also a katrillion times better.
