Sorry for the multiple posts, but I'm on a roll. "Happy" on Netflix. Very interesting and informative. It studies the science behind Happiness in different cultures. It's a great watch.
A Ballerina's Tale. On Netflix
What an amazing woman.A FEATURE DOCUMENTARY ABOUT AFRICAN-AMERICAN BALLERINA MISTY COPELAND EXAMINING HER PRODIGIOUS RISE, HER POTENTIALLY CAREER ENDING INJURY, AND THEMES OF RACE AND BODY IMAGE IN THE CLASSICAL BALLET WORLD. THE FILM ALSO INCLUDES EXCLUSIVE, UNSEEN FOOTAGE OF MISTY PERFORMING.
Speaking of ballet here's whats happening in my neck of the woods.

Janis: little girl blue
Awesome. Documentary on Janis Joplin.
So I started watching Life and Death Row on NGCHD. It's pretty interesting, regardless if you are for/against the death penalty. I just watched an episode about Justin Back's murder, and I'm very confused. Two teenage boys killed him, and the one that stabbed him multiple times got life in prison, but the kid who sat in the corner, in shock, got the death penalty. That makes absolutely no sense to me.
Just watched 50 Feet From Syria. Bawled my eyes out. Those poor little babies affected by war, I can't get over it. It really slaps you in the face.
Watched "Interview with a Serial Killer"
This dude was completely cold. It was so eerie listening to him. The one thing I found strange- he wouldn't admit to killing those two kids. He refused to talk about it even tho they know he did kill them.In this jailhouse interview, Arthur Shawcross, the Genesee River Killer, shares candid details of his crimes and his surprising family bonds.
His daughter was just as creepy as he was.
Love docs so I am marking. Not really a documentary, but an entertaining show on the banking collapse. The Big Short on Netflix.
Ah thank you Berm. I couldn't remember the name of that doc.
I watched Amy. It was so sad how her own dad and her husband used her.
The guy she married was such a leach. He started seeing her while involved with someone else. Then he dumped her to go back to his girlfriend. He dumps the other chick and goes running back when Rehab made the charts and he knew money was rolling in. There was a video clip the day they got married and he's drinking and saying "Amy's paying for it." She is sitting all alone at the bar.
No wonder she had damn issues when the two most trusted people in her life saw her as a cash cow.

currently watching "The Galapagos Affair: Satan Came to Eden" on Netflix. Pretty Interesting so far. I'll update when it's over!

I watched "Aileen: life and death of a serial killer" It's an old one but still interesting. I heard this was the follow up to "Aileen Wuornos:the selling of a serial killer"
I realized that I knew the Aileen story ( I watched Monster) but I don't think I really knew it at all.
It was disturbing. All of it. SO many people made so much money off her case. Her childhood. The murders, her lover, etc.......
Do they mention Troy, Mi? I lived there till second grade. There was a mass execution at a liquor store where 4 people got killed right down the street from us. Fuck Detroit the suburbs were full of secret weirdos.

Yeah, I couldn't help but feel empathy for her too.
She was def dealt a very bad hand in life. Her whole backstory is heartbreaking.
I don't really believe it was self-defense on all those men she killed tho. I think the first man she killed probably did rape her (he had served a decade previously for sexual assault) and I believe that along with all the other BS in her life pushed her to the tipping point. I do think she had some serious mental issues going on. It was clear to see in the doc. that she had lost her mind.
In the Aileen documentary?
Yes, they mention MI a lot since that's where Aileen's f'ed up background took place. It seems her whole family was just full of child predators. Aileen has said that her grandpa raped her and she had sex all the time with her brother. Aileen's dad was in prison for child molestation and mom was..........very odd. She's on the documentary.
I feel bad for Aileen too. She went through some rough shit.
Has anybody watched the new show Unlocking the Truth? It's hosted by Ryan Ferguson. He's friends with Amanda Knox and a lot of other exonerated people. It's pretty interesting.
i watched 'who took johnny' on netflix today. it's about johnny gosch. i think maybe we had a thread on him once upon a time?
it wasn't the best docu, but it was interesting to see how inept the WDM police were in the case. i knew a lot of what was covered, but i hadn't seen much with his mom, noreen, before. i was so young when it happened, i remember his face being everywhere and i've always known his name. i don't think that's just us iowa kids, though.
