Robert Durst of HBO's 'The Jinx' Says He "Killed Them All"

I can't believe we don't have a thread on Durst. I searched but didn't find one so...

Since his first wife vanished more than three decades ago, Robert A. Durst, the eccentric and estranged son of one of New York?s most prominent real estate dynasties, has lived under the suspicious gaze of law enforcement officials in three states.

They have followed his path from New York City to Los Angeles, where one of his closest friends was found dead in her home in 2000. They have tracked him to Galveston, Tex., where he fled after investigators reopened the case of his wife?s disappearance, and where he posed as a mute woman and shot and dismembered a neighbor in 2001.

Mr. Durst was acquitted in the Texas killing, and was never arrested in the disappearance of his wife or the death of his friend. But on Saturday, he found himself in custody once again, arrested on a charge of murder as he walked into a New Orleans hotel he had checked into under a false name.

I saw clips of this on the news this weekend. His lawyer is already trying to blow off the statements indicating he was "in the bathroom and should expect some right to privacy there". Yeah, cuz we all know that murder doesn't count if you're poopin'.

I'm pretty sure I saw some kind of crime show documenting him. The cross dressing mute Women sounds familiar and how many killers would be disguised as a cross dressing mute Woman?

Timeline of Robert Durst’s life over the past 33 years tells a tale of controversy and crime

    Jan. 31, 1982

According to Durst, his wife Kathie got on a Metro-North train near the couple's home in South Salem, Westchester County, headed for their upper West Side apartment. Her doorman later told cops he never saw her.

    Feb. 5, 1982

Durst reports his wife missing to the NYPD.

    Early 1990s

Durst leaves family real estate firm after his younger brother Douglas is picked to lead the company.

    Dec. 19, 2000

He flies from New York to San Francisco.

    Dec. 24, 2000

Susan Berman, Durst's close friend, is fatally shot in the back of the head with a 9-mm. gun in her Los Angeles home. Westchester County investigators planned to speak with Berman about Kathie's disappearance.

Durst flies from San Francisco back to New York.

An anonymous letter is sent to Beverly Hills Police Department telling them a "cadaver" is at Berman's home. The letter misspells Beverly Hills as "Beverley."

    Sept. 28, 2001

Durst shoots his cantankerous 71-year-old neighbor in the head, killing him.

    Sept. 30, 2001

Fisher finds torso, arms and legs of Morris Black, 71, in Texas' Galveston Bay. The head is never found.

    Oct. 9, 2001

Galveston police arrest Durst on murder charges. They discover a bow saw, 9-mm. gun and marijuana in his car.

    Oct. 10, 2001

Durst posts $300,000 bail and is released.

    Oct. 16, 2001

He ditches an arraignment hearing and becomes a fugitive.

    Nov. 30, 2001

Durst is nabbed in Bethlehem, Pa., attempting to steal a $5.99 chicken salad sandwich. Cops found $27,000 in cash, two guns and Black's driver's license in his car.

    Nov. 11, 2003

After 26 hours of deliberations over five days, jurors find Durst not guilty of murder. Durst argued he acted in self-defense as the men struggled over the gun.

    2010

Durst meets with filmmaker Andrew Jarecki right before his fictionalized film about his life, "All Good Things," premiered.

It makes me sick when rich people aren't held responsible for their actions. Especially when they go on TV and brag about it.

If you have enough money you can get away with anything.

Hubby has been watching Jinx faithfully. If you have HBO/HBOGO, I strongly suggest it.

Haha that's kind of what I was picturing but I think he's worse because he's been getting away with murder for so long.

I just can't get how someone who is claiming self defense in a gunshot death then is like 'but I had to cut up the body' and everyone's like 'oh that makes sense, yeah, I would have done that before I called 911.'

Well don't try this at home kids. It only works if your bank balance is $$$$$$$$

Yeah, what's fucked up is that he is so crazy that he busted himself because he was talking to himself in the bathroom about 'killing them all'. Obviously untreated mental illness.

Yep. The man has obviously been ill for a long time and no one has been willing or able to stop him from doing whatever he wanted.

Not to insinuate that I in anyway exonerate him of his responsibility or pity him, I just think it sucks that he was allowed to get away with killing so many people.

Don't judge. I do that every day cuz the local fast food places won't break my thousand dollar bills anymore.

That's the only acceptable explanation. His smallest bill was $1000.

    Wouldn't surprise me...

Two teenage girls who went missing in California 18 years ago could come back to haunt Robert Durst.

Detectives searching for Karen Mitchell and Kristen Modafferi took a look at the mysterious Manhattan real estate scion back in 2003 when he was on trial in Galveston, Tex., for murdering and dismembering his neighbor.

Now that Durst will soon be heading back to Los Angeles to face a charge of murdering old friend Susan Berman in 2000, the search for 16-year-old Mitchell is back on the front burner, said an author who has covered Durst for years.

“Karen Mitchell's family spoke with the FBI as recently as a few months ago,” said Matt Birkbeck, who wrote "A Deadly Secret: The Strange Disappearance of Kathie Durst." “They brought up Durst.”

Kathie Durst was the cross-dressing multimillionaire’s first wife, who vanished in 1982.

Humboldt County District Attorney Maggie Fleming declined to discuss Durst or the Mitchell case.

“I really can't confirm or deny that Durst is a person of interest because anything said about the investigation could potentially hinder the investigation,” she said.

Eh, I would have to read more but I don't know.

He seemed to kill people he was close with. Not just randoms. And it doesn't seem like he did it for pleasure but more because he was crazy and paranoid and thought they were going to do something to him.

Pathological serial killers very rarely murder anyone close to them.
