Amber Alert called off after boy found dead
NEW YORK (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An Amber Alert for a missing 5-year-old boy has been canceled after police found his remains.
The discovery of Kenneth Apple's remains was made around 3:00 Friday morning by a K-9 unit searching in the area.
The 19-year-old daughter of Kenneth's legal guardian told police two men in ski masks stormed the house Thursday, pinned her to the floor and took the child.
But the Albany County Sheriff now says that report was false.
He also says they are interviewing a person of interest.
EARLIER REPORT:
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An Amber Alert has been triggered in three northeastern states as the search continues for a 5-year-old boy who police say was taken by two armed men who broke into a house.
Police are looking for little Kenneth White.
Police issued an Amber Alert in New York, Vermont and Massachusetts, asking the public to be on the look-out for the vehicle the masked men are believed to be traveling in. It is described as a black 4-door extended cab pickup with an unknown license plate.
Police say Kenneth's biological father lives in Massachusetts, his mother lives in New York. Both parents were brought in to assist police in this case.
"Do you believe that this was some sort of familial abduction or do you think this was a total stranger?" asked a reporter.
"Obviously that's something that we are following up on right now, but right now we really can't answer with 100 percent, we just are not sure at this point," said Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple.
"How concerned are you for his welfare?" a reporter asked.
"Very concerned. We have absolutely no idea where he is at this point," said Apple.
The suspects are described as being one white male about 5 feet 10 inches. The other is a male of unknown race.
A 19-year-old witness said they were wearing all black and ski masks.
