The search continues for Jay Ott, the 31-year-old Bushwick fashion designer who has been missing since March 23rd. And though new surveillance video offers some evidence as to his whereabouts on the night he disappeared, friends say they're still desperately hunting for him in hospitals and rehab centers in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Police say that Ott, who has not been heard from since the night of March 22nd, was spotted on surveillance video several times in the early hours of March 23rd. According to the Find Jay Ott Facebook page, a camera caught the Pittsburgh native leaving his apartment at the McKibbin Lofts at about 4:35 a.m. and another camera outside of a bodega about a mile away spotted him walking towards Manhattan around 4:51 a.m.
And on Sunday, the NYPD found footage of Ott getting onto the Williamsburg bridge at around 5 a.m. on the morning of the 23rd. "We are continuing our search for more information by checking more surveillance footage from the Delancey Street area and physically visiting hospitals and rehab centers," Beatrice Kim, who works with Ott at fashion investment firm The Dock Group, told us.
Ott's father has flown in from Pittsburgh to help search for his son. "Jay's family and friends are extremely concerned and anxious to receive any word regarding Jay's health and safety," Ott's family said in a statement released through his employer. "His health and safety are our primary concern.
If he is seeking help and confidentiality is a concern, we understand, but we would love to hear that he is safe."
Ott is described as 6'2", 175 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair. Surveillance video shows him wearing a bright blue cap, a denim jacket, loose-fitting light-colored pants, and dark shoes. Anyone with information is urged to call Detective Thomas Pisano at the 90 Precinct Detective Squad, (718) 963-5368, or email
