Maybe? But how? I was thinking post each name in alphabetical order in the thread & then anyone can edit in photos or stories for that person, but then I realised only the original poster will have edit access - maybe a few of us could volunteer to take a group of names each & swap what we find for names outside our groups? Starry's already done a huge amount of work but it's still too much for one person ( in more ways than one).

ETA & I was thinking, if we can manage thousands of pages for JA, a page each or less for these guys shouldn't cause too much drama, or could it?

Maybe create a sub forum with their own threads? I'm relatively new and haven't made many threads so I'm probably the last person to ask. I created this one so if anyone needs me to do something just let me know how and I'll do it.

Fewer Bodies On Train Than Pro-Russian Rebels Claimed

    http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2014-0...s-said/5616404

The head of the Dutch forensic team in Ukraine says a train carrying the remains of MH17 victims contains significantly fewer bodies than claimed by pro-Russian rebels.

The separatists said there were 282 bodies on the train but only 200 have been found.

"We are sure of having 200 bodies and body parts, that is all that I know," said Jan Tuinder, the head of the Dutch delegation.

Meanwhile, US intelligence officials say evidence suggests MH17 was shot down by "mistake" by ill-trained pro-Russian separatists.

Evidence gathered so far suggests separatists launched the SA-11 surface-to-air missile that blew up the Malaysian airliner, but it remains unclear "who pulled the trigger" and why, said a senior intelligence official who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity.

"The most plausible explanation ... was that it was a mistake," and that the missile was fired by "an ill-trained crew" using a system that requires some skill and training, the official said.

Dutch team will need to return to crash site
Speaking after the train arrived in the city of Kharkiv, Mr Tuinder said his team would need to go back to the crash site to carry out another search for more bodies.

International monitors say the crash site is still being compromised by separatists near Donetsk, a stronghold of pro-Russian rebels, where fighting with Ukrainian troops flared again on Tuesday.

"There were human remains that had not been picked up," said Michael Bociurkiw, a spokesman for the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) observer mission after visiting the scene, amid reports of the wreckage being rearranged

Dutch Pay Respect to MH17 Victims As 40 Bodies Arrive In Holland

EINDHOVEN, Netherlands - The first 40 bodies of 200 Dutch people who were killed on Malaysia Flight 17 were greeted by a dignified reception at Eindhoven airport by the Dutch royal family and grieving relatives on Wednesday in stark contrast to the previous treatment of the victims bodies being left to rot in the summer heat for three days by pro-Russian separatists who stripped the victims of their possessions and blocked the forensic investigation.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands were seen on the airport tarmac holding hands and wiping aways tears as the bodies were removed from the transporter aircraft. A lone bugler played the traditional military farewell "Last Post" during the ceremony as the 40 bodies were brought home in simple wooden caskets from two military planes. Soldiers then walked the caskets to waiting hearses where they were seen giving one last final salute.

After the somber ceremony, a long line of 40 hearses carrying the souls were seen being escorted by police as hundreds of thousands lined the streets in Hilversum to pay their respects as the hearses made their way to a Dutch military base where forensic investigators will begin the painstaking and grim work to identify the 40 bodies with the help of grieving families.

As the Netherlands declared Wednesday to be an official day of mourning, windmills were seen placed at "mourning position" with the wings tilted to the right and flags were flown at half-staff. Dutch TV, radio, courts suspended all trials, and flights into Amsterdam's Schipol airport suspended to honor the victims and show their respect.

The Perth-based parents of MH17 victim Fatima Dyczynski (pictured) are flying to Europe and still hold hope their daughter could be alive. Miss Dyczynski, 25, a promising space engineer, was moving from Germany to start a new life in Perth when she boarded MH17. Despite authorities advising that there were no survivors of the crash, Angela Rudhart-Dyczynsk said she held hope her daughter might be alive because her mobile phone continued to ring after the plane was downed. George Dyczynski vowed he and his wife would 'go on our own' to the Ukrainian war zone where MH17 was shot down if it is discovered Miss Dyczynski's body is among the 100 feared missing.

    My hometown.

    Urgh..

At least the Dutch treated the victims of this hideous event with some dignity today. Which is more than I can say for the rest of the media this week . . . filing graphic stories about limbless corpses that have been sheered in half falling through village roofs and identifying them only by the name 'Body 26'.

    Too soon.

What the fuck is it with all those plane crashes, planes being shot down and whatnot? Now it's Mali!

An Air Algerie flight en route to Algiers from Burkina Faso with 116 people aboard — including 50 French citizens — crashed Thursday in northeastern Mali, the airlines said.

The airlines said on its Twitter account that the plane went down about 40 miles from the Malian city of Gao. It did not give any additional details.

"The plane disappeared at Gao (in Mali), (300 miles) from the Algerian border. Several nationalities are among the victims," Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal was cited as saying by Algerian radio, the French news agency AFP reports.

Ouagadougou Airport in Burkina Faso says on its Facebook page that the passengers on the flight included two European officials of French nationality stationed in Ouagadougou as well as Mariela Castro niece of Fidel Castro, former president of Cuba. Mariela Castro told Globovision that the report was erroneous.

Air navigation services lost track of AH0517 about 50 minutes after takeoff at 0155 GMT (9:55 p.m. ET Wednesday), the Algerian news agency APS reports.

An unidentified Algerian aviation official also told Reuters that the plane had crashed, but declined to provide details on where the plane was or what caused the accident. CBS News also quotes an unidentified Algerian officials as saying the plane had crashed.

The pilot reportedly contacted air traffic control in Niamey, Niger, to change course because of a storm, the BBC reports.

The French news agency AFP quotes an unidentified source with the airlines as saying the plane was "not far from the Algerian frontier when the crew was asked to make a detour because of poor visibility and to prevent the risk of collision with another aircraft on the Algiers-Bamako route."

The flight encountered thunderstorms with frequent lightning while flying across southern Mali, but, according to AccuWeather meteorologist Anthony Sagliani, the thunderstorms were not particularly violent.

"In general, there were scattered showers and thunderstorms across all of Burkina Faso and the southern half of Mali." Sagliani said. "This was with the monsoon trough which is typically found here in late July. So this activity was quite normal."

Recent crashes no cause for concern, experts say
United Nations troops in Mali say they understand the plane came down between Gao and Tessalit, the BBC's Alex Duval Smith in the Malian capital Bamako reports.

The French military sent two fighter jets based in the region to try to locate the missing plane, according to Reuters. France 24 TV quotes an official from Niger as saying the French have sent three military reconnaissance planes to help in the search.

Swiftair, the owner of the missing plane operated by Air Algerie, Algeria's national airline, says 110 passengers and six crew were aboard. The aircraft is an MD-83, according to Reuters.

The airline confirmed on Twitter that 50 of the passengers are French citizens. French Transport Minister Fr?d?ric Cuvillier says "likely many" French passengers were aboard the missing flight, France 24 TV reports. The six-person crew — including the two pilots — are Spanish, the Spanish newspaper El Pais reports.

Also among the passengers are 24 citizens of Burkina Faso, eight Lebanese, six Algerians, five Canadians, and four Germans, Air Algerie said.

Flight AH 5017 flies the Ouagadougou-Algiers route four times a week, AFP reported. It was supposed to land in the Algerian capital at 0510 GMT (1:10 a.m. ET Thursday), according to the Algerian newspaper The Daily Star.

However, a senior French official said it was unlikely that fighters in Mali had weaponry that could shoot down a plane, the Associated Press reports. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to speak for attribution, said the fighters have shoulder-fired weapons that could not hit an aircraft at cruising altitude.

Though crashes of commercial passenger planes have become rare, it's not unprecedented for them to occur within a short time period.

Two commercial passenger planes crashed within days of each other in December 2012. A Fokker 100 flying for Burma-based Air Bagan crash-landed in Burma, also known as Myanmar, on Dec. 25, killing one passenger and a person on the ground, according to The Aviation Herald.

On Dec. 29, a repositioning flight on a Tupelov Tu-204 flying for Russian carrier Red Wings Airlines overran a runway in Moscow. Five of the eight crewmembers were killed, according RT.com.

Passenger planes flying regularly scheduled airline flights crashed within the same week in 2011. A flight for Hewa Bora Airways, based in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, crashed in that country July 8. On July 11, a flight on Russian carrier Angara Airlines ditched in Russia's Ob River after an engine caught fire, The Aviation Herald reported. On July 16, a flight on Brazilian carrier Noar Linhas Aereas crashed after takeoff from Recife.

It's ok. It was just a bunch of French. It has already been confirmed that Fidel Castro's niece or whatever the fuck wasn't a passenger on this one.

Mali isn't the greatest spot to be flying over either . . . I'm quite sure this is a fairly common occurrence. This one apparently went down due to weather, although some facets of the media are trying their hardest to link it with some kind of conspiracy. As is tradition.

However, there is conflicting reports about this one. The French president said the plane has NOT been found and the military are being mobilised. Some other source said it was found in Niger. And a UN official says central Mali. Either way . . . it definitely bit the dust somewhere.

2014 has not been kind to the aviation industry.

    Anyway, back to MH17..

    Right.

I'm sure the media whipping up a frenzy over the desecration of the bodies while negotiations were going down in the immediate aftermath (in regards to international forensic teams entering what for all intents and purposes is most definitely a war zone) probably didn't give them any sense of encouragement.

Nor Tony Abbott (Australian PM) getting on TV and relaying the fact that it is highly likely that many of the Australian victims won't ever be identified and then eluded to the fact they had been obliterated into scraps of flesh. Which they basically were . . . but still.

More Bodies Found At Previously Undiscovered MH17 Site

PHOTO: A piece of wreckage from MH17 found at the crash site. (Reuters TV)

Investigators have found a previously undiscovered part of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 along with more bodies more than a week after the Boeing 777 was shot down over eastern Ukraine.

It is understood the location of the bodies has been marked with a white flag, but investigators do not have the facilities available to handle human remains.

The discovery has highlighted an urgent need for the area to be thoroughly searched, but continued fighting in the surrounding region has hampered the efforts of investigators.

A spokesman for the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Michael Bociurkiw says the piece of fuselage that was found "appeared out of nowhere".

VIDEO: Investigators look to MH17 cockpit for clues (ABC News)
"The most significant find today was we went into a heavily wooded area and found a huge piece of fuselage," Mr Bociurkiw said.

"I think this is the part of the plane that came down which ... travellers would say resembles an airline. The windows were still in tact and if one wanted to they could even climb inside and be covered.

"So that was again in a wooded area and it almost appeared out of nowhere because there were no tell-tale signs, no broken branches, nothing to indicate that a piece of fuselage had landed there."

Mr Bociurkiw said investigators were also closely examining the area of the crash site where the cockpit had landed.

"The other thing the investigators took an interest in was the cockpit area because there are still personal and professionals belongings of the crew in there," he said.

"There is also a lot of sensitivity around human remains ... and for the second day in a row we did come across more human remains, not much, but it does indicate that they are there and ... that a very detailed sweep of the entire area will probably be needed to make sure nothing is missed."

The discovery comes as Australian specialists joined teams in the Netherlands working on the identification of remains from the MH17 crash.

Three Australian officials, including a forensic specialist, have also visited the crash site for the first time, which is now officially the responsibility of Dutch investigators.

The head of the Dutch police mission in Ukraine, Jan Tuinder, said it remains difficult to get access to the crash site.

Pro-Russian rebels have continually caused problems during the investigation, blocking access to the site and harassing recovery workers.

"The process is not over. There are still remains [at the site] and it's very hard to get there because there are some, and I would say it's not politically correct, but there are still some lunatics there," Mr Tuinder said.

"It's very hard for us to get to the remains."

However, the OSCE said there had been no incidents overnight, as they were joined by experts from Australia and Malaysia.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott said yesterday 50 federal police officers are on standby to help secure the MH17 crash site.

The international aviation industry is frantically trying to decide if MH17 was a tragic one-off, or a game-changer that will lead to to a radical restructure*of air travel.

Dammit. I made a thread because this wasn't showing updates so I didn't check it. Grr. Won't make that mistake again either. Lol. Lately every time I post a new thread, I find the subject already posted in the one place I didn't look (which is why I hardly ever post threads these days).

Oh well. Maybe the irony of having French & a Ukrainian on this one will excuse my unnecessary thread-making activities.

I forgot to post this. Of all the social media stories to come out of the MH17 tragedy, this is possibly the grossest. My first reaction was ugggh, I hope it was a new unopened mascara - stealing used eye makeup is a huge conjunctivitis risk at the best of times & this mascara wasn't stolen under even remotely hygienic circumstances.

But even Russia aren't claiming this account was fake so hopefully, while this nasty little girl is waiting for her eyelids to unglue themselves, she has lots of time for contemplating the perils of using eye makeup (& it's accompanying bacteria) stolen from death scenes.

MH17: Ukrainian woman allegedly posts selfie using mascara looted from crash site

    Date: July 26 2014

A young woman in eastern Ukraine has provoked outrage by allegedly posting a picture of herself on Instagram using a mascara wand looted from the crash site of Flight MH17.

Yekaterina Parkhomenko uploaded a photograph on Instagram of her hand holding the Catrice cosmetic with the caption: ?Mascara from Amsterdam; to be precise, from the field. Well, you understand.?

Russian and Ukrainian media said it could not be ruled out that the post was a fake, but that it appeared to be authentic.

Asked by another user on Instagram where the mascara had come from, Ms Parkhomenko replied that she had got it ?from a looter acquaintance?.

The woman, who apparently lives in the village of Torez near the crash site and employed the username ?zolotosya?, defended her actions saying: ?I?m a separatist and after the recent events everything Ukrainian makes me feel sick and really infuriated.?

Other users reacted to the picture with emotions from humour to shock and disgust.

One, ?annahurma?, replied to the post saying: ?Good thing you?re not eating up the in-flight food ... or whatever else you could find there.? To which ?zolotosya? replied: ?Do you want me to send you some food too? And underwear? And faeces??

Ms Parkhomenko?s Instagram account was deleted today after a storm of criticism on the Internet.

Poor treatment of the dead and their possessions at the site caused international indignation after the Malaysia Airlines crash on July 17, killing 298 people.

Mark Rutte, the Dutch prime minister, said he was ?shocked at the pictures of utterly disrespectful behaviour at this tragic spot?. Ukraine government officials claimed that ?terrorist death hunters? were collecting victims? cash and jewellery, while a Telegraph correspondent saw empty wallets and open purses strewn on the ground.

The family of one British victim said yesterday that they had cancelled his credit card for security reasons.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...asting-it.html

Outrage has been expressed in Russia and Ukraine over a young woman who allegedly boasted on her social media site about using looted mascara from the Malaysian air crash site.

Identified as Ekaterina Parkhomenko from Torez, close to where the Boeing 777 hit the ground after being shot out of the sky, she posted a picture of a blue mascara bottle, say reports.

Her Instagram account then carried two selfies taken with an iPhone which were said to show her after she had applied the Catrice mascara

The caption read: 'Mascara from Amsterdam, or if to be precise from the field. Well, you understand.'

When she is asked by her own followers if she was joking - and how she got the mascara - she answered: 'An acquaintance of mine, a looter, gave it to me.'

The woman - her age is not known - describes herself as a "separatist who feels sick & hates everything Ukrainian".

Ekaterina minus her looted mascara. With the exception of this pic, most of her shots indicate an interest in modelling, unfortunately (or not) her face is now associated with a story no advertiser will want to be linked to. Oh well.

    So so sad.

DISTRAUGHT Australian relatives of Malaysia Airlines MH17 victims have been asked to provide intimate information about their smallest loved ones, at a time when their grief is most raw.
Because many of the victims on the doomed July 17 flight were children, police and health workers visiting relatives around the world have asked for treasured children?s finger paintings or other items that may contain prints such as baby bottles.
Footprints of the children, taken from the children?s rooms or bathrooms, may have also been taken.
If identification is still a problem in the coming weeks, officials may be forced to request neonatal blood samples that may have been preserved from birth.

There was a short piece on 60 minutes last week about the crash. They spoke to the daughters of one of the victims.
