Kathleen Harris, 15, Missing From Huskisson, NSW, Since 1999

Kathleen went missing 5 minutes drive from my kid's school. Whenever I've searched her case before, all I came up with was the Australian Federal Police official missing person's site - which had little more than name, d.o.b & date last seen.

Today I found much more. I think I mentioned no Australian town being immune from bikers & their shit, in another thread recently but I had no idea about their involvement in the only missing case on this part of the coast ...poor kid was only 15 for fucks sake, she'd only been in Australia for 4 years & she was living alone in a flat attached to the local Rebels clubhouse??

Ten year anniversary of teenage girl's disappearance - Huskisson

    2009-06-19 10:24:16

NSW Police continuing to investigate the disappearance of a teenage girl on the state's South Coast 10 years ago are renewing their appeal for public assistance.

Kathleen Harris was last seen at her home at Keppel Street, Huskisson, about 9pm on 31 May 1999.

At the time of her disappearance, the 15-year-old was in good spirits and had made arrangements to meet with friends the following day, but never showed up.

Police have genuine fears for her safety and have been told her disappearance is completely out of character. Investigators would like to speak to anyone who can provide them with information about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Kathleen has made no contact with family and friends in Australia and overseas in the past 10 years and there are grave concerns for her welfare.

Kathleen was born in Costa Rica. At the time of her disappearance she was 160-169cm tall, with a slim build, brown to blonde collar-length hair and an olive complexion.

She was last seen wearing brown corduroy jeans, a white long-sleeved top and pair of brown strap-up boots. All of her personal belongings and clothing were found at her unit by police.

Anyone with information about Kathleen's disappearance or with knowledge of her whereabouts is urged to contact Nowra Detectives on (02) 4421-9699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000

Police investigating the disappearance of a 15-year-old girl from her South Coast home 13 years ago have welcomed the announcement of a $100,000 reward by the NSW Government.

Kathleen Harris was last seen at her home by her friend Clinton Hanlon about 9pm in Huskisson on Sunday 31 May 1999, Mr Hanlon was a member of the Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang and Kathleen?s home adjoined the clubhouse.

She had planned to meet with friends the following day but never arrived. She was subsequently reported missing by her father and Mr Hanlon.

Police are treating her disappearance as suspicious and have not ruled out that Kathleen may have been murdered.

Detectives from the Shoalhaven Local Area Command continue to investigate Kathleen?s disappearance under Strike Force Jerrett and hope the reward may encourage someone to come forward.

?Kathleen?s disappearance was completely out of character,? Shoalhaven Local Area Commander, Superintendent Joe Cassar, said. ?Her personal belongings, including her purse and keys, were located in her home, and family and friends have not heard from her since she went missing.

?Kathleen had been in Australia since 1995 since moving here with her father from her native Costa Rica, but she had always kept in close contact with her relatives and friends back home. ?No-one has been able to shed any light on why she would disappear without a trace, and that?s why we believe she may have met with foul play.

?However, someone out there knows what happened to Kathleen and we do hope the incentive of a $100,000 reward may encourage them to come forward.

?By providing that information to police, they could help bring some closure to her family who just want to know the truth.?

Superintendent Cassar said a renewed appeal for information three years ago had led to the forensic examination of a vehicle.

?That certainly remains a line of inquiry, but what we really need to move forward in this case is further information from the public,? he said.

Kathleen was 160-170cm tall, with a slim build, brown to blonde collar-length hair and an olive complexion. She was last seen wearing brown corduroy jeans, a white long-sleeved top and a pair of brown strap-up boots.

Anyone with information about Kathleen?s disappearance is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information can be provided anonymously.

The reward of up to $100,000 is payable for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for Kathleen?s suspected murder.

An inquest has heard a New South Wales teenager, Kathleen Harris, who disappeared 14 years ago was in a relationship with a bikie who told people he slit her throat.

Coroner Derek Lee is investigating the disappearance of the 15-year-old who was last seen in her flat at Huskisson on the NSW south coast in May 1999.

The teenager's body has never been found and the inquest heard although she was ?mixed-up? it is unlikely she committed suicide.

Glebe Coroners Court heard allegations Kathleen Harris started having a sexual relationship with a married man, Clinton Hanlon, a member of the Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Club after she rented a unit near the Rebels clubhouse.

But the court was played a video of the television program Australia's Most Wanted in which Clinton Hanlon told the media the teenager was only his friend.

The inquest then heard he took a film crew into a bikie clubhouse to film the interview without the club's permission.

The court heard Clinton Hanlon had no alibi for the night the teenager went missing but that he has co-operated with the police investigation.

It heard there have been rumours around the small seaside town that Mr Hanlon supplied the teenager with drugs.

The court heard the teenager's disappearance was out of character and that she always left notes telling her father or Mr Hanlon where she was going.

But the Counsel Assisting said Ms Harris was "living a life of high risk" by having unprotected sex and using intravenous drugs.

Detective Sergeant Paul McCann, told the inquest community members have come forward with information about what Mr Hanlon told them he did to the teenager.

The Detective said one story was that Mr Hanlon slit Ms Harris' throat and dumped her body into the sea.

He said there were other rumours Mr Hanlon hit her over the head and buried her in bushland.

These witnesses came forward despite being fearful of Mr Hanlon and his bikie associates, the court heard.

The court also heard some of the teenagers possessions including handwritten notes and a coat were found during a search of Mr Hanlon's home.

Coroner Derek Lee told the teenager's family members in court: "I can't guarantee we'll answer all the questions you have."

    The inquest continues.

A TEENAGE girl missing from the NSW South Coast was in a sexual relationship with a bikie who later allegedly told an acquaintance he slit her throat and dumped her body at sea, an inquest has heard.

The 15-year-old girl, Kathleen Harris, disappeared from a small town near Jervis Bay in May 1999, Glebe Coroners Court heard on Monday.

Described as a "mixed-up young woman" who had dropped out of school, Kathleen rented a unit near the Rebel bikie gang's clubhouse.

The officer in charge of the investigation into her disappearance, Detective Sergeant Paul McCann, told the court he believed one of those bikies, Clinton Hanlon, had some involvement in her death.

Mr Hanlon, a married man who was allegedly in a sexual relationship with Kathleen, was one of the last people to see her on May 31 that year.

The court heard that members of the community came forward to police with different stories of what they said Mr Hanlon told them he did to the girl.

One version was that he brought her out on his boat, slit her throat and dumped her body in the sea.

The other version was that he hit her over the head with a motorbike helmet before burying her body in dense bushland.

These witnesses came forward despite being fearful of Mr Hanlon and his bikie associates, the court heard.

"It was common knowledge throughout the community that Mr Hanlon was in a relationship with this young girl, so why would anyone else step in and do harm to her?" Det Sgt McCann said.

The court heard some of Kathleen's personal items - including a dream catcher, some handwritten notes and a coat she was believed to be wearing the night she disappeared - were discovered in Mr Hanlon's home during a search in 2009.

"He put some of (these items) on display in his house. That to me is really odd," Det Sgt McCann said.

Mr Hanlon, who is in court for the inquest, has always cooperated with police and denies having anything to do with the girl's disappearance.

The inquest continues before Deputy State Coroner Derek Lee.

This partially explains why police keep specifying "former" club member

The inquest then heard he took a film crew into a bikie clubhouse to film the interview without the club's permission.

    Oh dear God.

Do they have proof she was mixed up with iv drugs of her own doing or by his nasty hand? This makes me ill. I have seen her pic before.

I bet she had 0 ounce of self esteem and did not know how pretty she was. I cannot see her willingly with him. JMO

I'm kind of nearby. Close enough to worry about the fact this dog is still socialising in Husky pubs & clubs.

I'm amazed at how many longterm locals don't even realise she's missing

Hmm. Just realised his pix gone now too
