He completed the dive, surfaced, gave the OK sign, tried to speak, and then passed out. He never regained consciousness and died that same day from pulmonary edemaNicholas Mevoli saved money from an assortment of jobs to pay for the bottomless pursuit of holding his breath and sinking his body as far as possible into the ocean.
He practiced holding his breath in bathtubs and Brooklyn swimming pools, even seeing how far he could run with one gulp of oxygen. For roughly the past two years, free diving consumed his life, turning him from novice to national record-holder.
But on Sunday, in pursuit of another record in a championship event in a hidden cove of the Bahamas, in front of the best free divers in the world, Mr. Mevoli came to the surface — but he was not all the way back. After diving down to 68 meters, he paused and reached 72 meters before turning back. After staying under water for 3 minutes 38 seconds, Mr. Mevoli, 32, pulled off his goggles — and quickly fell into unconsciousness. He died soon after.

That is sad. I didn't know this was a sport.
Pretty gross. Video testimonial from John-Andrew Flemming who recorded himself while
high on crystal meth before the drug took his life. He wanted to show
others how this dangerous drug can destroy a person's life, like it did
his.
This video was shared courtesy of his family and the
foundation established in his name, to help bring awareness to the
scourge of crystal meth.

Last ever performance of piano prodigy Austin Peralta, the night he passed at age 22
LA Weekly‘s West Coast Sound blog has obtained the coroner’s report, which sheds light on the tragedy. The report holds that viral pneumonia — aggravated by drugs and alcohol — was the most likely cause of death. The depressants, coupled with the pneumonia, caused Peralta to stop breathing on the morning of November 21 [2012].
According to West Coast Sound, Peralta had developed viral pneumonia in the weeks prior to what would be his final performance, at the Blue Whale on November 20. After the show, Peralta joined friends (including Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner) for drinks at Bar Marmont before returning home around 5:15 am and going to sleep a half hour later. Peralta’s roommate recalled hearing snoring at 11:30 that morning, which could have been Peralta’s respiratory system going into distress, according to a physician interviewed by the blog.
Peralta was discovered by his roommate after 1:00pm, blue and not breathing, and resuscitation efforts by paramedics were unsuccessful. Recovered at the scene were prescription drugs Valium and Xanax along with ecstasy and tablets of morphine; Peralta tested positive for alcohol, morphine, and benzodiazepines (the prescription drugs) at the hospital.
According to Deputy Medical Examiner J. Daniel Augustine’s Opinion: “The mechanism of death is the result of respiratory depression, caused by the combined effects of the underlying natural disease processes and external factors (ethanol and drug effects). The manner of death is an accident.”
Peralta’s impressive career found him touring the world with his own trio at 15, releasing two LPs before 16, and working with the likes of Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder collective and Erykah Badu. Footage of Peralta’s final performance, of Joni Mitchell’s ‘Goodbye Pork Pie Hat’ with singer Natasha Agrama, is below."

Last image of Missouri football player Brandon Ellingson, moments before the police boat hit a wake of another boat causing Brandon to fall into the water and drown due to police negligence because he was in handcuffs.
The family ended up winning 9 million. The cop also charged. Lots of coverups going on with this case.

Hey thx for posting this video. I never never never could understand how a person couldn't know a train was headed right for them. My great-uncle lost four kids plus a son-in-law when a train hit the car they were in. I've always thought "How did they not see that train coming straight at them and not jump out of the car, or put it in gear, or SOMETHING?" A fifth person, the son-in-law's (son's-in-law?) brother, survived. Idk how my great-uncle & great-aunt could even stand the kind of pain that comes with loosing four kids at a time. This was waaay back in the day (19 and 46, as the old folks used to say). They lost another son 20 yrs later in Vietnam. Here's a clip about the accident. [Btw, the 14 yr old Doris May died in the hospital shortly afterward]
PS- Those trestle trains still give me the heebie jeebies!
PPS- Geez the photos look huge! I'm really sorry. Maybe a mod could/would make em smaller?

ALSO- those pics of the Russian guy shooting/killing the other Russian guy? I'm almost positive I saw a video of that, or at least parts of a video of it, on the news. It was some kind of press conference or something, and it was being filmed, but on the news they didn't show any gore of course. The shooter was cool as a cucumber. He was supposedly a bodyguard or in the KGB Secret Service (Idr what Russia calls those guys now). It was shocking to see how smoothly he went from bodyguard to assassin in the blink of an eye.

A combat photographer's pictures that captured her last moments before she died have been released by the Army.
In July 2013, Spc. Hilda Clayton, a visual information specialist attached to 4th Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, in Afghanistan, was taking photos of a live-fire training exercise in Qaraghahi.
She was also training an Afghan combat photographer, who was also taking pictures.
It was while they were snapping photos that a mortar tube accidentally exploded. Clayton and her trainee caught the moments before their own deaths on camera.
The three Afghan soldiers participating in the exercise were also killed.

Some drivers (not talking about anyone's family in particular) are stupid and think they can beat a train. I've seen videos of cars going around crossing arms.
This is local for me and just saw the video today....hard to see knowing that was his last moments. It is assumed he drowned as this happened a week ago and he has not been found. Video found here:
