A genuine confession, or he doesn't want his baby born in a Bali prison?

A Chicago man confessed to killing his girlfriend's mother at a luxury hotel room in Bali, Indonesian authorities said Friday. Tommy Schaefer, 21, and his girlfriend Heather Mack, 19, both from Chicago, were arrested on the island on Aug. 13, a day after Sheila von Wiese-Mack's dead body was found in a suitcase inside the trunk of a taxi at a the St. Regis Bali Resort.

Indonesian police chief Col. Djoko Heru Utomo said Schaefer confessed on Monday while under interrogation. "He was hurt and offended by the victim's words in an argument with him. That is the motive for the murder," Utomo told The Associated Press. Mack, who is three months pregnant, admitted later in the week to helping Schaefer dispose of the body by stuffing it into a suitcase.

Slur sparked outrage in murder of woman in Bali hotel room: suspect

Heather Mack told police that her mother, Sheila von Wiese-Mack, used a racial epithet against her boyfriend, Tommy Schaefer, before he allegedly murdered her in August. Mack and Schaefer are both in custody as suspects but have not been formally charged with murder by Indonesian authorities.

A Chicago man murdered his girlfriend's mother after the older woman called him the N-word, police were told.

Indonesian authorities have been questioning Heather Mack, 19, and her boyfriend Tommy Schaefer, 21, about the death of Mack's mom, 62-year-old Sheila von Wiese-Mack, in a Bali hotel room.

Mack, also from Chicago, told police that Schaefer, who is black, was enraged when her mother, who is white, hurled the racial epithet at him, according to police.

Capt. Nengah Sadiarta, police detective chief of the island's capital, Denpasar, said Thursday that Mack admitted to watching Schaefer kill her mother.

Neither Mack nor Schaefer have been formerly charged in the woman's death on Aug. 12. But they were both arrested the following day and are being held as suspects throughout the investigation.

Von-Weise-Mack, whose beaten body was found in a suitcase in the trunk of a taxi, allegedly used the N-word a second time when referring to her late-husband, James L. Mack, a highly respected African-American jazz and classical musician.

Police filed their dossiers at the prosecutor's office on Monday.

Mack's attorney, Raja Nasution, said she did not kill her mother or help stuff the body into the suitcase.

Schaefer replaced his lawyer on Thursday.

Security cameras for the hotel shot Schaefer leaving his room with a piece of iron that appeared to come from the grip to a fruit bowl that the hotel provides in each room, according to Sadiarta.

Schaefer, he continued, can be seen hiding the iron under his shirt while entering von Wiese-Mack's room.

A piece of iron found in the victim's fatal wound matches the iron he was carrying, according to investigators.

The love birds got to spend some time together before they got transferred to the big people's jail AKA Kerobokan Prison. I'm sure there are no Mcdonald's delivered there.

But Miss Mack has told a different story, explaining that she was horrified when her boyfriend struck her mother and ran from the bedroom.
‘Mr Schaefer had arrived at the hotel from the US at two o’clock in the morning of August 12 - just six hours before the murder - and Mrs Mack did not know he was coming,’ said Mr Raja.
‘In order to appease her mother, Heather suggested he go to her room and take with him a gift.’
That ‘gift’, police say, was a heavy fruit bowl from his room and, they insist, Schaefer did not intend to give it to her as a present because he was hiding it under his shirt, planning to use it to kill Mrs Mack following a fierce argument shortly after he arrived at the hotel.
The argument is said to have continued when Schaefer entered Mrs Mack’s room, his anger exploding when she referred to her daughter as expecting the child of a ‘n*****’.
He is said to have angrily told Mrs Mack that her late husband was a ‘n*****’ and she is alleged to have replied: ‘Yes, but he was a rich one.’

It is understood that Miss Mack has told police that her mother had reached out and grabbed Schaefer around the throat - and it was at that moment that he struck her on the head with the fruit bowl - before continuing to batter her with it as her daughter hid in the bathroom.
As part of Miss Mack’s defence, her lawyer will argue that she had Mrs Mack’s blood on her shirt because she hugged her mother’s body.
‘Heather acted robot-like,’ said Mr Raja. ‘She wanted no part of what had happened but Mr Schaefer was the father of her child and she went along as if in a trance when he forced Mrs Mack’s body into the suitcase.’

not exactly buying the racial slur aspect of this case, but it makes the victim seem less sympathetic and the accused moreso

Sorry, I know this is a long article. Just wanted to show that the courts have said that Heather can have all her money...or moms/.

Even with the threat of death hovering over her, Heather Mack found time to share a laugh with fellow prisoners as her lover Tommy Schaefer wept in an Indonesian court.
Heather Mack, 19, who is currently seven months' pregnant, playfully nudged elbows with other women and played hide and seek under a blanket while her boyfriend broke down in tears during his brief appearance in court.
Occasionally, the teenager, from Chicago, walked up to the bars to peer across the courtyard at a cell holding her boyfriend Schaefer, 21, who is also charged with premeditated murder.
For Miss Mack, even the fact that she will lose custody of her unborn daughter should she still be lingering behind bars two years after the baby girl's birth, was far from her mind as she and her boyfriend waited - within sight of one another - to appear separately in court.

The couple have been charged with the premeditated murder of Miss Mack's mother, Sheila von Weiss Mack, which carries the death sentence, but MailOnline learned today that the 19-year-old mother-to-be is in total denial over the fact that baby Stella - to be named after Miss Mack's grandmother - will be taken from her after staying with her mother behind bars for two years.
Asked if she had made plans for the baby's adoption should the murder case go against her, Miss Mack said the baby would be staying in Indonesia, although she declined to say under what circumstances.
Baby Stella, who will be born in a prison hospital, will automatically become a joint Indonesian-US citizen but just who will become her adoptive parents or guardians should her mother still be behind bars has not been publicly disclosed.

There are adoption agencies in Indonesia who would be available for the child and there are also friends and relatives of Miss Mack in the US who could be considered - particularly as a US legal team has already approached the teenager to look after baby Stella's interests.
Miss Mack's demeanour today was vague, as if she did not realise the serious position she was in, and her behaviour as she waited in the holding cell - decorated with blue walls and brightly-painted stars because it is usually used for juveniles - was bizarre and child-like.
The minute she and half a dozen other women prisoners were led into the cell she began playfully pushing and pulling them, then joining them in a laughing game of hide-and-seek as they tried to use a blanket to protect their faces from photographers.
It became obvious that during her five months in prison awaiting the start of her trial she has learned some Indonesian from her fellow prisoners at the notorious Kerobokan Jail. She joked with them in the local language as she ducked in and out of the blanket.
But then, seeing her boyfriend standing in his holding cell, some 10 yards across a courtyard, she ran to the bars of her own cell and stared longingly at him. They smiled and waved at one another before Heather mouthed the words 'I love you.'
'Yes, of course I love him,' she told MailOnline. Referring to their arrest last August following the bloodied body of Mrs Mack stuffed into a suitcase which had been loaded into a taxi at an upmarket Bali hotel, she added: 'It's been a long time. Too long.'

Wearing a red plastic ring on her engagement finger, nothing distracted her as she stared across at Schaefer until an Australian woman friend arrived and spoke in whispers through the bars to the American teenager. Then the friend, who identified herself only as Oshar, walked across to Shaefer's cell and passed on his girlfriend's message.
It was the only communication they had been able to have since their arrests in August after they hurriedly left the posh St Regis hotel and tried to leave Bali without their passports, which were being held in the hotel's safety deposit box. Their arrests came when they checked into another hotel having failed to leave the holiday island.
As Miss Mack and Schaefer exchanged loving glances and she blew him kisses from time to time, while taking bites from a hamburger and sipping a soft drink, a representative from the US consulate in Surabaya arrived with an important document for her to sign.

It is understood the paperwork sought her acceptance of money from a Trust Fund set up for her by her murdered mother - funds which a US judge said she could have access to in order to pay for her defence.
Miss Mack merely glanced at the document before signing it and handing it back. Then she immediately jumped up from the prison bench and returned to the bars to stare at Schaefer, who had now lit a cigarette and was looking back at her.
Now that they have been formally charged during a brief appearance last week it is understood they have been allowed to make brief contact with one another by phone. Among the mouthed messages she made to her boyfriend she could be distinctly seen saying: 'Call me - we can talk about anything.'
But talk about her baby was off limits today - even among her fellow prisoners.
'How is the baby, Heather?' one of them asked.
Giving the other woman a friendly push, Miss Mack replied: 'None of your business!'
It was time for Schaefer to be brought before the court for what turned out to be a brief hearing.

As he was led through the courtyard past his girlfriend's cell, Miss Mack stared painfully at him and tears began to run down her cheeks.
The man who had shared the good times with her in America - allegedly on one grand occasion on her mother's stolen credit card - and now the bad as they stood trial for murder, was so near yet so far.
It was the turn of his defence team to answer the charges laid last week which alleged that he had murdered Mrs Mack in her hotel room by smashing a glass ornament against her head, smothering her with a pillow and then stuffing her body into a suitcase.

The murder was because Mrs Mack had insulted him, the Prosecution had claimed, but the defence team said he denied everything and the Prosecution had no evidence to support their claims. The Prosecution has now been given a week to respond.
It was the same scenario when Miss Mack was led into the court to sit before the three judges.
Her defence team said that every claim against her, that she had assisted Mr Schaefer in the brutal murder, was denied, insisting that she had not even been in her mother's room when the crime was committed.
As in Schaefer's case, the Prosecution was given a week to respond to the defence claims.
Lawyers representing each of the young lovers asked the court to throw out the charges.
For Miss Mack, another week will bring her closer to the birth of baby Stella in a couple of months time. And if the case against her proceeds it is certain the child will be born while her mother is a prisoner facing a mandatory death sentence.'

Meanwhile, it emerged on Tuesday that a judge in the high-profile case has ruled that the teenager can have any lawyer she can afford to defend allegations that she killed Weiss Mack.
Miss Mack allegedly wants to hire Ary Soenardi, the Bali lawyer rejected by Cook County Judge Neil H. Cohen last week as the suspect sought cash from her $1.56 million trust fund to pay her legal bills.
According to lawyers, Soenardi is known for representing 'a number of international drug smugglers, but has never before tried a murder case.
Despite this, a judge ruled on Friday that Mack can use a $1.6 million trust fund left to her by her dead mother.
On Thursday, a day after she made a preliminary court appearance, she sued her uncle William Wiese, to release money to pay for a defense lawyer.

Benjamin Mackoff, the interim trustee of her trust confirmed Soenardi was her preferred lawyer, according to The Chicago Sun Times. 'She is definitely within his control,' Mr Mackoff said.
'She refuses to have any other attorney than Ary Soenardi. And she will not accept any other attorney at this point.'
Her new lawyer is expected to produce itemized bills from Mr Soenardi, but none of the money is allowed to pay for Schaefer's defense.
Mr Cohen said he has approved the payment of $150,000 in three weekly installments of $50,000 each from her trust fund to Soenardi.

Probably just because he got caught.

It's hard for me to fathom how people can get that far away from knowing (or caring) about what is right and wrong.

It also said in the article that Heather was rushed to the hospital last night in labor.

Last week Schaefer told the trial that he had been attacked by Wiese-Mack and called a racially offensive name.
He said that his relationship with Heather was not endorsed by her mother and he went to Bali to decide how to tell her they were pregnant.
After meeting with Mack at the hotel, they discussed how to inform von Wiese-Mack that Mack was pregnant and agreed to meet in the hotel room where Mack and her mother were staying.
Speaking through an interpreter, Schaefer said Mack asked him to bring a metal fruit bowl, which he hid under his shirt as a 'precaution'.
Asked by a judge why it was hidden, Schaefer answered that he was not sure whether he would use it or not to protect himself.
According to Schaefer, he arrived in the room and found Mack weeping. He did not know why, but also saw that Mack's mother was screaming.
'She (von Wiese-Mack) was angry at me when she knew that Heather was pregnant,' Schaefer said, while trying to hold back tears.
Mack, who was sitting beside her lawyer, sobbed at the testimony.
He said that the victim insulted him using a racial slur and described her daughter as a prostitute who liked a black man.
He said the situation got heated when von Wiese-Mack asked her daughter for an abortion or to kill the unborn baby. Schaefer said that led to a quarrel in which von Wiese-Mack strangled him hard for about 30 seconds.
'I was angry, I took the fruit bowl and hit her,' Schaefer said, in tears.
He added that he did not remember how many times he hit the victim. After acknowledging she wasn't breathing, he tried to give her artificial respiration, while Mack, who had run in panic into the bathroom for about three minutes, came back and tried to revive her mother.
He said he was trembling and scared and called 911 on his mobile phone before realizing that he was not in the United States.

In her first questioning in court on Wednesday, Mack, who is eight months' pregnant, said Schaefer beat her mother with a metal soup bowl after von Wiese-Mack made the threat in an argument.
'The blow was not so hard ... and my mother was still resisting,' Mack said.
'I asked Tommy to stop and then I ran into the bathroom.'
Von Wiese-Mack's bludgeoned body was folded in half and stuffed into a suitcase with bloody sheets.
The suitcase was later found in a taxi at the posh St. Regis Hotel in August.
In February a health scare saw Mack rushed to hospital after she collapsed with stomach pain and started bleeding.
She was taken to Bali's Sanglah Hospital, the main medical centre in Denpasar, where tourists and other foreigners are usually treated.
Hospital officials later said Miss Mack's baby was safe but she had been taken to hospital for an immediate check-up because she was in pain and had lost blood.
In January Mack had said she vowed to bring the baby up in the cramped Bali prison she shares with six others.
She has told fellow prisoners in the Wijaya Kusuma cell block of her intentions - but that has not gone down well with several of the other women.
'Make arrangements to get your baby out of here,' one prisoner is reported to have angrily told her. 'We're fed up with being woken by crying babies.'
In an adjoining cell a prisoner in her late 30s is raising a baby which cries through the night, waking other inmates.
'This is what your baby is going to be doing - waking us up - and we don't want that,' Heather was told by one woman - according to visitors leaving the prison on Friday after delivering food to relatives in the women's section of the notorious prison.
The protests, however, have failed to dampen the resolve of Mack.

Let her have her baby, then give it to someone who will love and care for it. Not the baby's fault it has two fucktards for parents.

That bitch is straight up ugly. Like, she fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

I don't buy the "n word" story for half a second. I call bullshit. That's just an all too convenient excuse...and to kill someone over it? That shows off your sense of morality, yaaayy!! Loser.

Fuck this bitch, and her loser bf. Killed her own mother. Over a guy and an argument about money? Maybe someone will teach her a few hard learned lessons about love and family whilst in prison. She has demonstrated the need for them. Bitch
Don't like what I have to say? I respect that. Go fuck yourself.

    Baby has arrived.

The US teenager accused in the 'body in the suitcase' murder in Bali has given birth by cesarean operation after being rushed to hospital when she went into labor.

Heather Mack, 19, was taken to hospital from Kerobokan Prison when she started to have contractions, guards confirmed. The baby, whom Mack said earlier would be named Stella, weighs 6.1 pounds.

One of her attorneys, Anthony Scifo, said Mack gave birth by cesarean and she and the baby, named Stella, are healthy.

Sorry for the long article, but you had to register to read it. I registered.
    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/c...ry.html#page=2

It was nearly 3:30 a.m., and Sheila von Wiese-Mack was having another sleepless night. Hours earlier, she and her daughter had argued, and the teen still hadn't returned to their high-rise condo along Chicago's lakefront.

As she had so many times in the past, the worried parent tapped out an email to a close friend in which she described her anguish concerning her only child, Heather Mack.

"Heather was violent again ... Smashed several items in my home, threw things at me and left," she wrote last March 28. "Heather is in grave danger ? and so am I."

Her words proved prophetic. Less than five months later, von Wiese-Mack's battered body was found stuffed inside a blood-smeared suitcase at a luxury Bali beachfront resort where she and her daughter were vacationing.

The teenager and her boyfriend, Tommy Schaefer, who arrived separately on the Indonesian island, are charged with premeditated murder.

In trial testimony last week, Schaefer admitted he inflicted the fatal blows in August, but he said the 62-year-old woman attacked him first after she learned her daughter was pregnant. He and Mack testified that she made a racial slur and threatened to harm their unborn baby.

But a Tribune review of emails, police reports and interviews suggests von Wiese-Mack knew about her daughter's pregnancy several days before they left for vacation.

Her friend, Elliott Jacobson, provided the Tribune more than 150 emails he said he received from von Wiese-Mack that chronicle her tumultuous relationship with her daughter. The correspondence also shows her efforts to help Mack, whom the mother months before her death named as sole beneficiary to a $1.56 million trust fund.

Von Wiese-Mack became a single parent in 2006 after her husband, jazz composer James Mack, died during a family vacation in Greece. Their daughter was 10. By age 14, police reports showed, officers began responding to her childhood home in Oak Park for disturbances involving truancy, running away, violence and thefts of cash, credit cards and jewelry.

The emails provided by Jacobson mainly focus on the final 17 months of von Wiese-Mack's life after she moved to Chicago in 2013 and the discord continued. Three emails reference the pregnancy. In her last emails, sent from Bali days before her death, she accused her daughter of erratic, violent behavior.

Mack and Schaefer may face a firing squad if found guilty, though the punishment is typically reserved in Indonesia for those convicted of the most serious drug offenses.

Schaefer, 21, of Oak Park, alleged in court that von Wiese-Mack strangled him for 20 or 30 seconds in her hotel room when, his vision blurred and about to black out, he grabbed the metal handle of a large bowl and "started swinging."

Mack, 19, who also testified, said she hid in the bathroom after the melee began and that the two tried afterward to revive her mother.

Jacobson told the Tribune about the emails months ago and said he provided them to the FBI in case they would ever be needed as evidence. The FBI declined to comment.

The more traumatic events described in the emails lined up with dates and details contained in various police and court records. Von Wiese-Mack's personal email address also matched what was included in some public records, and relatives and other friends verified receiving similar emails.

Jacobson said he agreed to share the emails with the Tribune last month to ensure that von Wiese-Mack's voice is heard. He said she fought for years to save her daughter and herself.

Von Wiese-Mack had hoped their Bali trip might mark a fresh start.

"The last (telephone) conversation I had with her was when she boarded the plane at O'Hare," said Jacobson, 72, a former Illinois political operative who now lives in Delaware. "She said I wish you were coming with us. I said, 'Next time I will. I promise

    I feel so desperate'

In the latest chapter of a case that has brought international intrigue, set in an exotic locale involving wealthy American tourists, Mack gave birth Tuesday to a 6-pound, 1-ounce girl.

Mack has a phone in confinement and has communicated for weeks with the Tribune through texts and video chats. Before she was admitted to the hospital for the baby's delivery, Mack said she planned to name her daughter Stella Schaefer.

Mack also vowed to keep the baby with her in custody and said it is Indonesian custom to keep mother and child together regardless of the harsh jail setting.
She maintains her innocence, but prosecutors allege that her mother's death was premeditated. They said she wrote to Schaefer in a text message before the Bali trip to find a hit man for $50,000. Mack also is accused of sitting on the suitcase to assist Schaefer with concealing the body ? an allegation she denied to the Tribune.

"Let it be known that I maintain my innocence and I had zero involvement with the death of my beloved mother," she texted last weekend.

Despite years of calling police for help, von Wiese-Mack declined to follow through with criminal charges, according to public records. She had no choice during two separate incidents in 2011 when police arrested her daughter after they documented injuries to the older woman that included a broken right arm, bite marks and bruises.

Mack was hospitalized for mental health issues three times that year, court records show. She was pregnant in early 2012 while receiving services at a residential facility but, according to the records, that pregnancy ultimately was aborted.

Mack successfully completed required anger management and other counseling services by summer 2013. But leading up to the August 2014 vacation, von Wiese-Mack described continued problems in a series of emails to Jacobson, including:

    Part 2. The emails

March 3: "Heather erupted in anger at about 2:30 and smashed a few items in my bedroom. She then threw my phone into the bedroom window and smashed it. Glass shattered ... Her anger escalates at an alarming rate and she seems to have no control over it — very scary. At least she didn't hit me — her rage went to the window instead."

March 15: "I think that there has to be something done with Heather because it is not possible for me to continue living like this. All of her lies, stealing and not knowing where she goes each and every day ... This has been 4 years now and I simply cannot do it any longer."

April 9: "Heather ran away again tonight. She will not answer her phone. She will not answer emails and she told me that she would kill me and then kill herself ... I feel so desperate."

April 13: "Once again, I am fraught with worry, again and again ... If only I could retain a moment of some semblence (sic) of peace ... Maybe I will be able to rest my eyes for a few seconds, at least."

May 2, as the mother researched a Boston psychiatric hospital, she wrote: "Heather was violent tonight and left ... When you live the way I have lived with Heather for so many years, the problems become almost your 'normal' way of life. I am really scared of what she may do next."

Then, after spending Mother's Day with Mack at her Lake Shore Drive condo, where she said the two enjoyed a pizza dinner, von Wiese-Mack again emailed Jacobson with more concerns.

"She is really a master at manipulation and lying and I need to be on guard ... I simply cannot afford to let my guard down for a moment with her," the mother wrote the next day. "She will stop at nothing to get at my money."

Mack was arrested in late July — several days before the Bali trip — after she was accused of hosting a party on her mother's dime at a Chicago hotel.

Von Wiese-Mack called police after her credit card's fraud detection officials alerted her to up to $4,000 in charges at the hotel. The mother later told Chicago police she did not want her daughter charged, according to the July 23 arrest record. In the lengthy report, Mack is listed as pregnant. Von Wiese-Mack first mentioned it to Jacobson in a July 30 email.

"I discovered that she is pregnant once again. So very sad," she wrote.

She raised the issue two more times in emails over the next 48 hours, including one in which von Wiese-Mack incorrectly stated that her daughter at the time was eight weeks pregnant.

Jacobson said he believes von Wiese-Mack had guessed at the timing, and she was urging her daughter to sign over her power of attorney for fear the then-18-year-old was in declining physical and mental health.

It was Jacobson who delivered von Wiese-Mack's eulogy last fall before a packed Chicago church, the same church where Heather Mack had been baptized nearly two decades earlier.

Jacobson said he met von Wiese-Mack in 1983 after he arrived in Chicago to work on Ohio Sen. John Glenn's ill-fated presidential campaign. Jacobson moved to Washington in 2001, he said, but the two remained close and she often sought his counsel.

Their written correspondence included lighter moments. They often conspired to help Mack gain acceptance into various Chicago acting and dance programs. Mack threw her mother a surprise birthday party last June, and photos included in an email show her blowing out the candles as her daughter smiled in the background.

But in documenting her troubles with her daughter, von Wiese-Mack entrusted Jacobson as a keeper of her most personal financial records, the emails showed. Their exchanges included flight confirmations, as well as her credit card statements and receipts of fraudulent billing.

Von Wiese-Mack also forwarded to Jacobson a few emails and texts she said she had received from her daughter, typically after the two had argued. Mack repeatedly sought her mother's forgiveness while describing herself with self-loathing and suggesting she'd harm herself, according to the correspondence.

Mack did not confirm or deny that she wrote the emails when the Tribune forwarded some of them to her, but she said the email account in which they were written belonged to her. The emails were sometimes written to "Mother Pie," and signed from "your sweetness pie," which Mack confirmed were the nicknames she and her mother had for each other.

Jacobson said von Wiese-Mack had an undying love for her daughter, and often blamed herself for Mack's troubles. One email the mother wrote to Mack was particularly poignant.

I want to hug you and protect you," she wrote Feb. 6, 2014. "I will never abandon you. I am crying so hard now. I am so scared for both of us. I want to help you. You are not a failure ... I did all the wrong things, but all that matters is how much I love you... Please Please come home. Or tell me where you are and I will come to pick you up. Please Heather. I am sick with worry. I just want you home. No matter what. I promise you on Daddy's grave."

Six months later, she again emailed Jacobson, this time from Bali.

Mack had disappeared from their hotel for several hours Aug. 6, her mother wrote. She feared for her daughter's safety and worried they'd miss planned excursions that afternoon and the next day that included white water rafting, a late-night safari and guided tours of the region's elephant park, scenic forests, temples and rice terraces.

"She has been violent on a few occasions because I locked up all valuables, including the passports and airline tickets, and will not tell her the pass code," von Wiese-Mack wrote, adding: "I worry every minute and just wish that I could enjoy this lovely vacation."

The last email Jacobson said he received came Aug. 8. She wrote that her daughter "ran off a few hours ago" again and could not be located. Von Wiese-Mack said she had checked out of their first hotel and was waiting for a driver to take them to their final destination at the St. Regis Bali resort.

"I am more frightened than ever," von Wiese-Mack wrote. "I will keep in touch."

As she had in previous emails, she ended it with: "Love, Sheila."

Her body was discovered four days later.

I don't think that the boyfriend killed her. I really do think it was Mack and he is covering for her.
Whatever is wrong mentally with Mack has been wrong with her since she was a child and can not be fixed, some sort of personality disorder. Its very sad, heartbreaking for her family and for her in a way too that she never had a chance.
All that money and they couldn't ever heal her.

More of a legal question, but with Mack facing life in prison or the death penalty, would baby Stella get the money? If she is legally adopted, could it still work that she would get the money when she reached adulthood?

Depends on how the will was worded.

I had a feeling Heather was a Sociopath. The emails just confirmed it.

The way I understand it- the estate was left to Heather. A court can not take away someone's estate that was willed to them. Heather's money is her money.
Heather will get to keep her baby until it reaches the age of 2. I think one of her/his relatives could fight to get the baby.

She was released from the hospital. All smiles for her.

Wrong. Many states have laws saying you can't inherit from someone you murdered. But I have no idea what happens in a case like this where the murder took place out of the country. And of course any insurance policies won't be paid out to the person who is convicted of the crime.

Seeing her all smiles like that makes me wanna run her over with my car.

"She is really a master at manipulation and lying and I need to be on guard ... I simply cannot afford to let my guard down for a moment with her," the mother wrote the next day. "She will stop at nothing to get at my money."
    That poor woman.
