So, he lost his job. Welp, there's your trigger.
"This is a bunch of crap," said Towns' father, also named Ronnie. "There is something else going on. ... I don't know if he did it or not. I think someone else is involved. He's a good kid."Gwen Towns, the mother of the accused, said, "My son did not do this," as she left the courtroom. Later, while members of the family were talking to Steverson outside his office, she added that "evidence could have been planted" in her son's trailer.

Because of this, a town close to my hometown put this on the Police Department's facebook page.
“We would invite you to complete your Craigslist/Online ad transaction in the lobby of our police department. This will definitely weed out the bad guys trying to scam or harm the citizens of this fine community,” the post reads.
The pressure washed sign.
OMFG. SERIOUSLY?!
Yeah. I'm sorry. But I don't see how he isn't responsible. Even if someone was with him and did the actual killing, he was there.... He lured them.... He is responsible. And as for "He'd NEVER DO THIS! "
BTK. Dahmer. Bundy. They ALL "Seemed so nice". Worked in Candy Factories and Churches. I'm not saying this kid is a serial killer like them. Quite the contrary, serial killers usually have the smarts enough to not get caught first time out. But you can certainly hide a dark side from family and friends.
He could argue that he had the gun for his own safety. I don't think it was premeditated, considering he didn't really know them well enough to lure them in, or have a motive to kill them. He simply corresponded with them over Craigslist, and it was their choice to meet up with him. Did Bud bring a firearm as well?
It is possible that his motive was to rob them, then realized that he would be identified by his victims, so he ingeniously decided to take them out, without an exit strategy.
Or upon realizing that Bud would fuck him up, he was trying to defend himself, and accidentally shot them both. I can't comprehend how he could go from a petty thievery to planning a murder.
A planned robbery can turn into murder when the victims, or sometimes the suspects, end up fighting for their lives. Life isn't worth a few grand. Give up the money then focus on removing yourself from the situation. Safety first.
Or simply avoid making arrangements with people you've only known from the internet. Stranger danger rules apply online.
The part I bolded ... that IS the very definition of premeditated. He didn't have to plan to kill them from the get-go for it to be premeditated murder. If you don't believe me, look it up.
And you think it's possible he "accidentally" put a bullet in both their heads while defending himself? REALLY?
Yup. I have to go with this, as well, and I don't need a quarterzillion gifs to back that up.
Accidental shooting in the head? Based on the news, they were not found together. They were close together. This little asshat shot the one they loved right in front of their eyes and, after they witnessed that horror of horrors, he then marched them off into the woods to put a bullet into them. They didn't even get to DIE TOGETHER.
Fuck this guy.
Fuck him a million ways to Sunday with that accidental shooting shit.
Yeah, it's called felony murder and death penalty eligible.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felony_murder_rule
Yes, I said earlier that I believe they will seek the death penalty on this one (unless the family has strong objections).
Also, they've actually charged him with malice murder and armed robbery, not felony murder and armed robbery, so they're opting to prosecute this one the "hard way." To me, that says a lot.

All the stories about the ways the Runions helped people just make me want to cry, but I thought I'd share this one since Wednesday marked one year since our Snowpocalypse/Snowjam. I think it took my sister about 8 hours to get to my niece's daycare to pick her up, so the lady from this article actually did pretty good if it only took her three hours to get to her kids' school, haha. (But I'm sure hiking miles in the snow with two young kids really sucked ... most people didn't have the proper attire that day.) Anyway, I just thought it was a nice story. This case is just so sad.

Local remembers Runions for their service to others
(Jan. 28, 2015) MARIETTA -- One Marietta woman remembers Bud Runion and his wife, June, the Marietta couple found dead after a quest to find a man who answered their Craigslist ad, as simply the nice couple who saved her during the snowstorm in Atlanta last year.
Erin Tudor, who owns a Marietta consulting business, said she first met Bud Runion one year ago today when she was trying to get out of the cold after a massive snow and ice storm hit Marietta in January 2014.
"It was devastating to hear of their death and heartbreaking for their loved ones," Tudor said.
Tudor had driven three hours in traffic from her home in east Cobb to The Walker School on Jan. 28, 2014, to pick up her two children, Will, 8, and Allie, 6. She got her children from school but was sitting in traffic for another hour before she decided she might get home quicker if she and her children walked the three remaining miles home.
After a mile-long hike, she stopped in Publix on East Piedmont Road with her children to get warm.
"All I could think is I've got to get the kids home, and there was this elderly gentleman -- he was about my father's age -- in the parking lot. It was Bud Runion, and I walked up to him as he was walking out to get in his very large truck," Tudor said. "I walked up to him and said, 'Excuse me, sir, could you please help me and my children get home?' And, he, without hesitating said, 'Of course.'"
That's just the type of person Bud Runion was, Tudor said.
Tudor said she only spent a few hours with Bud Runion as he drove with her and her children. They first picked up his wife, who was about a mile away stranded on a side street, and then drove to their house in east Cobb.
"He drove us right up to our doorstep," Tudor said.
Tudor said she was surprised at how warm and genuine the Runions were. They gave whatever they could to calm her children and make them feel safe, Tudor said.
"He had Will's favorite crackers and shared them with him," Tudor said.
Tudor said she hadn't heard from the Runions since that day a year ago, but she always remembered the generous couple.
"He made an impact on me and I only spent an hour and a half, two hours with him," Tudor said. "He's such a nice man to go out of his way to help us."
Yeah I've been saying that for weeks, but people kept encouraging him for some reason, so I'm not surprised we ended up with BS splattered all over the place.
I believe Mork has returned to Ork ... which is good, because I couldn't take much more shazbot about the Runions causing that sweet little armed robber to murder them.
Nanu nanu!
I lost my job too, but you didn't read about me turning my manager into sweet barbecue.... Being jobless can ruin your life, jeopardize your future, destroy your credit and just make waking up difficult...but you have to move on from it.
They say life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. Even at my darkest when I was out looking for a job (after 17 years having no problems paying my bills), I never even dreamed of making a quick buck by robbing anyone...let alone two old people. This guy is total shit.
I can't imagine Bud and June's last moments, or that Bud even suspected something was amiss. What I do know is that this piece of shit needs to pay dearly for this crime.
I understand that mom is just defending her son, the only son she knows is the sweet one that she raised..probably to be a good kid. Unfortunately, that kid is gone and this murderous asshole what remains. She has to come to terms with that. And she better do it soon. Sometimes reality is a huge smack in the face, and I'd say that, for her, this is exactly that. She's just reacting the way any mother who doesn't realize her son is a piece of shit would react.
Don't like what I have to say? I respect that. Go fuck yourself.
I agree, 100%.
I was out of work for three months last year. By choice, of course, as I left a miserable job, but that changes nothing. I moved on, bucked up, and didn't murder someone with a pitchfork to put gas in my car.
I'm just saying that most folks with underlying mental issues -- as this fellow no doubt has -- react poorly to events that many of us can soldier on through. He lost his job, yet still got into his car every day "pretending" to be off to work. That was his trigger. And that's why he opted for the quick buck method.
This guy didn't barbecue anyone or jab them with a pitchfork. He brought a gun to defraud these people and scare the bajezus into them so they'd hand over the money. They refused, he shot them. He's a murderer but he's not like, a totally shocking, unheard of deviant.
He falls under the coward category for me. I truly believe that he had buried himself so deep by lying to everyone around him for so long that he panicked and opted for this as a last resort -- and remained a coward all the way through.
He's never going to survive in prison. Ever. His marshmallow ass will be toasted.
There's a difference between a delicate little flower and a coward.
Delicate little flowers routinely survive rainstorms.
This guy's not a flower. Hell, he couldn't even survive the loss of a job without flipping his mental shit. He's a complete and utter chicken shit coward and he's going to get rightfully skewered in prison and I won't shed a single tear.
